Martin has an obsession with a style of football but he doesn’t embed tactics that make it successful.

 

Enzo football was far from ideal but you could see so many consistent patterns of play that created chances.

All you have to do is look at how many times you’d see KDH/Ndidi offer those runs inbetween Vardy/underlap Stephy/Abdul.

 

Another example of a manager with a similar style but clear tactical tweak, De Zerbi at Brighton was the prime definition of bait and press….you would see Dunk as an example do it at CB because he could plus he had players off/around him creating box/triangles etc.

 

Martin does what any Sunday league coach would do and just says to pass it around the back and hope that one of their players tries pressing on their own/poorly.

Humiliating performance. It’s the managers insistence to play this way at all costs. And Tops insistence to continue to hire managers to play it. 
 

We’re too easy to setup against. 
 

Imagine we realise, swallow our pride and go for a no nonsense manager who knows how to get us out this division. We won’t and its this poisonous ownership that need to ripped out of this club ASAP I hold no faith anything will get better.

My father-in-law supports Southampton, so I watched plenty of them under Martin. He has one idea and absolutely nothing beyond it. No flexibility, no tactical nous, just suicideball regardless of the game. His better results often seemed to come when the players ignored him and went rogue.

 

He’s the worst manager I’ve ever watched at this level.

Your comment about his sides 'going rogue' absolutely tallies with what I saw of them. And, as with Puel at Leicester, a disproportionate number of goals come late in the day, when tactics go out the window and you throw the kitchen sink at them. As much as Puel was ten times the manager Martin is, that still says a lot about their starting tactics.

I genuinely think he's one of the worst managers there has ever been who has somehow got to this level. 

 

i'm assuming that using a constant stream of meaningless buzzwords and nonsensical jargon must work a charm on club owners who have no idea what they're doing.

Could sort of get it if you were a genuine L1/L2 club hoping that you get lucky with a young manager. But for a club of our size to have ever had an interest, is absolutely mental
