Leeds sacked their director of football after a disastrous season which included a disastrous mid season appointment, before being relegated. Would like to see the same level of accountability here.

Eduardo Macia still hasnt done anything in football since he left us. Could he be a good replacement DoF or has he retired from that line of work?

He's been at Bordeaux and Calcio since leaving us in 2019.

Did he play a part in Bordeaux's relegation? Which team is Calcio?

Spezia Calcio, Italy, left in July. He left Bordeaux in the summer of 2020.

I would definitely take him back, that 2018 transfer window completely hoodwinked our fanbase into thinking we were a well run club with how good it was.

Everyone is complaining about him today. Can anyone tell me what he’s done wrong today? Don’t think people would be complaining if we had won and people certainly weren’t when we won the league under his leadership… don’t think he’s the issue in the executives

Are you joking?

When we won the league we had a proper leader in Vichai.

Since then it's been a steady decline with the DofF and Chief Exec not even talking to each other.

This clown us so far up Tops arse he is untouchable  and has created a core of poison at the club.

Who do you think is to blame for inept players getting paid ludicrous  amounts of money so we cant even sell them off.

Most DofF would have been sacked years ago

I think Whelan is much more to blame than him but he’s the scapegoat. Proven by the fact that we sing about him every time we are behind. Not saying he’s the most likeable bloke just saying that no one actually knows why people dislike him. They just use him as a scapegoat because other people do

Okay Mrs Rudkin👍🏾

Would be a shame if people started turning up outside his wouldn't it?

We don’t have it in us sadly (at least not in the numbers to have an impact)

He was at Kasabian and is regularly out and about in the county and nobody has  said a thing to him

He's Director of Football.  He has overall responsibility for the football side of the club. The quality of the squad is ultimately his remit.  He should have been sacked when we were relegated as that was a failure that was on his desk so to speak.  I've no idea in regards to his likeability or not and frankly don't see that as relevant. He's either good at his job or not and right now I'd say the coin doesn't come down in his favour.

Whelan has other questions to answer but she's not as directly responsible for the playing side.

Having listened to some DoFs talk before, they are much less involved in the actual football than you might think, much more so appointing the right people. His biggest recent failure in that sense is Steve cooper…

How is he a scapegoat? We have a squad on vastly inflated wages that in transfer terms is worth sod all. He is failing miserably not only in squad development but also in results. The director of football is the person charged with giving the manager the tools he needs to build a winning team. He is failing, so not the scapegoat.

I just can't, I've not got the energy.

If you aren't able to see it by now you don't deserve people to explain it to you, Jon.

Hard disagree.

I think Whelan would be the first to admit she knows little about football. She's the business woman who procures the budgets, handles the balance sheets and determines what the transfer and playing budgets are. It's up to Rudkin and the recruitment team to spend it wisely.

They have failed miserably in that area. If I gave you £100m to spend sensibly, it would not be my fault if you spent it all on cocaine and hookers. Just as I wouldn't expect to take the credit if you'd somehow time travelled to 2005 and invested in Netflix and Amazon.

Now it is clear that we have been financially mishandled because she and Top have thrown good money after bad, but I would argue they wouldn't have needed to if Rudkin had been buying players like Lookman instead of Danny Ward for £12m.

I don't doubt that that is true. However, if he does not have overall responsibility for football matters within the club what is the point of him or indeed of the position. Senior management in any business is less hands on than we would think but they still need to be accountable.

Half of my point is what you’ve said there that he isn’t as hands on as we think.

The other half is sort of what you’ve said which is that he does need to be accountable BUT it’s the whole ownership imo.

maybe I’m missing something but I seriously don’t see why he gets all the blame over the others.

Whelan rarely does anything to do with the football side of things. This was confirmed by Sam Wallace recently in the Telegraph. And another journalist said similar on the big strong Leicester pod.

If you want moan about ticket prices etc, yeah Whelan’s your target but Rudkin runs the football business
