If you still think it's purely about Floyd then that's sad.

Well what is it about? This whole movement was started because of George Floyd. I’m not even one of the types to ‘keep politics out of football’ but everyone is aware of what racism is, if you’re able to afford to go to the football or watch on tv/online then you’re most likely working and have to do an inclusion and diversity training module every year. People associate kneeling with George Floyd especially considering this is the 5th anniversary of his death and it’s made a return, there’s plenty of ‘movements’ regarding racism that work and don’t cause division that don’t include treating the death of George Floyd like a tragedy

Using offensive words like Fascist scum and frothy-mouthed isn't very helpful. Both terms that can be levelled at all opponents whatever your viewpoint. Playground name-calling doesn't add anything to the discussion or alter anyone's opinion whether you like it or not. Opinions are healthy and by talking about inclusivity in the game is a good thing, isn't it?

You find ‘frothy-mouthed’ offensive?

It’s about inclusively and equality. The George Floyd incident was just the trigger.

The BLM movement pre-existed George Floyd (started in 2013, and in 2014 there were protests in Ferguson and New York against two people killed by police) – his death was just the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of it sparking massive protests and getting so much media attention, probably made easier by the fact so many people were furloughed/laid off during the early covid months.

The decision to take the knee for BLM is made by individual players, teams and their respective football leagues. The decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans was made by West Midlands police and the Birmingham Safety Advisory Group.

Who are you accusing of hypocrisy and why?

Taking the knee message is 'No room for racism'. Nothing to do with BLM, is it, but does it matter who took what decision? Clear enough if it applies to all. Perhaps it does and is a reminder to the West Midland authorities.

Not sure what it means, to be honest, but I'm guessing that it's a childish insult :dunno:

George Floyd was not a good guy, no one is arguing that he is (except for right wingers who spend too much time on facebook’s perceived strawman idea of “the left”). That dosen’t mean he deserved to die fgs.

Of course that has nothing to do with why players would be kneeling in 2025 - instead it’s a wider anti racism message. It’s definitely needed, the way the country has been in the last couple of years. If you’re getting so wound up about players kneeling for a few seconds then maybe you should reevaluate what you stand for, and what being “anti anti racism” makes you.

You're conflating the two things.

Floyd died in May 2020. The 5th anniversary was months ago.

It's about promoting equality. It's not just about Floyd any more. You're right that his death may have been the catalyst for it all and if anything it raised awareness of the social injustices occurring around the world. Why would anyone be against that?

Kneeling was around way before Floyd's death by the way.

Taking the knee shouldn't cause division. The way I see it is that if you're against it, you're pretty much against wanting to see things put right in society. The impact of it may have lessened over the years, but it literally does no harm to anyone at all to have to watch players take a knee for only a few seconds on a day in your life. It doesn't threaten anyone, it doesn't demean anyone and it doesn't divide.

People see these actions as not leading to equality, but an imbalance the other way where we have DEI initiatives where POC only may apply, with British organisations looking to 'decolonise', which is seen as anti white sentiment. It's just become divisive imo, as is anything the blocks people from applying because of perceived white privilige. We were more together before this nonsense imported from the US

It’s not hypocritical though, it’s two different entities making completely separate decisions. If you think the West Midlands police have made a racist decision then by all means challenge that, but there’s no hypocrisy here.

It's only hypocritical if the taking the knee act doesnt apply to inclusivity for all, not just some. Not sure if the players motive includes the decision to preclude some fans from a Europa League match because of their country of origin.

I dont need to challenge anything as the leaders of all major political parties, including the PM, are already doing that.
