OH Leuven Thread 23/24

The Belgian League wouldn't be the Belgian League if we didn't change the whole bloody format from time to time:

The first division will now contain 16 instead of 18 teams. RFC Seraing, Zulte Waregem and KV Oostende have dropped down to the second division. RWDM got promoted by winning the 2nd division last season.

The regular season consists of 30 matchdays. After the regular season we still have the play-offs.

Champions Play-offs:

The teams that finish the regular season in 1st, 2nd, 3th, 4th, 5th and 6th place will compete in the playoffs for the league title and European tickets (10 matchdays). The points after the regular season will be divided by 2.

1st place wins the league and qualifies for Europe
2nd place qualifies for Europe

3th place qualifies for Europe

4th place will face the winner of the Europe Play-offs for the last remaining ticket for Europe

5th place /

6th place /

Europe Play-offs:

The teams that finish the regular season in 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12 place will compete in the Europa Play-offs (10 matchdays) for a spot in the "final" against the 4th placed team of the Champions Play-offs. The points of the regular season are also divided by 2.

1st place will face 4th placed team of the Champions Play-offs in 1 game for the last remaining ticket for Europe.

2nd place /

3th place /

4th place /

5the place /

6th place /

Relegation Play-offs:

The teams that finish the regular season in 13th, 14th, 15th and 16 place will compete in the relegation Play-offs to fight off relegation (6 matchdays). The teams will keep their total point the gained during the regular season (so not divided by 2).

1st place stays in the 1st division

2nd place will face 3th placed team of the 2nd division in 2 games. The winner gets to stay up/wins promotion to the 1st division, while the loser drops down/stays in the 2nd division.

3th place automatically drops down to the 2nd division

4th place automatically drops down to the 2nd division

That sounds absolutely crazy. And I love it.

What’s happening with Opoku? Anyone know?

Pre Season for OH Leuven started today and Opoku is still on vacation. So could be coming to us 🤷🏼‍♂️

Louis Patris is most likely on his way out. Multiple clubs are showing interest. Anderlecht have put in an offer but we declined.

We're asking 5 million euros for Patris

It would be quite silly if Leicester didn't try to sign him this summer. Though Anderlecht are probably a better prospect than us now this season.

Any news of any other incomings?

What can I help you with?

(yes, I make this joke every year ...  because the boffins running the Belgian League do this every year)

12-1 win in the first pre season game

...Holzhauser back in the fold!!!

You missed him last season,  him and his antics were just what you needed when leading and he could conjure up good scoring situations.

When he plays it is as if he has an aura about him and the team follows his lead. Has the ability to play up situations on the pitch, to slow the game and the opposition down.

I disagree.

99% of the time he's on the pitch Holzhauser is a liability. He's slow, doesn't defend, isn't technically gifted,... The only thing he's good at is kicking corners and giving a through ball from time to time. We played some horrible games last season, but I never thought "if only we had Holzhauser to save us now". We send him out on loan to TSV 1860 München in the German 3th division, but even there he barely played.

It seems we're looking to get rid of him
