Pretty sure it has been said that Bassey left because at the time he was a left back but we wanted to develop him as a centre back and he didn’t want that so sodded off to Rangers

Correct. Tho in our defence, we were right. He's a unit and has made his name as a CB, not the LB he desired.

But the club wanted to develop him as a centre back?

It was him at the time who didn’t want to do it (and still ended up becoming one)

I see yeah in that case it made sense to let him go.

On Bassey if I remember rightly, the news coming out was HE wanted to be a left back and we told him he was a centre back. He went to rangers and became one. I doubt given his progress since that was his main reason for leaving. It was probably the fact we had far better cbs then we currently have the route was harder.

On Alves, yes, would love to have seen him but maybe he hasn’t done enough to be deputy to Bilal and Facundo and the plan going forward this season is to have them both or one and Ayew, BDR as second and third.

RVn comes here with a rep of giving people and young people a chance, I doubt if he is going to be a serious player this season, he wouldn’t have made todays squad, maybe a loan is required.

On Bassey.

Exactly. We wanted him to stay and to play as a CB, he got it in his head that he was a fullback, left us and changed to a CB.  We can't hold players against their will.  Even if might be in their best interests.

On Bassey I was told he was too far in the pecking.

If I remember correctly there was a lot of  calling for Braybrooke, which now seems to have been misplaced. Maybe it's the same with Alves.

Braybrookes out on loan isn’t he?

Pretty certain Alves was told he was part of first team plans at the end of last season and turned down loans at beginning is this season. No doubt told how important he was when offered the four year contract. What has happened since is diabolical from the club. Bought four players in that can play in his position. The lad has been shown that the club is two faced and can’t be trusted with his development. Other clubs are playing their talented teenagers. He deserves better. Pains me to say but I think he should leave Leicester at the first opportunity.

That was because we decided to leapfrog Luke Thomas over him. Bassey had been very good for the U21s as well as had Thomas but we got that one badly wrong.

We’ve done this a few times…… Thomas, McAteer accelerated from seemingly being not in the plans, and not really showing anything at youth level, and Alves who is genuinely a promising talent not given a chance? It doesn’t make sense, we needed to play him today……

Would be selected to play if he was good enough. No vendetta or oversight.

If he works hard in training and improves

hopefully he will be one for the future.

Up to now he's  just been good  in age group football.

It is not clear too me what conspiracy or mismanagement people think is going on here? Why should he have started? Who would he have replaced?  :dunno:
Facundo and Bilal are almost undroppable at present, Mav is having one of his scoring fits, so….

He is definitely better than Thomas and McAteer…… and he’s got more ability and talent than KDH, and Hamza yet they all play? It makes zero sense to me.

Not good enough yet,it's in the clubs interest to  play the best players.

These decisions are based on performance in training and practice matches. Not on age group matches.

It doesn't matter how hard we wish we can't make players better because this is what we'd like to happen. Let's hope he kicks on and makes it all the way.

He should have started because it's essential for his development and we have two massively more important league games this week that if we fail to pick up at least 4 points we're facing likely relegation.

Academy development should be one of the non negotiable principles of this club, without doing so over the last 5+ years we'd have been in an even bigger financial mess than we're in now. We've got such little squad value and whilst selling academy players is a sorry state of affairs to comply financially, it's one possibility we simply have to be alive to. But more importantly it's a source of players that should be at the epicentre of our club culture, what the fcuk is the point of our training ground if it isn't.

We have a DOF who's background is literally building a decent academy and yet seemingly does not command that we be the best we possibly can at academy development to first team.

I'm sick of it. There's not one single part of this season I can take any enjoyment out of. Maybe the odd flash of brilliance from El Khannouss who'll be off in the summer. It's boring. Don't think I've ever been more disillusioned with what I  want from my club.

Wish I could pack it in and care about something else, sadly I can't.

What’s to say playing one of the academy youngsters, if they did shine the same thing wouldn’t happen and they get sold for pure profit?

Couldn't give a monkeys chuff about what the score was today, my footballing principles do not rest on whether we win or lose a game.

If we're doing it properly that would be fine, it would be one of a group of academy players we bring through year on year and we reinvest etc.

My assumption is he's sorted a loan somewhere, only explanation other than illness/injury for not being in the squad today, as he trained and was in the media all week and was on the matchday poster today.

Definitely think we'll see a loan announced this week.
