At what point does he get labelled a Dictator?

Purely on paper he shouldn't be. He was elected in a free and fair electoral process (as far as can be ascertained) and the country he is leader of does still have working checks and balances against him (again, as far as can be ascertained).

To use a more precise definition of what the man is, he should be labelled as an enemy of human future, human progress and of life itself in a way that a great many dictators of history would envy, and the parts of the world actually caring about that that are in his crosshairs need to act accordingly.

Trump to impose tariffs on European countries over Greenland

BREAKING

US President Donald Trump has announced a new set of tariffs for a swathe of countries that export goods to the US, beginning on 1 February.

Trump says these will remain in place until "such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland" by the US.

Writing on social media, Trump says countries including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland will be "charged a 10% tariff" on "all and any" goods sent to the US.

On 1 June, this will be increased to 25%, he writes on Truth Social.

As a reminder, tariffs are taxes on imported goods, and are usually paid to the government by companies bringing in foreign products.

Let him, sod them. He's not getting his way on this whatever, no matter how high the tariffs. If he isn't reined in by Congress or the senate then it's time the UK recognised the US is not a good friend. It's a bully.

I thought tariffs were set at EU level, so he couldn't pick and choose which EU countries to impose them upon?

Could this collapse on him ….

The Canadians choosing to back a different horse. Funny, that.

I dont like dealings with China but at the same time one cannot make a deal with Trump.  A deal for Trump means a major L for you.

I want Carney to continue our push away from American reliance because we already know there is no deal for us. It's Trumps way or the highway.  It will be hard but we just cant be friends with someone who is only a friend because they need someone to bully.

Its about time Europe recognizes this as well and we all should move on. Bare minimum trade with them.

If the world stops trading with America and imposes counter tariffs, does it all spiral and collapse?

Did you have to show them your foxestalk posting history when entering the country? Their thoughts on Cifuentes?

If Trump does enough to truly alienate the world (like through actually using the military to attack Greenland), I think it's possible enough Repub Congress members will finally say enough is enough. But only possibly.

Truly see opportunity in Trump's behaviour. He has demonstrated unequivocally why we need to rebuild our relationship with the EU. Nothing is more important for our country's future

The host country imposes tariffs on goods going into the country, so Trump can do what he likes, while Congress continues to be gutless. The EU could and should respond by imposing its own tariffs on all goods entering the single market.

You're probably right, I'm just sure I read somewhere that tariffs had to be EU wide and couldn't be imposed upon individual countries within the bloc, I think possibly when he was threatening Spain when Sánchez refused to increase our defense spending to meet his demands

Does get rather tiresome when the world refuses to be anything other than be constantly exciting.

Daft old man wants medals, legacy and a stairway to heaven. You better hope there is no hell Don.

At this point who is he talking too? The 30% (??) of the US population who are Maga?

It could be that WTO rules say they should but that organisation is even less toothless than Congress

With Trump, you suck it up, make a deal to station more US bases on Greenland and keep it in Danish hands. All the dramatics are a side show, a 10% tariff is nothing.

I don’t understand how you can still not take Trump for his word at this point. US already has the right to unlimited troops in Greenland, it’s part of NATO and Denmark already agreed to unlimited US bases. That deal you are talking Denmark has already said they’ve agreed to.

This is  about the US invading Denmark and Europe so they can annex land (and as a very coincidental side note own minerals important to building AI data centres). Trump is very clear about all this and as usual people want to bury their heads in the sand whilst he continuously shows us you should take him for his word.

Trouble is you can’t just stop trading with the worlds biggest economy

What happens to that world's biggest economy if most everyone does?

Edit: if that kind of measure is off the table, I'm wondering what would be a fair response to the current actions of the US government. If any.

But that just won’t happen in reality - a total boycott of the US? Not a prayer

Regrettably true, it a vote loser for one as loss of what are normalised services could lose an election on its own.

And we suck at not having 'stuff'

Fine, taking that as assumed, I wouldn't mind hearing about the edited part of my post above.

As always, the answer to noise and threats is silence, restraint and most importantly, unity.
