The facility fee stuff and coverage, is not just down to predicted viewing figures, its really likely that there is an agreement with Sky that favoured coverage is given to certain clubs, not just to funnel more of the money to them but also to maintain their favoured exposure which in turn maintains their fan base.

In terms of the 3pm blackout, its just antiquated at this point.  The championship TV deal seems ridiculously under valued and the production efforts from sky are a joke, the LCFC media team is a huge step up from what sky does.  The relation sky has now is too cosy, if I remember right both the most recent EPL and EFL deals were not even put out to tender, it was just a flat renewal.

I am curious of the sales figures for foxeshub, as it seems quite popular overseas, wonder what its income is like vs what our share of the EFL tv deal would be (believe we get none from that currently due to parachute payments).

Wasnt the EFL temporarily removing the 3pm blackout because of covid but only recently reimplemented it?

This is what makes it illegal (in my opinion); the arrangement between Sky and said clubs is the dictionary definition of a cartel, which is illegal under the Competition Act 1998. If we had a fan group that was organised, dedicated and had the means, and if we had a functioning government that wasn't committed to maintaining the corrupt status quo of everything, then I think it could be challenged in court. That's not a dig on @Foxes_Trust, this would be a mammoth task and would need to include as many fan groups as possible. But nobody else seems to be aware of how bad the corruption is, or they don't care because they don't think it affects them as consumers or their club (they're wrong).

I had the frankly absurd situation on Saturday where the illegal stream I was watching was taken from ****ing FOXESHUB. MY football club, who I've followed for nearly 30 years, whose stadium is 8 miles away from me and world class training ground is about 2 villages away from where I am right now, was broadcasting their Saturday 3pm match online and the ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD where there was no legal right or means to watch it was the British ****ing Isles.

I'm not sure about the EFL but the Premier League allowed all games that weren't on their traditional platforms to be broadcast on free to air tv during COVID. They also showed Man City vs Leeds on a Saturday at 3pm last season but I can't remember the context.

It should have moved to a streaming platform a decade ago, where fans would pay much less for much more access. But the status quo is lucrative and we have absolutely no accountability in this country.

This actually ties in to a broader problem, one that you're seeing right now with the WGA and SAG in the states... Streaming platforms aren't under any obligation to release viewing figures. (sidenote, re WGA/SAG - when shows were rerun on traditional TV actors/writers would get 'residuals'; a payment for their work being broadcast or bought as a VHS/DVD. Since we all moved to streaming platforms those residuals have dried up, mainly because streamers don't release viewing figures so actors/writers don't know how often their work is being viewed)

LCFCTV did at some point, and Twitter, YouTube and Facebook/Instagram post live views on streams. But if the law were to change in the UK that such a streaming platform like a proposed PL/EFL service, and your Netflixes & Amazon Primes HAD to announce viewing figures, football clubs and fans would be getting a much fairer deal.

Fan groups like @Union FS (though I understand this isn't really their type of thing) and @Foxes_Trust; hell, even individual fans - need to write to the Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Lucy Powell and explain just why this situation is so toxic. She needs to be pressured into committing to changing the status quo and stamping out corruption and cheating in the game.

The only problem with that, as I said in my loooooooooong post the other week, she's a Man City fan.

This isn't the right thread for it by any means, but it is ridiculous and will constantly maintain it's ridiculous for someone eight miles away to not legally be able to watch a game someone 5000 miles away can, just because you might decide to go and watch Coalville Town (etc.) instead.

The fact hundreds of thousands of people cannot access games just on the prediction that no-one will go to other Saturday 3pm games is just ridiculous for me and leagues shouldn't get so preachy about illegal streaming if they're going to block legal means of access. They don't even cater any sort of "sold out" scenario, where Leicester v Leeds could be available as a stream if both teams sell the stadium out completely.

Yeah, hard for me to imagine or understand why local fans can’t watch local games - if it’s sold out, it should be available (like the NFL does).

If it’s out of market, it should be available.

It absolutely belongs in this thread. There is absolutely no excuse for it. People have been jailed for decades because they made the Premier League's product accessible to people who wanted to access it, because the Premier League wouldn't allow them to access it.

I mean this exact scenario was literally a ****ing skit in The 40 Year Old Virgin 20 ****ing years ago:

I can't comprehend how a stadium cost £760 million to build. What are they using? gold and diamonds everywhere?

Dallas Cowboys Stadium (AT&T Stadium) ended up costing 1.15billion - and it is one of the best stadiums in this country

The most expensive stadium ever built, cost a total of 5.5billion - SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California

Because the current government are doing such a good job that the thought of their removal is armageddon.

It’s nuts that people still tell themselves they vote Tory because they’re competent.

This is the worst government in UK history. Maybe the worst in western democratic history.

It is, without question, the worst government since the introduction of universal suffrage.

Back to footy .It seems reasonable that the prem teams(as a group) would sell their TV rights to all manner of buyers as do other sports.'I can understand why they would dictate the times of Broadcasting and the clubs would be afraid of lower attendance revenue ( not that it matters much in overall income)

The worst two governments in my life were Thatcher's and Cameron's absolutely huge damage to the country that wil last decades (brexit and social housing the two biggest ones).

But too many of those who think even a right wing stealth tory Keir would be too much for them to cope with lol.

Absolutely clueless stuff.

Largely getting their views from middle-class professional protesters, who prefer shouting from the sidelines to actual political analysis and campaigning, because they'll be protected by their inherent privilege. That and absolute mouthbreathers who need TikTok and memes to tell them what to think.

****ing doyles.

Man City fan Lucy Powell replaced from Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport role by Thangnam Debbonaire, a Bristol Rovers fan. Much better opportunity for the fans to pressure her into breaking apart the status quo via the TV deal. She also has been against things like the Super League:

https://www.debbonaire.co.uk/blog/2021/04/20/my-reaction-to-the-european-super-league/

Fan groups like @Foxes_Trust ought to be writing to her explaining why the TV deal breaks competition law and how it keeps the corrupt status quo.

Only an outsider’s guess: but I think illegal streaming will be what ends your 3 pm blackout, likely sooner than later.  Legal broadcast unavailability has already normalized illegal streaming for millions of law-abiding people.

Stealing content doesn’t feel like stealing if you have absolutely no other way to watch half or more of the matches.  It feels like a necessity you’ve been driven to (not even considering the current state of folks’ budgets).

You might not prefer to watch a stuttering stream set up by third-world organized crime which viruses your device while advertising petty vices.  You might prefer to pay a reasonable fee to watch the match safely and legally.  But you don’t have that option.

Those who own the content worth billions, must see by now that they are fast running out of time to fix this problem.  Any perceived issue in the EFL or lower leagues will not get in their way of doing so
