les-tah Posted 14 January Posted 14 January If braybrooke, Alves etc continue to progress with no new injuries it certainly sets for an exciting championship next year with them in the team alongside side page, monga nelson etc. However In a shocking and very bizarre turn of events with how close the middle of the championship is we could put a few wins together and scrape 6th place and win the playoffs which then freezes them all out again.

It’s why it’s so important these guys have successful loans & there’s a pathway from the academy. It feels ever more clear we’re going to need them. I don’t see where the signings come from 1

I think all 5 will be first team squad members next season, unless we sell them. With all the players out on contact, the players on loan disappearing and those we will sell, we are going to need about 12 in, so a number of academy lads need to step up. 1

Football never surprises me If they lose 1-0 at the weekend they will all be writing him off and calling for him to sent back. Football is so fickle
RowlattsFox Posted 14 January Posted 14 January (edited) My main hope for the rest of this season is Will Alves plays as much as possible, even better if he has a postive impact. Lad just needs to prove he can go a period of time without getting injured. Edited 14 January by RowlattsFox

Making his first start since September after recovering from a foot injury, the City loanee looked at his free-flowing best on Tuesday night, dribbling the ball with speed and close control, with the Millers unable to keep a handle on him. Starting in an attacking midfield role with the freedom to drift left, Alves had the end product too, and it ensured Huddersfield comfortably progressed to the last eight of the Vertu Trophy. For the opener, the 20-year-old received the ball with his back to goal, took a touch inside and curled into the far corner from 18 yards. Potential Wout Faes transfer fee emerges as Monaco confirm Leicester City clause Leicester City's transfer to-do list may have fourth task with duo's status pivotal For the second, he received the ball out wide near the byline, spun his man, and raced into the box. His goal-bound shot was tipped onto the crossbar, with Terriers team-mate Lasse Sorensen gobbling up the rebound. Now he’s back in the starting line-up, the aim will be to keep his place and help Huddersfield’s League One promotion push. “He’s tired after the game of course, but it’s significant minutes and I really enjoyed the threat he caused in the first half,” manager Lee Grant said of Alves. “I thought Cammy (Cameron Ashia) and Will in the first half really tormented the full-back and the defender on that side. So that was really pleasing. I thought Will was really productive in those moments. “Will’s closer (to starting league matches) as he’s been exposed to it longer. He’s also got youth on his side. He’s really pushing and we’re really excited about that.” Discussing his return to the side and his impact on the ball, Alves told BBC Radio Leeds: “I’m delighted for myself to be back out there, but winning is the main thing and being able to help out with a goal and creating the second one, I’m delighted. “It’s just my instincts. When I’m in my own flow, I don’t think too much. I just move with the ball, it’s what I’ve done my whole life.” It was only Alves’ sixth appearance for Huddersfield since joining the club on loan last summer, but performances like that will earn him plenty of minutes in the second half of the season if he can stay fit. The Terriers have lost influential Chelsea loanee Leo Castledine, who has been sold to Middlesbrough, and so there is room for Alves to make the attacking midfield spot his own, improving his game before returning to City in the summer.

Joseph and Aluko especially have the potential to be good Championship players. Cover seemed to have a lot of potential when he had mins for us previously. I’d be interested to see who he’s progressing. Definitely looked like he could do the inverted full back role and much better passer and on the ball that Hamza (a low bar)

I really hope we don’t waste our limited resources on signing a RB when Ricardo’s contract expires in the summer. Aluko and Joseph can compete for the position. I mean this is just a stupid shout, I’ll champion a youth/homegrown player as much as the next man. But this is just stupid. One was a championship fan favourite at Sheffield United last season, one is playing league 2 - this/last season. Don’t let your agendas get in the way of a bit of hyperbole folks. 1

I don't think it's that unreasonable to think Choudhury is not a right back and shouldn't be playing there. I think he gets way too much of a pass for being played out of position. 1

I think Sheff Utd fans would disagree based on what they watched last season, traditional Right Back - Choudhury is effective, start asking him to invert and get involved in possession (probably half the reason you move him from his natural midfield position in the first place) he gets found out.

It’s so important he has an injury free second half of the season. The main thing similar to Braybrooke is that he’s playing consistently. But I hope he can start influencing games from the start. The biggest criticism I could say of his Cardiff loan was he’d go missing when starting compared to being an impact sub (which you can kind of expect) Signs last night were very promising albeit against a weak Rotherham side 1

To be fair, Choudhury’s good form at Sheff Utd was when they moved him to his natural position as a defensive midfielder. It is us who have this obsession with playing him at full back. Not that I am saying Joseph is currently better than he is but just that it wasn’t playing right back that made him a fan favourite when on loan. 1

I agree, think without his ACL he would already be a fixture in the first time. People seem to gloss over his time at Cardiff, but his goal and assist contribution per minutes was better than Fatawu this term in a crap side Just needs to stay fit and build his confidence. No reason he can't make it here, other than injuries. Really hoping both him and Braybrooke can do a KDH. Edited 14 January by coolhandfox 1

He didn't really play as a traditional rightback last season. He often came into the middle and was also the last line cos Wilder likes to fxxk around with his CB and fullback roles. Although I suppose you'd need to define what a traditional rightback is now.
