Nah. Disagree. Celebrating winning League One and the Championship (x2) should be celebrated as a marker of where we came from, especially as it’s within just the last 15 years. If it was in the 90s then I’d agree with you. But the last 15 years have been so insane it’s impertinent, IMO, to celebrate overcoming our lowest moments.

Agree, but it's not a trophy.

So there's around 70 teams in the football league that should basically just pack it all up and not bother.

And Leicester City pre-2016 is just totally irrelevant.

Right.

Whats a trophy then?

In England, the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield. That's what people refer to when they talk about a club not winning a trophy in however many years. When we won the LC in 97 it was our first trophy for about 30 years.

If winning the League One trophy makes them happy then whatever. I'm just saying we don't need to include the Champ and League 1 when we e.g. discuss Vardy's "trophies" at Leicester. They are promotions, which is great, but I don't really see it as more than that.

Right.

What?!

We won trophies before 2016.

And I'm not saying trophy-less clubs are "irrelevant" at all.

we've moved beyond needing to justify league one as a 'trophy'. That shit is for the likes of Reading and Coventry.

I on the other hand am still pissed off that we bottled it against Rotherham for our one and only shot at the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

You and I are not alike.

We don't need to count league one as a trophy. I know we get a crappy little cup for it which I'm sure makes a lot of people happy but can we not please list it when describing what we've won vs Spurs.

Ok I would've liked that one too tbh

I agree with you @bovril – some of our lot were laughing at Harry Kane going trophyless at Bayern this season because "ahahaha we wont a trophy and Kane still hasn't !!!!" completely stripping away the context of where we find ourselves and the relative standards each has been playing at. Plenty saying Maddison "missed out" on a trophy too, whilst Winks has gone and won one.

The Spurs patter is repetitive and tiresome at best and mind-numbingly boring at worst.

Fast forward to the summer:

"I think we should use the friendly against Wisbech Town to try out some of the youngsters"

"Wow you're really disrespecting the Elgood's Cup. Kane would bite your hand off for a medal. You must just be a post-2016 Leicester fan"

You kind of are though.

A club can only do what it can do within its level.

If a club is a perpetual Championship/League 1 team, but keeps winning league titles in both divisions, should they not celebrate those achievements and trophies?

You're basically saying 'only the PL, FA Cup and League cup count'. Which, by definition says all the other clubs that don't or can't compete for those trophies, have nothing to play for.

It's a nonsense.

With your logic we've only ever won 5 proper trophies. On the same measure Spurs are way out in front on 15.

This is like some twisted ultimate version of celebration police

We've won 7 if you count the Shield - 1x league, 1x fa cup, 3x league cup and 2x charity shield. And yes Spurs have clearly won way more than us, let's not be silly.

You're totally straw-manning. Of course we or any other club should celebrate achievements such as promotions. But when people talk about "trophies" won by a club it is quite obvious what they mean. It doesn't include winning a lower league. If you insist, we can call them major trophies. But when people compare what Vardy and Kane have won and include the Championship, I cringe. It is unnecessary, and misleading.

Don't really understand how you've interpreted that argument as "lower league clubs have nothing to play for" but you also seemed not to know we had won trophies before 2016.

Is the Football Association Challenge Trophy a trophy?

Surely we know what the major trophies are. Bit like the majors and grand slams in golf and tennis. The other honours are very welcome of course but the majors in our domestic football are those when you are competing in the top division or in cups when the top division is included.

I take it Kane never played in the Championship?

Yeah but we shouldn't have been in League One or the Championship so we shouldn't have been celebrating those trophies.

I doubt Harry Kane loses much sleep over not having a league one winners medal to be fair.
I do rate the previous lower division league wins higher than the charity shield though. Coming out on top after a 46 game league season as opposed to winning a glorified pre-season friendly is a bigger achievement in my book.

The post I was responding to was "we've won etc etc etc and League One" since Spurs last won a trophy. I think it's pretty obvious why some of us wouldn't include that. Sorry for derailing the thread...

I have often said the same. Pearson blotted his record with this.
