Mate, I think you mean he's a tactical mastermind who coverts every point and frame like his life depends on it.

He doesn't give his opponent an inch and grinds them down until they submit.

And in addition to all that, he's a brilliant potter and break builder when he gets the chance.

I know he's not flamboyant like some but he's far from boring IMHO.

Indeed, Selby is proof Snooker is both a science and an art.

I wonder how many on here who are Selby fans would still be if he was from Nottingham.

:ph34r:

Would I support Leicester if they were from Nottingham? Probably not.

You’d have thought Virgo was a multiple world champion the way he goes on. In reality he’s best known as Jim Davidson’s gimp.

Only thing boring about this match is Hendry droning on about how boring he thinks it is.

It’s a shame because I like Hendry as a rule but he’s getting on my tits a bit now.

His YT channel is superb but I’m starting to think he’s got it in for Selby for some reason.
Maybe he feels threatened that he’ll overtake his number of world titles.

Someone described it to me as the "wrong way to play snooker". There is no wrong way. He's one of the sports most successful players, who are we to tell him it's wrong. Just because some might not like it doesn't make it the wrong way to play it. Then they brought up players like Trump, Bingham, Brecal being more attacking. Well yeah and Selby is in a different league to them so not really a great comparison lol

I agree with all of the above, but not the best to watch on occasion. Still would like to see him in the final though.

As a person he comes across as a really decent bloke, seen him around a fair bit and my uncle used to play in the same pool league as him, he took him to the crucible to watch him play.

Just like Leicester winning the title with 38% possession was the wrong way to win the league according to some.
I can only put it down to jealousy and envy.

It’s the same with football though isn’t it, the more cautious managers get pelters for not playing ‘the right way’. But you wouldn’t chose to watch a Mourinho team over a Pep team if you wanted to be entertained.

This is it, many other players on tour and players who have TV time the same amount of time as Selby (but don't have 770 centuries) and yet Hendry seems to double down on him every time he gets the chance

Mark Williams for example who really is a brilliant watch at times and one of Hendrys best mates, but is about 200 career centuries behind Selby

I don't see it as a like for like though, because part of snooker is the tactical battle that makes it so compelling to watch.

I just think how boring snooker would be if every player in every frame were making massive breaks, let's be honest once a break hits 70+ points the frame is over and the rest is just a formality to see if they hit a ton which even then I'm very meh.

Why are we being told/taught that tactical, safety play frames are a bad thing? They are brilliant.

As mentioned above there is no right or wrong way to play the game....you play to win

Cant understand why people hate on Selby and this type of Snooker.

Its abit like the great Benn V Eubank debate(The dads NOT the young pretenders!).

Benn = Ronnie.

Eubank = Selby.

Both great, just different styles.

Also, as great as attacking play is, it's not always the best tactic. I've enjoyed watching Si, but maybe if he was a bit more Selby like this afternoon he'd be in the final tomorrow. Selby blends both the tactical battling side and the heavy break building side perfectly.

How many great players are sat there with 1 or 0 world titles (Trump, Ding, Robertson, Murphy, Allen)? Selby has 4 because he can play the game in a way they can’t.

I mean if snooker was just about attacking play then Jimmy White would have 10 world titles.

It's called Snooker for a reason.
