Archie Collins still without a club, surprises me. We should be all over that, a very straightforward quality addition.

I'd imagine this would depend on Skipp moving on which isn't going to happen

If it was possibly to replace Skipp with Collins on a free, that would be very good financial business.

But as you say, what can we do with Skipp? Can’t see a permanent move but also can’t see him staying. A loan with us contributing seems more likely.

Not allowed, 27 next month and blocks too many youngsters unfortunately

Free transfer is very different to someone you are going to pay money for.

Not necessarily - a free transfer can still get a very big chunk of money from a club

They can feel like they can ask for higher weekly wages and agent fees etc. because there is no transfer fee

And we know what we are like with wages and long contracts

Bertrand, Reid, Chaplin, McCarthy - all getting longer contracts than they probably should

If the Adebayo one is true that could be the case with him as well

You think we are paying someone like Cullen peanuts to drop a division, he's also getting wages, he not playing for free.

A lot will depend on where they are coming form and who it is.

I wouldn't be bring in Adebayo ethier.

Just think we need to be leaner and smart with our money.

No obviously but just because a player is free doesn’t mean they aren’t also coming with big costs like a transfer fee signing - the money just moves elsewhere in the deal

I don’t want us to touch Adebayo with a bargepole - I have more issues with that deal than I do the Cullen one

I am looking forward to the potential carnage if we sell all 4 centre backs - gonna be some disgusting deals because clubs will know how desperate we are

Yep.

I mean it isn't always the case. As with everything it's about the strength of the position you're negotiating from isn't it. Obviously if you're a free agent that can't find a club you take what you can get.

But often free agents know the clubs chasing them are saving on transfer fees and if they've got multiple offers on the table then their agents do tend to talk up massive signing on fees.

Nothing in football is genuinely free.

pretty spot on id say; think some of our fans forget a "free" isnt always(and most the time) isnt free

the uproar in regards the Cullen signing is funny to see mind

I think you only have to look at how much we spent on agent fees during a period where we didn’t spend any money on actual transfer fees to see how easy a target we are for them as well

3rd highest in the league

Why? It's a free transfer, we're not exactly overflowing with CM options

Skipp, Braybrooke, Page, Hamza.

Then Chaplin and Cullen(if he signs) as AM.

I think someone would have to leave.

Its about targeting the right players as always.

I just don't think in our predicament we should be paying fee for anyone in the 27+ range.

Because we are poor at scouting and poor negotiatiors.

Do wonder how much of that also counts for us paying them to find moves for our crap

I'm as excited about Braybrooke and Page as anyone, but there's a very real chance that when it comes to actual competitive League One football, they might not be up for the job. Braybrooke has done well in League 2, but it's a big step up - Page has had very limited Championship minutes. If they're not at the races, that leaves us with Skipp and Choudhury week in week out and we're leaving ourselves light. I think for me, a free transfer in that position - especially someone who has excelled in this league - is a no brainer. Surely some room in the wage bill now we've shifted so many high earners.

I would defo try and sell one of Skipp or Choudhury too, but frankly I don't think anyone will want them.

At least one of Skipp or Choudhury won't be here - maybe just on loan for this season.

Am I wrong in thinking Sam Morsy was a pain in our backside in games against Ipswich?

Hes 34 and currently with the PFA free agents squad.

Not a priority right now. If Hamza and Skipp went then i'd rather Collins on a free or Charlie Webster for £1m if we have it.

Murmurs Birmingham and another Champ club are back in for Hamza

I've been well impressed with Webster when I've seen him. Go to watch Burton a bit.
