I’m glad he’s not brought Alves on to this shower of shit. Would be insulting.

He's an idiot for signing that contract, especially after not getting a sniff in pre season.

He's the sort of player who we wont value whilst we have him but after a season or two in a lower/foreign league he would be too good to consider joining us, like Calvin Bassey or Matt O'Riley for Fulham.

I’m beginning to think Alves needs to leave to further his career. He’s learnt he can’t trust those at the club entrusted with his development. Made to feel very much part of the first team pre-season, quite possibly turning loan moves down as a result only to be effectively binned as soon as he signed his extension. The message to the academy is loud and clear. You can be as skilled and promising as you like, but we’ll start 30+ year old journeymen in front of you and develop other club’s talent ahead of you.
We need a new DoF as the academy and first team are like right and left hands on different bodies. Let’s not even go into how financially sensible it would be to develop our own from a selling perspective if ANY promise is shown via first team chances.

For me, this is another damning indictment of our former academy coach, former academy Director, current and incredibly weak DOF.

Cooper, under a real DOF committed to youth development, would be under no illusions; You are expected to show a route into the first team for our best academy prospects. Ie. Play some of them in the cup!

Bit concerning he can't even get 10 minutes against a League 2 team.

Can't be impressing in training very much.

To be fair, he could be Ronaldinho in training and Cooper would still play the old boys instead, nothing he has done has indicated he has any desire to give any youngsters a chance

It truly beggars belief this isn't the case.

It's infuriating! God knows how Alves feels about it.

You'd think he was Ronaldinho if you just read Foxestalk

Bollocks. He showed enough in the first cup game to at least get some minutes against Walsall.

I tell you what's galling. Aston Villa.

From 2014-2022 we were head and shoulders ahead of them and the rest of the midlands. Behind the scenes this will have given us an advantage in regard to our academy too but I know Villa spent a lot of time, effort and resources to improve their academy a few years back.

Anyway, fast forward to now and look at the respective teams and squads put out last night. Theirs is littered with academy players being given a chance, ours on the face of it might not look too shabby with Thomas and Choudhury starting and Iversen, Alves, McAteer and Golding on the bench but delve in to it and it feels a drop off under this regime compared to what we'd have seen under Rodgers or Enzo.

I won't even mention how they've replaced us as the best of the rest whilst we're eating out of bins inside 3 seasons but here we are.

It's galling that we didn't sack Rodgers and bring in Emery when we could have. What could have been eh?

except when you look back, the majority of posters on here said Emery wasn't good enough for us at the time.

Those are the same posters that backed Rodgers to the end and wouldnt have it that he wasnt the best manager outside the top 6. Anyone with sense looked at Emery's time with Sevilla and knew he was a good manager.

Well you have clearly won the argument posting that. EXPERIENCE trumps all. Thank **** you weren’t in charge of Man Utd when a 17 year old Giggs was showing promise.
