If another club was prepared to pay him 30k/week then we’d could have cancelled his contract and paid him what we owed him less 600k. So we’d save ourselves 600k, the player wouldn’t be out of pocket and we’d have a bad egg out of the door.  Clearly that wasn’t achievable or we decided we needed him.

That would be lovely but There was no club willing to pay 30k a week

But, like I said, all of this is not taking into account his wages.

If the rumours of 80k/week are true, he stands to earn 1.6m by the end of his deal.

Conveniently, his book value also stood at around 1.6m in January.

"selling" him for nothing, and freeing up his wage, should have had zero impact on the books.

🤦‍♂️ PSR class that as a loss probably 1.6m and we’re rumoured to possibly fail again so it’s a no go

Don’t know where you got your definition of man management from. Tbh it reads as if you’ve defined it to suit the narrative that you don’t want Winks to play. I just look at Winks and think that yes he’s definitely not going to be here next season and I’ve not been impressed by his behaviour, but whilst he’s here and with the undoubted ability he has, King might have a chance as to motivate him to perform positively for the team as Enzo did. I’ve been positive about Aribo’s performance from a creative perspective btw. Didn’t see any significant breaking of the lines by Skipp. I get that Skipp runs around, I just don’t see the defensive skills that make up for his lack of creative ability on the ball.

Made something to fit my narrative? What I'm saying is that Winks does not want to be here and is 100% off at the end of the season. He's fallen out with multiple managers and been dug out for unprofessional behaviour by them. You think he's going to perform in those circumstances? The point of man-management is motivating others to get the best out of them but you cannot make somebody do what they do not want to do. Nobody is going to be able to light a fire in Winks when they have neither the carrot nor the stick to use. The only person who can control his attitude at this point is Harry Winks.

Winks based on his ability should be amazing in this league. Winks based on how he is currently, is absolutely shite. If you don't see that, it's on you and ironically, you're trying to force a narrative, not me.

I think this is the mistake you're making. His ability is very much doubted..

Remind us all of his goal and goal assist record ...

His runner for the winning goal.

He's up there with Ayew as my two most hated.

Why was he deeper than Nelson though? Why was Nelson so high compared to Lascelles?

How was Neil Lennon’s record ?  Marty james?  Wilf when he played there ? Hamza?
not a fair metric for his position

Presumably they worked a pattern to drag us around and make the space for the run.  sort of thing that good coaches spend their time during the week doing.

King has said Winks’ attitude has been good since he’s been in charge. That’s not a lie, a narrative that I’ve made up, that’s coming from a honest guy and a Leicester legend in Andy King. You can get a player who is leaving at the end of a season to perform. You can manage difficult personalities even if others have failed. I didn’t see a pathetic performance from Winks yesterday. I saw a team being outplayed before and after we went down to 10 men and that wasn’t down to 1 man who only played when we were a man down in a lob sided formation.

I should point out that I’m more than happy for Winks to go at the end of the season. I would’ve liked him to go in January and we’d replaced him with a cheaper, lower maintenance creative pivot or 6. The thing is that didn’t happen. I just think playing our better players in their best positions is what we should strive to do and that includes having a 6 or a pivot that can retain possession, play in tight areas and have ability on the ball.

The players you cite are all pretty much one trick ponies (James the exception). They are to a greater or lesser degree excellent tacklers  and blockers. They are in the team to perform that role to a high degree of excellence and other players were brought in to complement them. Winning the ball back from the opposition is a vital skill in any team and Lennon and NDidi  are/were top class at it.
What Winks does is not vital. Integral to a particular style of play maybe, but not in any way match-winning on a regular basis. Easily combatted, last season surely proved that you need more in centre mid.

Think of what he doesn't have: a killer pass; a killer shot; a knack for arriving late in the box; a killer tackle; a box-to-box engine.

Given all that, I think people who see HW as an EPL class centre midfielder, are simply kidding themselves...

I was referencing goals and assists

Winks is a tempo cdm but he has problems defensively which means he can’t be a single pivot unless a team is going to hold 65%+ possession

Well then I think we can agree. Aperol 'Arry is not brilliant at anything vital but reasonably competent at a less important skillset and needs the team to be set up with perfectly complementary players to be anything like his best...

Great first half, credit to him, but apart from 1 lung busting recovery run second half, he went missing again. So frustrating.

When on top was class, when we needed a leader he went all spursy!

Little shit, did anyone see when he passed the ball straight out and then had a right go at Mukasa for not getting it? An 18 year old kid.

The bloke is poison. Yet we pander around him as fans and the club. We should publicly shame him, a manager with b*ll*cks would say. Yes he is the highest earner in the squad and his attitude is disgusting. Unless his attitude changes he will not be playing for the club.

He had a couple of nice passes and little breaks but otherwise he was cack. He's so half arsed into challenges and our game completely dropped off when Page went off
