I was walking down the street sounded like a bomb went off I was near narborough road any idea waht it was?

Sonic boom created by RAF Typhoons reportedly scrambled from Coningsby to intercept a Dash 8 aircraft that had lost communication and was heading towards London. It was escorted to Stanstead.

EDIT TO ADD: There was a similar thread on this forum a year or two ago after a similar incident involving a military jet.

Drove to Louth a few years ago and saw the Typhoons taking off coming into Tattershall, quite a sight.

You see the fighter jets quite regularly training/dogfighting over South Lincs, not sure if it is the typhoons but sometimes it's the americans from Lakenheath always makes me slightly nervous after they crashed one near Spalding a few years ago!

I thought a pigeon had fallen off the roof onto our extension, so I got that a bit wrong.

I'm sure we've mentioned this before, but does anyone on here over a certain age remember when the RAF could fly wherever they wanted, and you'd be in garden minding your own business and then there was a huge roar as a Harrier/Tornado/Jaguar or whatever appeared overhead out of nowhere, often flying pretty low. Proper loud, hands over your ears, make you drop your Cornetto loud. And then someone changed the rules and it just stopped.

I miss that, it was quite exciting

Yes, always a great sight.

Didn't hear or feel anything of today's boom in NW Leicestershire.
