Very much 'try to get an advantage at any given opportunity' that failed to work, but that's their attitude.

Yeah that's massively disappointing. I mean tbf Cucurella could have said something particularly offensive but looking at both of their body language I didn't get that impression. Not a good look. Sad.

Argentina are a hateful bunch of shithouse players. And yet they are really talented!!

 

They choose to play that way and got what deserved. One shot on target in the 117th minute. I’m so glad they lost.

I've got no time for people like Paredes and Enzo, especially given the latter seems like a nasty little bigot. 

 

But I don't actually mind a bit of aggression and some combative energy. Someone like Lautaro Martinez storming round the pitch like a bull that's been poked is fun to watch and I respect the work rate. He reminds me a lot of Vards. 

 

I like the general physicality I just wish it didn't come with the antics.

It's only really Lautaro that plays with a controlled aggression though. The rest are either nutters (Tagliafico, Romero, Paredes, Simeone etc) or those that don't really have a natural aggression to their game (Messi, Alvarez, Mac Allister etc)

They're genuinely one of the fittest and hardest working squads at the world cup. I know they press with one man less because they're carrying Messi but I still think they gave Spain way too much respect. It's not like Spain have pace in abundance to punish them if they get caught out a bit too high up the pitch. 

 

Baena, Oyazabal, Olmo and Ruiz aren't exactly sprinters and Yamal clearly wasn't 100%.

Maybe fair. Although I'd perhaps challenge Mac Allister. He's more subtle than some of the others but he's definitely not shy of being physical.

It was quite similar to the England game where they wanted to turn it into a fight.

 

England got it wrong by not retaining the ball. Spain just kept them in this position all game and Argentina weren't getting close enough to make those fouls.

 

Argentina knew that if there was only a goal in it that they would be able to get Messi on the ball at some point. They just hoped that he's pull something out of his arse again and to be fair, it's a viable strategy. Probably up until Fernandez got sent off.

Trouble is for me the physicality is nearly always with the antics

Yeah he’s a very snidy one. Loves a late tackle, but in a way where he’s clever about it too. Enough to hurt someone but probably not on the threshold of a red card.
