He wasn't world class when he joined us, he was past it. Even in his pomp he was never what I'd call 'world class' despite all his titles. He was certainly good and upped the standards at the time. 

It's all very subjective, but to me, the only truly world class player we've had is Kanté. One could argue Vardy and Mahrez belonged in that bracket, but Kanté was truly exceptional at what he did across all the world's top leagues and nations.

Probably made his money and now doing it for the love of the club, whereas Summerbee and McKinlay did it for their fitness and to then try to get their playing careers back on track I sense!

Ricardo Pereira was also in the conversation as best right back in the league with Walker and Trent Alexander Arnold in 2019. The ACL ruined his career trajectory but he was genuinely exceptional that year.

There was probably an arrangement with both that they'd be paid back in full once the situation cleared. It made for a great story at the time, but let's not kid ourselves - they would obviously have been remunerated in one form or other, which circumvented the rules under admin.

Kante deffo was world class, cost £6million for one season of magic. Madness he went for just £30million.. thanks rudkin 😒

I always suspected that was prearranged for us to give him a season in the PL to prove he was up to it only no one expected us to win the bloody thing.

That should have been sorted sooner, instead it allowed Chelsea to just walk in and sign him.

It was a release clause for Champions League clubs for £22m, and Kante wouldn't have signed for us if it wasn't in the contract, and he had no interest in signing a new contract without a release clause so he would've been left anyway. Chelsea bid £32m,  an extra 10m on top of the release clause, so that they could sign him instead instead of letting another big 6 club get him.
