If there isn't a single youngster in the academy that he rates enough to get on the bench for an FA Cup tie against a Championship side then there needs to be a serious enquiry into the state of the academy 2

JimJams Posted 11 January Posted 11 January No problem with that lineup at all. This game was an opportunity to do one of two things. One, put out a bunch of squad and youth players and see if anybody excels enough to warrant a place in the regular side. Or two, put out a full strength side having had time to work in training on the system and expectations against weaker opposition as a warm up ahead of a very important game against Palace. Potential downsides today are obviously not getting a result means morale stays low, at least among the fan base, and of course the risk of injuries given we're putting out key players. But injuries can happen walking the dog. Upsides are obvious. 2
Nick Posted 11 January Posted 11 January The’ve got Chair on the left of their front three… was that the same Chair we were rumoured to be looking at last window?

Youngsters shouldn’t just be given minutes when they aren’t ready. Most of our best youngsters went out on loan. If we are desperately relying on one of those three to win a game against bloody QPR then we might as well jack in the competition anyway
J. James Posted 11 January Posted 11 January Very strong line up (for us) with the exception of Faes, clearly a selection to win convincingly and build confidence, however if we still under perform, lose or get a key injury then the gamble will backfire big time. Has our manager accepted that we are down whatever? To say I'm personally unimpressed with RvN is an understatement.

jim5000 Posted 11 January Posted 11 January No need to rest the first team as we’re only playing one match a week. We need to get a win from somewhere and non point risking a first round exit today. A cup run could be a bit of brightness in this calamity of a season. In Ruud we trust

Yeah, I know the situations are different and, as others are saaying the manager may want to give the 'first team' more confidence, but look at the number of young players Liverpool have on the pitch.
