*Looks at today's front pages*

Yep. It was a mistake.

Think you're a bit quick to be making that call. Why not try again in a week's time.

Listening to BBCR4 this morning and I thought what an absolute bizarre world we are living in.

Politician after Politician being asked for their definition of what makes a women and all dodging an answer.

Secondly, the police would like to be able to sack officers who fail background checks.

Satire has become reality.

Amazing that proper background checks are not being conducted isn't it... And from the one establishment entity that you would hope should be rather good at it

Presumably one of the polling companies will be surveying public opinion about the ruling. It will be interesting to see what that shows.

Possibly, but I also think events will just move this off the radar quite quickly. Today's newspaper headlines is tomorrow's fish and chip wrapping.

You could be right to be honest, the real thing will be to see where we are in a few years time.

That being said, the response from the usual print media suspects was predictable to pretty much anyone.

I remember reading that Kyoto (Japan's ancient capital) was only spared from the target list because a high ranking US politician had spent his honeymoon there. Also, if a third bomb had been used, the likely target would indeed have been Tokyo.

And it's not even the spectacular method of wrecking people's lives that's the only, or even the biggest problem with Trump - it's the everyday little things that he's done, is doing and will do that make the world a worse place for everyone except himself and a very small demographic.

The video mentioned that.

If you think that is positive, do not post on a 'bad' day.

The end of the dying is certainly a positive. I’ve put on these pages many times that there will be no good outcome for anyone in this war. Everyone will walk away worse off. Ukraine can keep fighting and we can keep supplying but they’re never going to take back the majority of what they’ve lost by force. We missed the boat in 2022.

The Easter ceasefire didn't effect how many died.

I suspect that any ceasefire agreed to by Russia will be broken and denied within weeks if not days.

Agreed, Putin will just string this out until the end suits his requirements, or somebody else makes him stop.

Russia needs the war to prop up the economy so I doubt it will stop soon. I suspect they will tell trump that the European sanctions have to end before the ceasefire is agreed.

Yeah, you are probably correct unfortunately.

Because it was all a gimmick and both Putin and Zelensky are trying to prove to the US who the bad guys are, and both look silly. They both broke the ceasefire and they’ll both break ceasefires moving forward. Nobody will win this war but the longer it goes on, Russia will likely be able to improve their position more than Ukraine by pure numbers alone and very few people have a plan other than hope. I do suspect we’re going to see Ukraine go full sabotage in Russia now, I’d expect some high level assassinations.

The post-empire partitioning geopolitical spaces seem totally fine at the moment.

Israel-Palestine conflict, Sudanese civil war and now India and Pakistan (two nuclear states) about to go at each other. We just need it to kick off in Belfast for the bingo house.

Not as silly as the Trump administration.

End of the dying, for how long? I would suggest that normalising illegal annexations is not a good outcome either. You seem to be taking a very short term view on something that will have ramifications for decades.

They wouldn’t have needed to take occupied territories back by force if they were and had been given the tools to attrit Russian forces on a larger scale.

It’s not a short term view when nobody actually has a plan other than carry on and hope something falls into place. If somebody actually had a credible plan for Ukraine to kick the Russians out, I’d be more supportive but all I see right now is more pain for both Ukranians and Russians, and sadly Russia will be able to tolerate more pain.

Appeasing an aggressor is not a plan, it just kicks the can down the road and encourages others to use force to get what they want.

100s of countries to negotiate and just the 18 deals on the table sounds like they are winning again. Never actually hear any deals being made though. Hope once that orange blob disappears we never hear anyone say art of the deal again

Russia is becoming much more dangerous because it is closer to collapse than Ukraine. It needs the ceasefire more which is why Putin is putting pressure on Trump to push Zelensky IMO.

I am starting to think that Ukraine are feeling more confident in their position than they have for some time. What would be a tipping point is France not holding back on weapons and being difficult over arms deals for future European production. I think Zelensky is now playing for time as the war will be won economically. Ironically, trumps economic war is effecting Russia by driving down oil prices and he won't force the rest of the world to raise sanctions, which leaves their recovery very precarious.

What evidence is there that Russia is closer to collapse than Ukraine? It’s Russia that are constantly on the offensive, the Ruble has also recovered and they also have a greater depth of people to mobilise. I just don’t think it’s credible that Ukraine can ‘wait it out’, it’s a crazy gamble.
