What striker would that be though

We'd know if we'd spent the money we've pissed up the wall on agents on building a reliable scouting network.

we arent signing a 20/25 goal striker for 2mil, not a chance

i know some will mention Ballard but they wouldnt have said him last summer....swings and roundabouts all it is

Based on what - we've not seen him play as yet. I don't suppose many thought Danny Simpson would improve our starting XI when signed, but was one of the most consistent Right Backs in 2016

Danny Simpson cost around half the amount yet has always been the better player.

For someone that is likely to get you 10-15 goals?

He's too similar to what we have.

We already have two paceless players that are No 10/winger/striker inbetweeners in Reid and Chaplin. Cullen isn't a bad player but he just doesn't mesh with what we already have. A proper number 9 and a direct winger are the most urgently needed players and Cullen doesn't fulfil ether of those well.

That's 10 years ago when transfer fees were far less, but my point is many thought it a dubious signing, but turned out to be very good. Give the bloke a chance before writing him off, that's all I'm saying.

Wareham almost got 20 last season for relegated Exeter. Most strikers that score 20 goals in a division never have until they do, that's why you have to scout players - there will be plenty of players in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Portugal, the second tiers of Spain/France/Italy etc that are capable of 20 goals in L1 available for a million or so.

I agree

having said that I genuinely hope the move works out if we do "buy" him

considering we have only spent £2 million on Woyo Coulibaly in the last 2 years I would be shocked if we are spending much at all

No way - will be 6 figures and spread out over a few years - his salary will be peanuts as well

hardly a shock that we are after squad players from the championship that have the right attitude and workrate

Swansea signed Jerry Yates for £2.5 mi from Blackpool and flogged him for just over £1 m a couple of years later. Very similar status of a player.

Wareham scored a load last season doesnt mean he will in the upcoming one, same can be applied in regards the point about players from sweden etc, while its all good on paper doesnt mean it will translate to on the pitch,

dont get me wrong id love us to find gems from these leagues but coming here and some of our fans, theyll get written off within 5/6 games cos theyve not scored etc

prime case was Vardy for me, loads of LCFC fans wrote vardy off after his first season.
Id also like to point out, Id rather us go for rough diamonds etc but i see why they are looking at Cullen etc

Some fans clearly aren’t coming to terms with how Russell Martin operates.

Martin mentioned Cullen on his Radio Leicester interview, and specifically classed him as a 9 and wide player.

And Cullen may well be a “False 9” type, but Russell Martin has used numerous players in this type of manner throughout his managerial career.

If Cullen gets played in a wide position, then as Russell said himself, you need different types of players for different games, he also specifically said that he doesn’t want all his wide players to possess pace.

Whether we like this signing or not, Cullen fits in with how Russell Martin likes to operate, but there’s no doubt that some more pace needs to come into this team, I’d be more concerned if we don’t replace Fatawu with a like-for-like.

Any combination of Cullen, Alves, Chaplin just looks far too similar to me, if opposition defences sit deeply and double up on Alves there aren't a lot of options to mix it up.

Cullen and Chaplin score their goals from very similar positions, look:

To make sensible decisions, spend money on people who have a resale value.

We need to create saleable assets.

I'd be happy to give him a chance if he were a striker. We desperately need one yet we're pissing about with attacking midfielders and we simply do not need one.

I'm so far beyond "give them a chance". I'm sick of people taking this stance with the club. Why can't fans point out blatantly wrong decisions?

and how do we create saleable assets.....by creating a winning team/squad

as we saw with a losing squad....some of our players go for peanuts compared to a year ago

You could say that about almost any striker though RE Wareham?

A striker that has scored 19 goals in 40 odd games in this division already for a relegated side is more likely to hit 20 than a versatile 10/striker/winger who's scored more than 10 in a season once. In fact Cullen has only strayed 30+ games twice.

I think the issue is that he's only good up top in a two man strike force, bit like the Ozaki role. If we choose to play a false 9 or use him wide then he could be successful. No Swansea fans are questioning his commitment or work ethic just lack of pace and goals. So he could work in the right system for us but odd player to pay a fee for unless it's absolutely peanuts.

Well he was largely used off the bench last season so I don’t think we will be paying his 3mill valuation per transfer market and he’s supposedly on 4k a week so it’s a small amount to be paying… hopefully

I'll accept it's a wrong decision on evidence. He's not played a game for us yet. Will you accept you are wrong if he scores 10 - 15 goals this season?

im honestly not sure on Wareham if im honest, he might have got 19 goals but hes hardly been linked with anyone(prior to what happened in his personal life)only 1 ive seen is bristol city and thats after the ballard bid was rejected

also like to point out on Wareham, his brother died recently so i highly doubt he'd be open to moving

on cullen i honestly think he'll come to cover a number of positions

But I don't understand why people are writing him off, even before he has signed. He could be another Tony Cottee (albeit much younger)

I hope am wrong, just think he's another BDCR signing, would have preferred us to bring in a proper CF to cover out weakest position.

If he signs I will 100% get behind him, like any City player.

The point is here (what you've probably highlighted unintentionally. Also, I going to spin this positively), Is that we've picked up two highly versatile 'number 10s', both still in their 20s, one a current full international, both on reasonable wages (as far as we can research), for circa £2m !

Yes, we already had Alves in this position - but so what!

Yes we have BDCR in this postion

Fact is we have currently 1 senior winger, Mavididi, and no senior strikers!

The fact that all five of the above mentioned players can cover all the positions across all of the front line is surely a good thing, no? - We'll also have a senior striker coming in.

Some really mental negative takes on this signing. Jezzz. Chill out!

until September 1st....its hard to tell,we might get a fox in the box type of striker(with some pace) in,

pretty sure the club are looking at a few
