Negativity

Has anyone on these 7 pages mentioned the financial downward slippery slope that next season could bring if they ain’t promoted this season.. 

 
Maybe people are moaning because they don’t want a hefty points deduction next season and another relegation. 
 

Fed up with all this “we’ve been in administration before so everything will be ok” on Twitter, added that robotto said the atmosphere was great yesterday 

 

This is another kettle of fish but I’ve seen so many new kids in the section recently and mine is on his second year of a season ticket. There is always comments of kids should support their dads teams and far too many kids wearing premier league tops etc.. would be gutted if my lad said he didn’t want to go anymore. People try to spur their kids on but it’s difficult when the club is on a downward spiral.. 
 

I don’t agree with booing especially yesterday but i worry about what will happen next year and im sure many others are too..

I think the negativity is born out of frustration that it feels like nothing has changed from years of utter tripe. I was there and felt very frustrated with the way we play. Not the players, the system. I'm so happy to have so many academy players representing the club and being the best players on the pitch. That has to be a source of pride for the fans. I certainly am. 

 

However for me it's the system restricting them. They can play more freely but the tactics don't allow it. I'm hoping that this is just because it's a new blend of new signings and young players. But I believe if they were allowed to go more direct and the movement was better instructed, we could have beaten MK with ease. But it just felt they had the handbrake on. 

 

I didn't boo, and wouldn't but I was definitely highly frustrated. Martin is right it's years of disappointment and not winning games. Start winning and the fans will be back in side. Easier said than done. I just hope it clicks as we are certainly good enough. 

 

I didn't want Martin, but I don't want to be changing managers every 6 months, it's tiring. I hope it works for him, and he seems to have the youngsters on board. 

The system yesterday saw us move the ball forward pretty quickly though? This is what I don't get. Yesterday we didn't play passing for the sake of passing at all.

There were times where players were almost on top of each other, far too often going backwards, there were more than a few occasions where we had the ball and everyone almost stopped. No movement Infront of the person with the ball. Full backs went backwards when a forward pass was on. The striker made some great runs off the defender but we didn't see it and went short. Too many passes in the box, just create space and shoot. 

 

Yes I agree it was better but passing around the back close to goal is a terrible idea and we got caught a few times, luckily they were crap. 

 

That is what is frustrating! I keep seeing it time and time again. Like I say I don't blame the players I blame the instructions. Is it not clear enough, or is that they way were going? 

 

I knew it would be a slow burner with Martin, but this is so frustrating to watch and sometimes dull. Quick one twos to get up the pitch isn't happening too often.

Yesterday and Tuesday's match were a vast improvement on that we witnessed against Burton so maybe there has been a change of heart and a change in tactics. It was a big improvement after the negative tippy tappy football of the past two seasons.

Now we need to work out a way through packed defences and the fact we have not signed a striker of any note is holding us back. That effort from BDCR was pathetic and not worthy of a supposed professional footballer.

No - MK deep blocked us and just let us play our game. Presume the hope was for a smash and grab (aka Millwall or Plymouth in the Enzo season). Ipswich again let us play our game, presumably because they weren't too scared and early in the season were giving 2nd string players a chance to show their worth.

 

Burton and Notts  pressed us and took their game to us, not letting us get into much rhythm playing out the back and starved our midfield.  Whether every team can do this remains to be seen.

 

But i wouldn't use Saturday as a guide to sudden improvement - MK Dons were just tactically very negative, but i suppose as we didnt score their tactics worked.

I’m as cynical as the next yoghurt, but even I think it’s unsurprising to be struggling at this stage in the season. Football is a team sport and this team is now mostly brand new and incoherent, even with so many academy players on board. Actually, it’s that lot that gives this team what it needs to develop and thrive - an identity. I hope RM recognises this and doesn’t just make everyone try to match the football perfection that’s (only) in his head. I expect further struggles and misfires through September, but the class should start to show by the autumn. Partnerships will form. They will begin to anticipate one another (which is where the academy lads have a head start). A couple of wins in the bag, confidence will rise and they will start to find their groove. Playoffs at the least, and if not promoted this year, then if the team stays mostly stable definitely the following year (if we still have a club).
 

We still need a bloody striker though.

Football is simple yet a lot of modern day managers really over complicate it.

 

I understand it’s harder to score when a team just sits 10 men behind the ball BUT you’re very rarely going to score when the ball is constantly played in front of the opposition.

 

How many times yesterday did a player run behind their defence?

The only two that I can remember are BDCR when he was through and ****ed it and Braybrooke when he was through after Bristric had dragged one of their CB's with him. 

 

It's incredibly difficult to get in behind a low block of 5 as the space in behind the back 5 is minute, but also there's such little space to play passes between the lines when the midfield 3 are effectively shutting off any gaps. 

 

We're going to have to get better at a) taking our chances when we create them. B) being able to shift the opposition out of their spacings in the low block. C) being a bit more daring when a space does open up. D) when one of our creative/skillful players does take it past a player, finding the right pass to capitalise.

Maybe it’s me being the forward thinker and sadly it’s not what might happen, but what will happen. We all know administration is a major possibility (not counting a possible takeover in the meantime) which will lead to starting on a minus and transfer embargos. That is without promotion. 
 

End of September will be a clearer picture.. 5 league games, maybe 4 is Wigan rearranged but it’s a tough run of fixtures.. Don’t care how well the players gel, if the tactics ain’t there to win games then that’s an issue. Only time will tell..

Completely agree.

 

I hate making comparisons to Enzo vs Martin football but you could see our attacking patterns of play under Enzo (from day one) but feel that Martin hasn’t got any of that across to the players yet, that’s my very minimal optimism.

 

What I’d love to see cut out is the numerous lofted crosses to a 5ft nothing Reid and no-one else in the box.

 

It all goes back to us not just ignoring a striker position over so many years but a sensible Ndidi replacement, if you have a mobile DM, you can overload more attacking positions.

 

Yet, over recent years we’ve had Winks/Skipp/Soumare offer protection so that obviously hasn’t worked.

Saturday’s performance was a team with promising academy players giving it their all. It’s a very low bar from what it used to be, but this has been demanded for a long time.

I don't think our fans went into the games intending to be negative about them. I was at the Notts game - our fans were pretty good for a while. Then the football unravelled.

 

Likewise the Burton game. Didn't follow it but followed a similar path by the sounds.

 

Unfortunately the owner and his sidekick have taken us to the lowest point in our history (4 times in 16 days I make it now). They've appointed a manager who the fans sang about not wanting, off the back of a double relegation.

 

The fans negativity isn't the problem. I wish it didn't exist, but it does and it does for a reason. The fans will get on board when the club stop taking the piss out of them.

Yesterday wasn't even slightly dull too watch. 

First two games yes. 

Then he dropped the players that can't play that way then we got it forward.

Look, I wasn't convinced by Russell, but I'm open minded, and yesterday was a vast improvement and it's on field those things happen

The scary thing is, he didn’t drop them.

 

Skipp was suspended and Okoli was injured.

 

If Page doesn’t become a mainstay of the starting 11, Martin deserves a chorus of boo’s 24/7.

Ok guys. We all seem to have different opinions on how we move forward in returning to our previous heights. 

 

Could we all agree though that during match times, like 19.45-21.30 on Tuesday v Plymouth that we cheer on this new and young team of ours to victory and save any other issues till later. 🤞
