errrr thats what i meant, it says he is close to signing, i didn't even know that had happened as i've been away for 2 days! I'm gutted, he's so much a better player and i'd hoped we'd extend his contract...

I told you last week that he was in talks with AZ Alkmaar. Trust me this is a done deal.

Would anyone care to hazard a guess at how much Joey earns at City, and how much AZ would offer him. I'm guessing AZ aren't loaded and have smaller support than City - is it simply the prestige of playing in the top flight, or moving back to Holland that appeals to him? I know the purse strings are tight, but surely they can't afford to pay him more than us?

Well informed suggestions only - don't just look at Championship Manager please.

I think he wants to step up a level. Even though Alkmar aren't the biggest club in Holland he'll still be playing in their top division, with the opportunity to win cups and play in Europe.

I think it's his ambitions as a footballer that's swinging this move, rather than finances. He should be fairly loaded after a couple of big moves, and I'm sure he was on a decent wage here anyway.

Good luck to him, he's earned a lot of respect from me for his performances and attitude this season, and I for one will be sad to see him go.

There is nothing official about the whole thing. All we've had is a brief Sky Sports article, which only advises that it's according to reports in Holland. Then we've had a few posts from 'Joey's Uncle', claiming the deal is done, without any valid link.

So I won't even bother thinking about it until something actually happens.

Well Football manager (sorry couldn't resist) claims he earns £3,500 a week, I would think its more then likely more then that Adams was never one to shy away from handing out hefty contracts to players he rated, I'd say about 6,000 or 7,000 at most.

AZ are a fairly small team actaully, and any one who says Joey isn't good enough to play for them obviosuly doesn't know anything about them, they are a team who are over performing. They have alot of unoticed Dutch Fringe players, which is why their doing well. I can understand why there looking at Gudjohnson, they have a couple of promising strikers, and a ageing, but solid a defense. Midfield could be better though, Joey would be a good utilty man to pick up on a free.

in terms of size I think their Stadium holds less then 10,000, but their in the Uefa Cup and they could probabley offer him more then us.

Thats if he's going of course. and im not totally convinced.

Im sorry but how can say you Wesolowski is better when they both play in completly different positions?

I know they play in completely different positions but that doesn't mean one can't be better than the other. Stearman is a very gifted player and will get better and better, i've watched the lad along with Wesolowski for a number of years and I rate Stearman very very highly. But Wesolowski is head and shoulders above any youngster i've seen at Leicester. That's my opinion, others that have watched the lad alot will probably have the same opinion as me. Others that haven't might be sceptical and that's not a bad thing I suppose, but trust me Wesolowski has everything needed to become a top class footballer.

Thanks for having the time to clear this up and explaining your reasons why!

From the Merc:

Going Dutch?

by Andy Mann

Leicester City midfielder Joey Gudjonsson is being linked with a move from the Walkers Stadium to AZ Alkmaar of Holland.

The side managed by Louis Van Gaal and currently third in the Dutch Eredivisie admit Gudjonsson is a "very interesting player" but denied reports that a deal was close.

Marcel Brands, AZ Alkmaar's technical director, said: "Joey Gudjonsson is a very interesting player and we will discuss him," he said.

"But at the moment there has been no contact between the clubs or any offer made."

Gudjonsson, 25, who is in his second season at City, is out of contract in the summer.

Under the rules governing transfers, players reaching the end of their contract are eligible to talk to other clubs and even sign pre-contract agreements after January 1.

Gudjonsson was signed by Micky Adams before the start of last season on a free transfer.

He is one of the few remaining faces from the Adams regime and has been one of City's most consistent performers this term.

The former Real Betis, Aston Villa and Wolves player is City's second-top scorer this season with seven goals.

And it was his cross-field pass which set up Mark de Vries for City's last-gasp winner against Tottenham last weekend.

He will miss the next two Championship games, away to Sheffield Wednesday and at home to Cardiff, through suspension after picking up his 10th booking of the season in the defeat at Crystal Palace.

He is no stranger to Dutch football, having played under Spurs boss Martin Jol at RKC Waalwijk earlier in his career.

Although that hit against stoke (away) ....

And his shot in that same game (with us leading 2-1) that dipped fiercely and smashed against the crossbar. If only that could have gone in... :(

looks like we'll never see him in a blue shirt again but will have to suffer kisnorbo in midfield (though he has impressed me when used in defence)
