Suspect that's someone over a barrel being given orders from above. He's been at the Merc for years and has done plenty of good, respectable journalism in that time.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

They aren't eating something 😱.

But what if they combined this with eating?

"I took a drive down Narborough Road and these are the food outlets I tried"

How much would you be willing to pay for local, online good-quality journalism/news?

No need to pay. There's more information on local news/events on Foxestalk & Bentleys Roof than the Mercury.

We need to find it first. It just doesn't exist. It seems to me that reporters and the press in general are just "chasing the dollar". Money over substance.

You only need to look at the guy who "tries x at x and here's my thoughts". Wasteful and simply clickbait. That sort of trash wouldn't make physical newspapers but it's cheap and easy to do online.

One of the most meaningless articles I've seen in the LM online was some bloke on a bike riding the new cycle lanes around Saffron lane/Aylestone Road and commentating on his ride. Utter bollox.

Newspapers and journalists as we knew them 20 - 30 years ago are finished.

Unfortunately we have a load of people fishing for votes!

Site advertising can be done sensibly and still return a profit. I do the bulk of my work for new media these days and earn a healthy wedge.

Ex-journos here run a weekly email and substack as an alternative to our excuse for a local paper. It’s free with an option to donate. Works well.

You could say these are all newsworthy articles to an extent..

Who is this bloke?

Surely not a legit journalist.

The force seemed to have had quite a few dismissals recently.

Think some employees take the force/industry for granted.

Wonder how much it's cost them in time and resource to conduct the bog roll investigation - should of asked her to replace them and sack her, simple.

Surely a warning would suffice here

Pretty sure stealing from any employer is an instant dismissal though, always has been wherever I’ve worked.
