I mean as a performance I've seen worse but really you need to put 10 men tot the sword, we did not, and we got pressed into making a mistake and conceding a goal, by ten men. 

 

I've said this before but we seem to have our generic game plan and don't put any thought into whether a team is going to play on the counter or press we just seem to think we will be good enough at our game for it not to matter and it's becoming increasingly evident that is not the case. 

 

Fair play to them couldn't believe it when they carried on with a pressing setup when they went down to ten, thought that was going to be an immediate change in setup to low block and counter attack as we looked for a second.

that's true if you're prodding and probing, moving it around reasonably quickly in the final third or at least their half - at that point they need to be set perfectly and move their set positions rapidly. That is exhausting. Watching two centre backs 10 yards inside their own half pass it side to side doesn't require you to constantly shift between set positions, it doesn't draw you into challenges and open space...

Just watched the goal we conceded yesterday and it is so basic … give them the ball and 3 seconds later it’s in our net … 2 players not knowing what each other is doing but before that Faes making the game come to a standstill by just standing on the ball… we were playing against 10 men we should have been all over them not stopping the game completely….absolutely awful

Exactly. But to those like Aiyawatt and Rudkin who don’t really understand football, presumably what Maresca’s team did with the ball and what Martin’s team do look the same?

In all fairness, whilst we absolutely should have won the game and it's pathetic that we didn't given the circumstances, we did have 51 touches of the ball in their box and played more forward passes than backwards. (minor miracle)

Watched the goal we conceded back a few times now and the lazy slow, sideways pass from Faes to O’Hora absolutely threw him under the bus, it was such a needless, unnecessary pass to make and the ball speed was so slow it enabled the Barnsley attacker to press and pressure  O’Hora into making the error. 
 

Absolute needless goal to concede from a passage of play where we overplayed until we forced our own error. So frustrating and needless but for me the blame is more with Faes than O’Hora.

I wouldn't go as far as to blame Faes, as it was pretty poor from O'Hora, in general though the players playing at that pace doesn't help us.

 

I would say the hospital pass by Faes is a symptom of this mind numbing style of football though. How are you supposed to win your duels and out battle your opponents when your tempo has dropped so low that you're literally walking about and passing it to your team mates like that.

 

You could argue that it's on the players to keep mentally sharp, but when you're doing a mind numbing task it's easy to go into auto pilot. Football should never feel like that, but I see it every week when I'm watching football now.

Bang on. I've talked about the number of passes we play vs the opposition. Our players are working 4-5 times harder and within that, the likelyhood of a mistake is much higher. In this instance, Wouts pass is light but thats what happens when you are making your CB's pass sideways on the half way line. Their attackers were patiently waiting for exactly the right moment. 

 

I personally detest this type of play anyway. Its the 'draw them in to create space' stuff we used to see Vestergaard do where everyones backs are to goal, but the slightest issue and you are toast, and if your midfielders are always running around trying to create space they will be knackered in no time. 

 

This is the pass from Wout. I think O'Hora has plenty of time to deal with it better. But their no 8 absolutely nails his chance and Clearly totally does Woyo (who is in space to recieve a pass, not defend). You could argue Braybrooke should be in a better position but the defenders have just spent ages playing sideways and the pass to him is the worst option. The annoying thing there is, if O'Hora can get his head up there's a very decent option to play that over/around the CM that's in front of Sammy and in that channel between the left back and centre back.

 

The fact they're willing to push up like that and leave those options really is damning on the way Russell wants the team to play.

Wout's pass is very, very slow which makes it a lot harder to let the ball run across him and play it out to either Cullen or Coulibaly. 

 

O'Hora absolutely should be able to deal with it but the press from the Barnsley number 8 rushes him.

 

Doesn't help that nobody is moving into space. Pretty much every Leicester player is exactly in these positions by the time O'Hora's pass is intercepted by the Barnsley midfielder.

 

IMO the following mistakes were made.

 

1. The pass from Faes is lazy.

2. Faes doesn't immediately drop off to give O'Hora an option.

3. Coulibaly doesn't recognise the threat of Cleary.

4. Lundstram and Braybrooke do not drop to show for the ball.

5. Thomas is walking back to his position.

 

Literally the only player wanting the ball in this screenshot is Riis because he knows he's 1 on 1 with the defender.

I think the boss needs to adapt his game plan to pass the ball in your own box (I don't know) five or six times, making sure the opposing players are within a toenail of nicking it. Then pass it ten or twenty times while moving up the field, only to trip over a blade of grass, and then run back as fast as you can to try and defend your own goal. Then, rinse and repeat. We have a lot of individual talent, we just don't work well as a team, and that is on RM. His preferred style of play is reminiscent of 'try it once, and if it fails, try it again and again. you know, we may get it right this time during the last game of the season.

Hi. I am a Barnsley fan here and thought you might be interested in a different point of view. I think Leicester have some excellent players but the one who stood out as being a weak link was Wout Faes, who for a multmillion pound player looked slow. Leicester seemed intent on playing out from the back the same as we did last season under Hourihane and taking an earth to get the ball forward. Great if you are Man City with the players their budget can afford but this is league one and players who not of that standard. I know views will vary but that was never a red card and it had the effect of galvanising the reds. I hope Leicester City all the best for the rest of the season (until we come to Filbert Street sorry King Power stadium as it is now)

I wonder if you would have that opinion if it were the other way around, Your lad went above the ball, studs raised into the upper calf of Luke Thomas with no control over his actions. Definite red for me.
