Also apparently they are the only team to not have a VAR intervention against them despite giving the most fouls away in the whole tournament. I'm sure it's just a coincidence!

Argentina have made a mockery of one of the biggest sporting events in the world and I guarantee fifa will do very little about it!

 

The whole tournament they've been utterly vile, with the constant fouling every match and then add in the Falklands flag, the fighting at full time in the final plus their players turning their backs on Spain when they lifted the trophy.  There is no place for this kind of behaviour on the world stage in football. 

 

They should be banned from competing in the 2030 world cup, but we know full well fifa would not have the balls to do that, especially with it being the 100 year anniversary tournament and one game is being played in Argentina

Any statement from Fifa regarding the behaviour from the Argentina players? No bans or investigations? You just know if this was England the book would be threw at us and have comments like typical English behaviour.

I think pre tournament this is exactly what people were saying. I don't think anybody expected Spain to win it because they haven't got a World Class striker.

 

They haven't got a superstar compared to France or Argentina or even us. Yamal will get to that level, I'd expect.

I don't think this is quite true, I think France & Spain were both talked about as the big favourites

I suspect Argentina will need to go through a real identity shift post-Messi.

 

Lautaro Martinez will have one more Copa America and World Cup and Julian Alvarez will likely step up to that top class bracket but other than those two they are seriously devoid of attacking flair.

 

I think last night was their last chance of winning something big for a while.

If there is anything dodgy going on it will have less to do with bribes from the Argentinian FA and more to do with that slippery **** Infantino wanting to extract as much value out of Messi while he's still got working knees.

It doesn’t matter if their currency is ‘a bag of crap’. The idea that a right-wing government couldn’t or wouldn’t ever try to tip the balance with FIFA is absurd. If something has political value they will find a way. We can’t even rule out that they’ve approached specific referees, though more unlikely.

 

Stuff like this has been done since the dawn of time, it annoys me that people still dismiss it. And Argentina themselves have previous for it.

I don’t think there is any organised conspiracy (not like the Junta’s antics in 1978) but could there be a bit of an unconscious bias from officials?0

 

For some reason you’ve seen some bizarre stuff going on in the last couple of World Cups in Argentina’s favour. Arguably they got way more dodgy penalties in 2022. Is it referees getting star struck by Messi? Is it similar to a ‘big club’ bias that gets levelled at the Prem whe

 

But on conspiracy theories, it’s obvious there’s going to be more and people will be more convinced by them given the favouritism some sides have got in this tournament. For example Ronaldo and Balogun’s reds being ‘suspended’, the way for some reason Qatar and Saudi Arabia both got home advantage without explanation in the play offs. FIFA have allowed a certain level of what could be construed as corruption (I’m putting it lightly) which will only fuel conspiracy theories more.
