davieG Posted 17 November 2023 Posted 17 November 2023 https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/enzo-maresca-pencils-leicester-city-8910284 The Leicester City manager will discuss with the club's hierarchy this week the plans for the January transfer window the scope for improving the squad in the new year Jordan Blackwell 08:00, 17 NOV 2023 Enzo Maresca will sit down with the Leicester City hierarchy this international break to sketch out the club’s January transfer plans as he looks to improve his squad. City have arrived at the November break on top of the Championship table, but Maresca’s mantra is that they can always get better, and that extends to the make-up of the squad too. Talks will now be held with director of football Jon Rudkin and the recruitment team to look at the sort of business City want to do, and have the capacity to do. “For me, I always said the same: there is always room to improve,” Maresca said last week. “So even in that (the transfer window), there’s room to improve. We are still in November and it’s still early, but this international break we can sit with the club and discuss a little bit. We’ve not had any discussions yet.” Before the close of the summer window, City had tried to sign a new midfielder, with Manchester City’s James McAtee at Seagrave ahead of a switch before Sheffield United stole in and took the England Under-21 international back to Bramall Lane. But, that does not mean City still desire a new midfielder. Interest in McAtee was partly because of Dennis Praet’s back injury, but the Belgian is now back in training and should be playing again by the end of the month. And even with Wilfred Ndidi heading to the Africa Cup of Nations for a month in January, Maresca can call on winger Yunus Akgun, who he has used in a central position, while the manager also has high hopes for teenage talent Will Alves as he returns from injury. It may be that a new left-sided defender is City’s focus. After Callum Doyle was ruled out until January following knee surgery, Maresca said it’s the one position in his team where he doesn’t have two options. James Justin has been filling in well, but the manager prefers a left-footed player in the role to help with building attacks from the back. City have been linked with former Blackburn and Nottingham Forest forward Ben Brereton Diaz, now at Villarreal, but even with Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka at Afcon, and the latter potentially leaving in January, they still have Jamie Vardy and Tom Cannon to play up front, plus the likes of Stephy Mavididi, Abdul Fatawu, and Kasey McAteer to play on the wings. As well as Daka, goalkeepers Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward could also depart, with neither making a single appearance so far this term, but Harry Souttar, despite nearly moving to Rangers in the summer, has said he will stick around to fight for his place.
Popular Post Tuna Posted 17 November 2023 Popular Post Posted 17 November 2023 Put it simply we need more firepower and creativity. 11
Clever Fox Posted 17 November 2023 Posted 17 November 2023 Praet certainly isn't the answer so I wouldn't be putting much faith in him. I hope hoe goes during the Window. Likewise with Souttar who hasn't been bad but just doesn't fit Enzo's requirements. So better he goes too and we recover our money and find someone who will fit in what Enzo wants. We need someone in midfield who can hold the Ball and draw opponnents towards them creating space for others. A new left sided Defender and a new CB if Souttar or Vesty goes in the Window. A new Striker to replace Vardy or Kelchi who is not delivering for different reasons. I know we have a few coming back from injury but they will all need time to get up to speed. Time we don't really have as we need to keep winning as promotion is our number one Goal. 2
whoareyaaa Posted 17 November 2023 Posted 17 November 2023 we need a proven goalscorer in some shape of form either in midfield or up top. 4

Goalscorer's are difficult to find though. The wingers need to step up and start producing. The McAteer injury was unfortunate for us but hopefully he can find his scoring touch again. 2

filbertway Posted 18 November 2023 Posted 18 November 2023 As long as the signings are for next season I'm fine, no more ridiculous short-sighted signings please. 1
Focks Posted 18 November 2023 Posted 18 November 2023 We need to buy the best players from our biggest competitors in the Champ, or at least unsettle them 1

Weller Wing Posted 18 November 2023 Posted 18 November 2023 Should have a decent amount to spend if that compo from the Toffees comes through ,in time😄 1
kingkisnorbo Posted 18 November 2023 Posted 18 November 2023 Big window for Rudkin and the hierarchy if they’re serious about going up. 1
NewquayFox Posted 18 November 2023 Posted 18 November 2023 Strikers please, trampoline shins and Daka are away all of January, Vardy is just not Vardy anymore sadly and Cannon has played zero minutes unfortunately…

Cannon will get chances and if he takes them then making the signing 6 months early was the calculated play. 2

The ones we have are hit and miss. We don't seem to have an alternative to Mavididi on the left. Edited 19 November 2023 by Sideshow Faes
JimJams Posted 19 November 2023 Posted 19 November 2023 Well hang on, we have Mav, Kasey, Yunus and Fats. If Yunus is decided to be an 8, then ok. But that doesn't seem to be sorted yet.
fox_up_north Posted 20 November 2023 Posted 20 November 2023 I'm torn. On one hand I do think purchases now need to be with an eye to going up but it's also not a given we'll be promoted. Can't count our chickens yet.
