He’s basically Andrew Ryan in BioShock.

He also called out all presidents past neglecting to say that he was one of them. Guy can say anything to maga and they will let him shag their wives, moms,  grandma's.

Andrew Ryan had charisma and at least some coherence

What an absolute dickhead. Everyone should start discounting trade with other countries paid for by any tariffs paid for by the US

Is now a good time for the UK government / EU to start squeezing the American businesses that have utilised tax havens to support tax evasion?

I’m looking at you Amazon, Adobe, Alphabet (Google), Cisco, Meta, Microsoft, Apple, eBay, Netflix, Starbucks ……

We can start a trade war if Trump wants to pull up the drawbridge on America.

if the world also imposes massive taxes for airlines landing from US destinations as well, they’ll get to a point where they’ll be cut off.

The usual media suspects lining up to downplay the effects of these tariffs on the UK and that a "deal is possible" with this administration.

How more plainly obviously self interested do Trump and his lackeys need to be, so as if such a deal with him and them is even desirable.

Xi Jinping will be on the shandy’s tonight surely.

He'll likely be thinking of this as a massive opportunity to eat into more of the US advantage as the leading world power, and calling lots of other world leaders to work to that effect.

Ireland would be the thorn in the EU side with that considering its effectively been a tax haven for US companies to set up their EU HQ for years.

I saw something online that said around 30% of Vietnam’s GDP is trade export to the States and he’s slapped a 90% tariff on them 😭 he cannot surely complain when those exports end up in Wuhan

Exactly. With all the associated price rises for American consumers that will result from such upheaval.

Is the plan to abolish income tax in the US with the money coming in from tariffs

Higher prices for the American consumer but lower taxes so possibly a quid pro quo ?

I've no idea about the economics of these things but know that Trump repeatedly harks back to the era of high tariffs with no income tax

Yeah I think that’s his plan along with desperate leaders trying to negotiate better terms for trade.

Yeah, he and his want The Gilded Age back.

Socially as well as economically, in all its rather dubious glory.

I will say one thing: this current US administration has managed to do more for (mostly) global unity than any other in recent times.

It's just a shame the cost will likely be the biggest global player sitting out while the rest of the world attempts to face the problems that need to be faced.
