His girlfriend was calling disabled people on benefits 'parasites' the other day.

Meanwhile Farage is back in the states campaigning for Trump.

The breathtaking hypocrisy of a man purporting to stand up for farmers and their families while directly advocating for policies that will make every single one of them work harder with lower yields and become worse off.

WRT Farage, it's not surprising that he's returned to his classical home halfway up Trumps colon.

Raising tuition fees is such a pointless exercise, very few get close to paying it off and is a glorified tax by the time you get into employment.

Has the value of a degree increased? I'd argue it's decreasing if anything

I only look at my balance when I need a laugh. I was in the first year of £9k fees, ended up taking 5 years to do a 3 year course because of health stuff, so left uni with about £70k in loans.

Fast forward a few years and it’s now nudging £100k which is hilarious, the interest for this financial year (so far) has added £3.5k.

I’d love to be in a position to pay it back, but I’m not. It’s an extra tax that I’m happy to pay for the education I got, much better to see it that way rather than as a debt to be repaid.

I’ve just completed a 1 year MA, about 17 years after paying £1k a year for an undergraduate degree that I still haven’t paid off. The fees have gone up 800% but the quality of the courses and the actual universities definitely haven’t. If anything, the financial chaos the uni is in has actively affected their decision making which led to a really confused course, especially towards the end, and my outcome has definitely suffered as a result. Most of the people on my course are extremely unhappy.

That said I don’t think Labour can do much given the mess the country is in. Fees will have to stay for now before the Uni system can be repaired or reformed. Students will unfortunately suffer as a result.

Our unis are absolutely world class. The output coming out from academia, especially in my area, is high class unless I’ve missed something huge. It’s a massive export market for us, people come from around the world to study here. Ofc if you’re going to Portsmouth or Buckinghamshire new university or one of those unis/courses where anyone will get accepted if they pay fees it’s a different story

& so it begins, Saino’s & M&S confirm food prices will have to go up to cover the additional NI costs, the rest will follow suit shortly as will every other service industry…”we won’t hit working people in the pocket” my ( x ) we will be worse off than if they taxed us outright effing shambles.

Where’s the confirmation from? The only thing I can see is that Sainsbury’s is confirming a price match with Aldi.

I think you're mixing up research output compared to teaching quality and employability. The quality of research in many areas is world leading for sure.

Many of our universities are 'world class', but that number is smaller compared to those which aren't. The actual quality of teaching is not increasing overall. That's not to say we don't have skilled lecturers who excel in teaching, but it's certainly not the norm.

...don't let the substantiated facts get in the way of speculative derision at the current incumbent government, with a side order of zero mention of the culpability of the previous one.

The value for money certainly doesn't improve. Contact time and actual face to face interaction decreases, I don't think quality of teaching or employability will ever reach in point with the rise in cost.

Google just confirmed to me that it’s not actually confirmed at all. There’s lots of “might” or “could” raise prices though.

Fair enough, I've been watching far too much unsubstantiated opinion being expressed as fact over the pond and it giving a convicted felon a good chance of getting the Presidency again, pardon my frustration at the phenomenon and the damage it causes.

Alright Nostradamus, calm down.
Your statement is blatantly wrong. Nobody has confirmed that prices will definitely rise due to the new NI rules. They could, or might.
Price rises in April… standard isn’t it?

Inevitable they said & the dictionary tells me that means ‘certain to happen’ so 🤷‍♂️

Sainsbury’s alone have additional £200m to find & will find that on top of any “standard” April hike.

Ah ok fair enough. I get there are loads of grifter unis out there with about 5 hours contact time a week. But I assumed our top unis were still top given how many foreigners come solely to study

I know fvck all about universities but my daughter is in the process of applying to a few.

Apparently she's been accepted into Exeter, Southampton, and Liverpool (providing she gets her predicted grades). They're all supposed to be Russell Group Uni's which I think are decent?

The thought of her getting massively into student debt worries me although @reporterpenguinseems pretty chilled about it :D

I didn’t see the word “inevitable” in my quick google search, I’ll take your word for it.

You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to tell us what we all know. Because I can tell you for a fact, you only know what you think you know.
