Yes used to rush up to the London Road station to get the Sports Edition then pop into town for an early evening film followed by the pub, then post 11am either the Lee Circle Bowling Alley or the Kenco Coffee house an actual rarity in those days

Do they still sell the Saturday evening Mercury sports special?   It used to arrive at the station not long after 5.30.

Now, I suppose that, due to games finishing later, it wouldn´t appear before 5.45 and I catch a train shortly after 5.30.

Growing up halfway between Derby and Nottm, we used to buy the Green Un and the Football Post

That recently? I honestly thought it would have gone in the early 90s.

Nah - in the 90s there was even the morning one as well (The Sporting Green?) wasn't there? We used to rip it up to make tickertape at matches. Them was the days.

One the most innovative tools back in the day. I still have one. I used it frequently when we got our first home and did a lot of DIY.

Now with smaller battery tools and such, it has become pretty much redundant.

That said, someone needs to develop a battery screwdriver that will be able to access small tight spaces.

The blue and the green were around at the same time. The blue lead with news about City and local football, while the green concentrated on the Tigers and rugby.

Hot dog vans in town

I remember when I was a kid in Burton town centre there was an old Italian guy selling hot dogs and burgers. He was brilliant. Always used to say "one cheesy burgler" in his Italian accent.

Flies.

OK, I'm seeing the odd one buzzing around but far, far fewer than in the past.

During hot spells especially, you would get several in the house. Outside when trying to eat something, you would be forever wafting them away.

I've noticed dog turds in the street without a single fly nearby - they used to be covered.

Around the corner from our house there lies a dead Hedgehog. It's been there several days and again, I've not seen a single Fly on its mortal remains.

You may think good riddance to them but even they play a vital role in the general eco system.

We've been infested with them this last week or so. We had a few went away for a couple of days and there must have been 20 or more when got back. Been removing 5 or 6 a day for a few days then nothing for a couple then they're back. We thought there must be a nest, do they have nest of them in our house some where but they keep popping up in different rooms, all at the sunny front of the house with all the doors shut.

There's a balloon festival starting from Viccy Park at the end of June.

I say festival, it's 25 balloons, which if you've ever been to the Bristol balloon festival (literally 100s), is a bit meh.

Standard quarter-job Leicester.
