If he is that good and a larger club is prepared to pay, then we will indeed lose him and we will sell.

We should embrace the culture rather than trying to fight it as well, it's realistically our only feasible way of disrupting the top 6 on a regular basis.

There's plenty of talent out there and we have the money and know-how to go out and keep finding these players before the big teams do/are willing to.

Agree entirely - although 'the money' is a moot point right now.

Ahh I meant in terms of resources that allow us to do the scouting/data anaylsis/etc. If there's a talented player knocking about in Peru, we should be able to track them down and scout them without worrying about the cost of the flight.

Yes I do think Faes is a better overall player.  On raw ability Wes wins, but as mention over all package Wout is better.  Leadership, and wanting to be here and no small child money grabbing attitude present, Like Fanana.  We get another 2-3 players with Faes ability and inter personal qualities , we will start flying again

He looks the dogs bollox and is 100% genuine. My hats off to the recruiting team in finding a gem under such pressure and scrutiny.

Fair play yeah. He's not had any help in finding his feet but seems to have instead galvanized those around him.

In the current market where defenders who can mix it, run and play football  are few and far between I think we've found a gem. I could easily see any of the current Top 4 offering north of £50m for him in the coming summer. Particularly if he ends up overseeing 10-15 clean sheets which seems on the cards at current run rate.

Faes is a proper old school defender and won't really venture forward that much. Where as Maguire and fofana would go past players and get up the pitch with the ball.

Even Cags does a bit of that also

Yeah this is exactly what I think he has become for us

Not sure whether it was intended he would be that kind of replacement but certainly seems to be how it has ended up

I am honestly expecting him to become captain in the next couple of years, can easily see why he was captain at his last club

.. he will either start the season as skipper or he has been sold on for a tidy sum!!!

Faes is great but Fofanna will be the best defender in the world IF he comes back from injury and carries on developing as he was with us.

It’s too early to compare the two anyway.

.. this seems like the type of player Southampton use to bring in over and over!!!

How they  managed to pick up players for a fraction of the price we were chasing other players for I was amazed.

We dumped Congerton and brought in someone who knows what he is doing and now additional staff to support the manager.

We need to stay within this setup and not hand over so much power, to one manager.

Did he develop that much in the two seasons he was with us?

Lil Wes has suffered quite a lot of injuries and bad ones too that will affect his development and potential. I’m hindsight maybe it was a blessing chelsea came along for him. the moment we are in right now Waes is a god send and exactly the player we need not lol wes.

....I think that is something that posters seem to have missed, In a few weeks more and we would have a £70m+ player in the treatment room wondering if his luck will ever change!!!

I was really happy when he went, we got lucky, we do have a tendency not to sell when our players are in the ascendency.

Yes.

I'd have been hard pushed to spot much of a difference between his last few games and his games a few months into his first season, but I probably don't have your eye.

What elements of his game would you say improved greatly in his time here (aside from his transfer value)?

Newcastle are preparing an £18m January bid. Their fans are convinced it's going to happen.

He's valued at £20 M, so you can safely double that.

Yep. Faes's mentality impresses me most. He's a grown up, whereas Wes is still a kid, relatively speaking.
