Yeah and i don't necessarily disagree. But bear in mind the fanbase has had the piss taken out of them for getting on for half a decade, and almost every time there was a bit of unity at the start of a big game the players have shit the bed and let us down.

 

Those scars are going to take a long time to heal, two wins in league 1 aren't even going to touch the sides.

Said it on the pod this week in relation to what will he need to do to prove people wrong / be considered successful. Promotion is the bare minimum but I can see why some would still not be entirely convinced just at that and only if he got us challenging for top 6 of the Championship would he have silenced the critics.

 

I'd take the former as a starter and will happily go on record if he does get us up and i've set my stall out on him from May 2023 when he was first linked.

It's not just the manager, owner and DoF that has taken the piss out of the fans for the last 5 years. The players have to cop their fair share of it.

 

It's not to suggest they're as at fault as the owner, but ultimately they couldn't beat 10 man Barnsley, they were beaten 4-0 at home by Oxford, they've given the fans relegation in 3 of the last 4 years etc.

How many of our current matchday squad were involved in those relegations? Maybe two or three out of eighteen? Do you really think it’s fair to make a team of young players carry the can for failures they had nothing to do with?

We could win the next 3 league games 3-1 but people will still focus criticism on the manager for the goal we concede from a misplaced pass.

 

We saw it this week after a meaningless fixture. Heavy criticism for the goal we conceded because some people have made it abundantly clear they hate the style of play. Yet that style of play is not given any credit when we score 6 times because it's largely dismissed as poor goalkeeping and 'it's only their u21s'.

As the players that were involved. Fortunately, most of them have moved on. 

 

You could say this about the manager too, who is equally relatively new (To us).

 

I don't agree entirely with what he says. We have a young team that needs time to get. The fact that we don't have that time is annoying and inconvenient, but I don't see how it is avoidable. It's definitely not insurmountable.

All of them were involved in us failing to beat 10 man Barnsley.

If he won his first 3 games everyone would praise Martin. If he wins his next 3 the pressure will ease on him. he has only won 2 in 7! That is why the negative comments now. football has always been this way. 
 

Yes criticize the goal conceded because we see the same thing every week. Same as under Brendan Rodgers and conceding from corners. 
 

Can there not be a time where the defenders can go direct? and not play a risky pass that gives away a goal. If Martin adjusts the constant need to pass and amends this slightly, build up when you have time, when under pressure go direct. I think we will win more games that way. But to repeatedly give the same goal away, that is stubbornness. A good coach would change that.

Yes, they should have won the game on Saturday and it was extremely frustrating that they didn’t. But we have a young team who have only been playing together for a short time and they still created more than enough chances to win that game comfortably. Hopefully they’ll learn from that.

 

Over the past few seasons, it has been common to hear people say that if only the club got rid of all the lazy dross and focused on bringing through young players, the fans would get behind the team even if the results weren’t always there. Well, the dross have largely departed and we do have young team that includes several academy players—and yes, the results have been patchy. Yet a sizeable chunk of the fans have completely turned on the team rather than try to help them get through games by supporting them. I find that difficult to comprehend.
