I work with a few Chelsea fans, just asked one of them their thoughts on Fofana….

”Shit mate, another Maguire, you keep having clubs pants down flogging your crap to them for silly money 😂

They’ve said a couple of times they don’t rate him that highly, in their group anyway, they are a hard bunch to please.

He’s only played about 5 games for them and then got injured! Although there were some on here slating Wout after about 2 games

Anyone feel Wout seems like the Jonny replacement, rather than a lucked out Fofana one? He is calm and also seems to instill calm in his defensive partners?

The same group of fans want to have Potter murdered all ready, so we think we’re dramatic!

I think so.  AND he looks up for it, and not like a spoilt 5 year old child.

He celebrates his own work (pumping fists when getting clearances), and others too.

LEADER.

Question is, is Big Dan going to be dropped for Evans?

Fofana is a player of great potential. If he reaches his ceiling he will be better than Faes and probably most other CBs in the Premier League. If he doesn’t - who cares - he’s a Chelsea player.

Chelsea essentially invested £75m in potential. He’s not anywhere near as proven as Maguire was when he went to Man Utd for £85m. Different is that we at Leicester all knew that all Maguire had ‘proven’ is that he wasn’t as good as Jonny Evans

Fofana was a little snake, but I think we may be thankful we got rid when we did. I am not sure he will ever hit his ceiling with his injury record.

.. I can understand his injury is going to hold him back, but Chelsea came in for him, it was a great opportunity to move to a big club, he pushed for it in the end and as you can see from circumstances a few days here and there and his career is in limbo. Take the opportunity when it presents itself,  I was happy that we sold him, probably got more than we anticipated as Chelsea needed a player urgently.

I agree with you. Faes does read the game much better. He’s more composed on the ball and he doesn’t get bullied off the ball. Positionally he is also brilliant. I’m not saying this because Fofana has gone, but watching Faes has made me realise that Fofana may have been slightly overrated by us.

Think this hits the nail on the head. Plenty saying they prefer Wout (myself included as he is a better fit for the team) and plenty saying Fofana world class etc etc. I do think he was over-rated in hindsight by most of us really. Not to say he isn’t a great player with potential but we were crap on defence with him and he had none of the leadership skills and ability to read the game that Faes has.

Does Fofana's injuries hinder him, as I'd say no before he got them but now I think it's closer than most think. It would have been a really good partnership if they could have played together, that is for sure!!

I wasn't at the time given what we'd be left with in the centre back positions being weak and not up to Premier League standard. Relegation written all over us if it stayed like that.

At this time it seems that we might've got very lucky by signing Faes. No amount of scouting ensures that a player will adapt to the Premier League but he's clearly been a major factor in the turnaround.

We need him to stay fit and injury free.

Newcastle are preparing an £18m January bid.

Well I sincerely hope they don't have the cheek to submit it. The stunned silence would be followed by laughter.

Yup. My thoughts exactly. Not that it was intended that way but certainly how it could transpire.

I even thought that if (IF) we could get a peak Cags back then we'd have a pretty decent CB pairing, with Wout at the helm. I know, I know, that ship has long since sailed.

Yeah this is exactly what I think he has become for us

Not sure whether it was intended he would be that kind of replacement but certainly seems to be how it has ended up

I am honestly expecting him to become captain in the next couple of years, can easily see why he was captain at his last club

Fofana has a very high chance of crashing and burning. That would have been the case even if he had stayed with us. Faes is highly likely to be a very consistent performer for a number of years. That is exactly what we needed - consistency.

As long as we stay in the top tier, and compete financially , we do not have to lose players like Wout. Fofana is a flash kid with talent but lacking maturity. I have seen dozens like him burn bright and fade out by their mid-twenties. We will sell players and that is fine , if like Tielemans and Maddison , we have had a number of years of good service out of them.

If he is that good and a larger club is prepared to pay, then we will indeed lose him and we will sell.
