I must say I've never had a Samsung TV, I was Sony till LG.

Had Samsung phones for maybe 10 years now though, again with no problems.

We've still got 2 Samsung TVs that have basically been retired after 16 and 10 years without any issues, but two newer ones both developed problems. There's lot of luck involved with this stuff and I'd buy from somewhere with a nice long warranty whatever brand folk go for

For under 1K and wanting a 65 inch, you cant go wrong with a decent Hisense TV.  Yes they are slightly behind screens made by samsung etc, but the tradeoff in price is worth it.   They are extremely good value for money

This....got a Samsung £2000 and a £650  Hisence both 55" and to be honest the picture quality between the two is negliagible. The only real difference is the sound.....but nothing that can't be sorted out with a sound bar on the Hisence.

TVs I've been looking at, tend to have 6 year warranties at Richer Sound or 5 at John Lewis.

However, I've noticed brands like Hisense only have 2 years at RS.

There's a reason for that - reliability.

Of course there are exceptions where you can be lucky/unlucky with any brand but on balance, I would suggest Sony, higher end Panasonics and some Samsung sets.

My only qualification for saying this is research, including talking to folk in the trade and the fact in just over 40 years, I've had just 3 TVs.

I echo what most have said in here. I got an LG OLED tv and sound bar last jan from richer sounds. The tv is amazing and the service and price from richer sounds were unbeatable.

Divorce or a projector? Might sleep on that one and have a think :P

She'd end up with the projector in the divorce anyway.  Lose lose here.

So random thread to start, but couldn't find one that suited. I didn't think Rudkin Out thread was appropriate.

Has anyone got any recommendations for TVs. I've not bought one for 5 years and Im thinking I need a new one. Going for 65". I'm not wanting to spend £1k, something cheaper.

Any recommendations? Make, model? It'll be used for general TV, watching Leicester lose and casual gaming by the kids (8 years old) on the Switch.

I've looked online and I didn't realise there were so many models, versions of more or less the same thing! So wanted people's experience and recommendations to help.

I've got a 43" Samsung at the mo and it's time for a change.

Also, is Richer Sounds still the place to go?

Deals are coming in now ..

What's a BLC code?

Blue light discount. It's basically a discount card for emergency services, army (RAF, navy etc...), and education

I was looking into buying a new TV & I was finding it a bit of a minefield - me being a bit of a technophobe.

My missus is severely disabled & it was more for her than me, seeing as she does little else except watch the telly. It would have to be completely hands free too, as she can't operate a remote control.

On the strength of what people on here have said. We have bought a 55" LG OLED C4.  I only went into Currys to have a look at it in the flesh before going to Richer Sounds to actually buy it.  Ended up buying it from Currys with a free £400 LG 5.1 surround.

Gone is the old 43" Sony LED - which has been awful since I bought it & has put me off buying a SONY ever again.  Truly awful.

It's crazy good.  It's like night & day.  The picture is amazing.  My eyes are having to adjust to the difference in quality.  The missus asked me if it was a 3D TV.

Not plugged the surround in yet, as we already have a decent Yamaha sound bar & I intend to wall mount the TV as soon as I can - then try the new surround sound.

Thanks to everyone who recommended the LG.

So i have a new TV and it only coste £347. I was so tempted by the LG B4 OLED as it was a great price and picture quality. But I found in Currys in their 'reduces section' a LG QNED 55" from last year and i love it. Yes, it's last year's model and it isn't as good as an Oled, but I'm impressed with the quality of the picture, sound is fine and overall it was a bargain. For the price (half the price of oled), nothing came close.

So I'm a happy bunny, as I always love a deal and a bargain. A 55" was the correct size to go for, as it's big enough for my room without dominating it. Also got 3yrs warranty with it. So added bonus. If you don't ask :D

Has anyone used Freely on a tv yet?

With the price hikes with Virgin every year I’m considering getting a tv that has Freely on and just having WiFi with Virgin.

It’s got a limited amount of channels but we don’t watch too much telly since having a little one anyway.

Thought about using IPTV full time but we need something more child friendly.

What do you mean by child friendly? My IPTV has all the children's channels, and the interface is very easy to use, very similar to Sky from a few years ago

An example of what I mean is there’s no way of blocking movies that are age rated (not that I’m aware of anyway). Any adult programmes on Virgin or Sky require the pin code to watch them.

I still remember sneakily watching Eurotrash as a young lad 😂
