People saying we aren't the finished article?? Strap in chaps as it's as good as it's going to get!

Slow, boring, side to side with players that look terrified to have the ball.

Bore off.

Give them a chance.

He doesn’t pass forward. He has two operations. Pass back or bring the ball inside which clogs everything up. He’s left footed, why doesn’t he use it to play forward and get us on the front foot with more urgency? There were three or 4 occasions when he had oceans of space to run forward, but turned back or played a sideways pass.

Have you ever considered the fact that that’s maybe what he is being asked to do by his manager? If he was so shit like everyone in here suggests, I don’t think he would be consistently picked time and time again by various different managers.

He also has good delivery from set pieces, assisted the only goal of the game and hardly lost the ball.

I know we won like some record number of games in a row under Enzo to start the season but the first three or four were far from convincing while everything gelled.

I'm far from a happy clapper and I hate Martin but we've got our main goal threat still to sign and new signings to bring in to the team when they get up to speed.

No call at all to get wound up.

I was reminiscing today about how quickly Enzo got us coached. We lost to Liverpool in preseason but you could see they had got it.

I'm not sure what we have at the moment, but I'm not excited by it.

Didn't watch it and only watched the 1 minute 42 seconds highlights.

Doesn't sound like it was the best game.

What I do wonder, though, is perhaps Martin is doing one of the following two things:

1. Giving the likes of Souttar, Reid and Mavididi enough rope to hang themselves, i.e. if they can't affect games at this level, why would he continue to put his trust in them when he's signing players who can take their place (hopefully at least one CB comes in).

2. Starting the above players while the transfer window is open to give the impression that they are important to us and therefore more likely to command a fee.

Or perhaps I'm clutching at straws.

One thing I do think is that our starting XIs could still look quite different come September.

Can't understand the negativity to be honest. People have been saying we need a striker and we need a CB. Yet Okoli has kept a clean sheet and bagged a worldie. Onto pissing the league now...

They want every pass to be forward, every time a player gets the ball for them to successfully take their player on and for us to swing inch perfect crosses into the box onto a strikers head for a goal each time. I hope this helps.

Very true of what our fans are expecting, I’m just waiting for one of them to give a lovely tactical breakdown of all the changes they would make. The patterns of play they would be setting up, the training sessions they would be introducing, how they would manage the minutes for our players etc. should be fairly easy for someone to explain as we apparently have some pretty intelligent footballing minds in this forum.

Okolis ankle looks like its given out too at full-time...bizarre

He was injured for about half an hour. Not sure why the message didn’t make it to the bench lol

Am I missing something here? First game of the season, new manager different league and players.

We won, probably could have been more entertaining?

But it's going to be a long season so let's just get behind the team, they are going to need us!

I've got blue blood running through my veins, and just hope we can get out of this dreadful league!!!

Some of them make Harvey Price look like Albert Einstein, although I guess that's the same at every club and ours is exasperated by persistent failures and horrific leadership/ownership over the last however many years.

Can't break a League 2 Block and if Northampton had a speedy finisher we'd have lost.

Toothless up front error prone in defence leaving midfielders to carry the team.

If he needs to make a point about no strikers, that’s worrying… everyone knows we need to sign strikers

Yet he send a 3 goslin 4 games striker out on loan before having any replacements - bizarre

Didn’t watch it but they were always going to sit in, we were 3 up at half time pre season weren’t we, I guarantee they weren’t sitting in that game and look at the score.

we will need a plan b for teams who sit in as more often than not that’s what will happen.

get that number 9 in and hopefully the dynamic changes.

One game and almost everybody on here is slating the manager and most of the players!
I think I'll leave it a few games before I bother with this forum again.

We have been slating this manager for years before he came here.  He is footballing kryptonite.   And also those players that took us down without a whimper twice.  This is not an overnight thing.

See you I a few game's time.

It can only get better after today.

That was a horrible performance as a team and some honking performances individually.

BDCR and Stiffy are done here. Mutually bin off Nobby, he will restrict the likes of Alves, Page, Evans and Hutchinsons game time.

Stiffy needs loaning or selling. Hes utter turd…it’s not even funny anymore. Again, like BDCR he will restrict game time of the likes of Watson, Alves and Hutchinson etc.

Okoli is honking on the ball.

LT still made several errors but at least looked fairly competent against L2 opposition.

Id prefer Braybrooke in today’s Skipp role and have Page starting.

Would love to know what your coaching qualifications are and what exactly would you do to improve us?

You don't need coaching qualifications, none of us are football managers, you simply need to pick a better manager than Russell Martin which I think most of us could comfortably do.

Martin has had a better pre season than Enzo. Enzo revisionism for entertaining football is going to hit this forum hard this season!

Okay, so name one then?

I feel people are free to judge today, and they know Martin with his previous teams… honestly did he show he learnt and was willing to adapt? Today was a typical Martin performance, we looked lost at times, nothing upfront and dodgy at the back. One game sure, and maybe we get going… but right now, I didn’t see anything different from a standard Martin team

I keep reading this idea that Martin will 'learn' from his previous exerience and magically become a good manager.   There is zero chance of this.  He is, always has been and always will be a sideways zealot.  That is his whole identity.  If you take that away from him there is nothing left.
