I actually liked what Enzo was building. He gave us an identity and ticked a lot of boxes, but when he left, he left us in a pretty shit position at the worst possible time. The managerial choices since haven’t helped either.

I don’t particularly like Russell’s style either. I’d much rather see old school, fast, aggressive, get it out wide and get crosses in. But football has moved on.

I actually like this group now and think Russell is building a better team spirit. We need stability. Changing manager again now would just be more of the same.

Give him time, give the team time. I genuinely think we can go up this season and be challenging at the top/play-offs next year. Just be patient for once.

What have you seen to suggest he’ll turn it around? 
I fail to see how someone who hasn’t been able to beat Notts County, Mk Dons, Burton and 10 man Barnsley can realistically turn it around. 
Add to that the thrashing at home to Oxford. 
As usual with these clowns it was completely the wrong appointment.

I’m yet to see enough to suggest he knows how to set a team up defensively, other than shifting to a back 3/5. 

The attack seems to be starting to click a little better, and with confidence players will start taking their chances. But the fact we’re also liable to concede two or three big chances from our own mistakes in defence means we need to score 3 a game to be in with a shot of winning and we certainly are not that. Needs to turn it around quickly, and I’m not sure he’s humble enough to change his stubborn way.

The biggest problem with sacking Martin relates to the people who would be in charge of appointing his replacement.

Not hugely convinced by that considering Martin threw the young players under the bus after the Oxford game and seems to have fallen out with Bristic. 
Although I admit his reaction after scoring maybe means there’s no issue now. 
I fail to have any confidence in a manager who has 4 wins in over 30 matches. 
Seems to continue to have this strange obsession with possession stats and energy rather than actually winning football matches.

Any manager coming into this environment would struggle. Complete reset and new mindset is needed. It doesn’t help when the board want to sell the club. Management is the same across all industries, bad eggs and culture makes change difficult. The club is going through a reset, be patient

You can give him all the time, the money, the signings, all the resources you want but the fact is we won’t be anywhere near promotion with him in charge and my own guess is we’ll be in league 2 next year if he stays.

Would any manager really coming into us struggle? 
With the players we’ve bought in we should be doing better. 
I keep mentioning him but imo Challinor would have us at least in the top 6. 
Not having just 2 wins and not even into double figures.

Would you give me a chance if the club signed me and stuck me up front? Never played professional football in my life but would I deserve at least an appearance? 
 

We should have signed someone who has a proven record and a high win % in league 1 (Challinor) because that’s what we need. Instead we’ve signed someone who’s won 4 games in about 2 years and has been a proven, consistent failure. But we should give him a chance because what? He might suddenly become a good manager, despite never showing it in his life?

It’s a risk/reward approach - so a larger sample of games is needed before any firm conclusions can be made.

 

If we end up scoring freely and playing entertaining football as part of that - maybe some of the self-indulgent mistakes will seem a little less of a worry? 
 

I think another big caveat has to be added about our defences performance in this opening part of the season - we haven’t had the ideal defence and midfield pairings for many of the games.

 

Page and Lundstram didn’t start the season and we’ve already had several different centrehalf combinations - I’d expect these areas to be a lot more consistent in terms of personnel when we come back and that will surely make a difference.

Yeah I think this viewpoint is flawed. Whilst I agree it isn't straight forward, most new managers enter an environment where they are taking on a rebuild or under performance and the things they thrive on is being backed with resources (which he unequivocally has). 

 

In the modern era too, managers tend to hit the ground running or that's that and like Enzo did here it is achievable. Every season you will find examples of this, as well as examples of managers who fail to be a success.

 

Bottom line is, we cannot afford to be in this league more than a season. Even promotion doesn't solve our future as we are losing money year in, year out and our owners can no longer/are unwilling to fund it.

 

So some of you can be as sympathetic as you want in giving him a lot of time, but if this goes wrong then you might not have a club. That won't be all on Martin but it's also not as outrageous a possibility as you might think.

Barnsley play the most recklessly open football in the league and it was the red card that forced them to abandon that. Obviously this finds Martin wanting as usual.

 

The stats are embarrassing. That alone should be sackable. That isn't a team making a jot of progress - just simply treading water until the next implosion.

We won’t, we will just bumble into draws and defeats because they cause their own problems that don’t need to be made and never adapt to the opposition. We can go from high up the pitch attacking, someone is scared to cross and 3 passes later we are getting pressed and give it away near our keeper. 

 

If we had the same tactics as Oxford or Stockport, we would be battering this league.
