HOW THE **** DID MATTY JAMES GET 8????!!!!

Higher if anything! Without him it's very unlikely we would have gone up from the Championship. And when we were shit in the PL he was regularly one of our best performers so it's not unrealistic he'd have slotted in the title winners team.

We wouldn’t have won the league (Prem) with him starting every week like Drinkwater, because him and Kante complemented each other, however, I agree with him possibly reaching a 9. Certainly not below the 8.

Matty James was a good signing and he’d probably get an eight for being one of the players who lifted us out of the Championship after a long absence. A solid player at that level and the sort of player we’d be happy with now we’re back in it.

He does, however, remain one of the most overrated players by some of our fan base at PL level. It seems to stem from the fact that he was picked ahead of Drinkwater quite a few times in 14/15 when the team was getting battered every week.

We won 11 games that season - 7 in the run in. I’m guessing James started in less than half of those 11 (although I’ve not checked). He certainly never showed any indication he could get to the levels Drinkwater reached in 15/16.

But yes. Good standard Championship player, which is what we needed when he signed. So I wouldn’t argue with an 8.

Not gonna mention all of them but some things being discussed already.

Matty James as an 8 is more than fair given his time injured as well.

As noted already, all PL title winners should be a 10.

Gray and Amartey 5 & 6.

Ward, Bennett, Silva can’t be anything more than a 1.

Slimani can be a 5 for me just for a good contribution towards CL. Though it went terribly other than that and he seemed to be an asshole.

I’m not convinced Tielemans as a full signing is a 9. Maybe he gets a bonus for FA Cup goal alone. I’m still annoyed with that bloke and how shit he was for two years. Also if his loan spell was worth a 9 Nathan Dyer is definitely a 10. What a lad.

It's funny reading through them all like that. There are a couple of points where you think, god damn, what a window! Even if they didn't succeed for us, there are several windows where we signed multiple world class players.

Then you get to the window after we won the league and think, god damn, someone should have been tried in the Hague for that...

My memory is King actually started a lot of those games in the great escape run in over both James and Drinkwater and played really well but I may be wrong

Didn't James get injured against Southampton.

King played really well, important goals against West Ham and Swansea (I think)

Yes we would have. James was good, solid, for us but his reputation has increased massively over the years that what it was when he was actually here.

I don't think a midfield duo of Drinky and King or Drinky and Hammond gets us up. MJ was our best midfielder that year, obviously DD came into his own in the Premier League.

That’s definitely a retroactive opinion . James missed about 1/3rd of the season in the Championship winning season through injury and our results or performances didn’t suffer when King filled in for him. Drinkwater was universally regarded as the much better than the 2 and the best midfielder in the Championship in our Championship winning season. Most Leicester fans were stunned Drinkwater didn’t win Championship player of the season at the time.

Not saying James was crap, he was a good player, but he categorically wasn’t as good as Drinkwater.
