Interesting that people are saying we can't afford to pay £2m for a player and yet here we are turning down offers on Souttar.
Perhaps there is a bit more to spend than people think.

No, Nelson injured. Can’t afford to let him go yet

We've been rejecting Sheffield Utd's bids for Souttar to the extent that they've almost given up on him. It doesn't appear that we ever really intended to sell him, and we definitely won't now unless we get at least two more in.

West Ham interested as well. We are playing this right. Nelson was always a risk of transfer, let alone injury

We know Soutter is going, we are just trying to drive the price up.

Yep club captain for me.

Clearly got leadership skills and should be a step above anything in League 1. He owes us a season IMO. Only 27 too so it's not like his career is over. He should have another 6/7 years in him.

Given we've paid his wages for best part of 3 years for him to be injured the most of it, I think it would be pretty shitty of him to force a move with a transfer request.

I understand your point, but from his point of view he was in the Premier League with us and now through our incompetence we are in League One.

If your employer was that incompetent, you knew they were perhaps in significant financial difficulty, you'd see the signs you see every day and find another job, right? I don't blame any player that goes, forcing our hands or otherwise. We made this mess.

People saying we need to keep him now moreso because Nelson has a long term injury.  Isn't that just as good a reason to suggest we absolutely MUST get him out the door now.  Nelson has had bad injuries in recent seasons, looked fit and boom his ACL is fuct.  So given Souttars previous injury and it's reoccurence during recovery, should we be taking the risk on him given he's only played a handful of games since returning?  Are we not risking the same thing as with Nelson?  If he gets injured given his wage and potential market value that's a monumental fxxk up if it comes to fruition.  Is he that good that we should risk it?  We probably aren't getting Faes and Okoli out the door so like it or not they might be the safer bet.

I agree with this. The only two seasons where you can say Souttars played a good amount of games was 6/7 years ago. If the money is right I think it would be the right decision to accept it and move on.

I would love this to be wrong and he stays, captains and plays 40 plus games but I cannot see it happening.

If anyone in their last year has an acceptable offer sell, we need to stop losing sellable assets for free, it's a massive part the reason we are in this mess

Souttar isn't in his last year.

And if the club starts moving in the right direction with momentum we could be a better bet next year in the championship then a lot of teams potentially including Sheff Utd, who seem to be doing a slower version of what we have done. Wouldn’t harm him to do half a year and if it’s all gone tits up go in January

Faes is 100% going to go on loan before the close of the window.

Genuinely think we might sign his brother as a way to keep him and I don’t hate it.

That's like buying a nice big lock for your front door and leaving the back one open.

Thought we'd only given him a 3 & half year deal not 5 & half.

In that case play hard ball all we want to unless we sign a CB to replace him first

Can't be at the front AND back door you have to have a partner to look out for one of them and I wouldn't trust John Souttar to look out the window.
