Ricey Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Keep all the England vs Paraguay match talk in here I'm feeling confident about today however I have a funny feeling England fans are going to be left gutted after a poor referee decison/performance Where's everyone watchihng the game? Everyone excited?
Stevosevic Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 I can see us getting off to a flyer. No less than 3-0 with crouch bagging a couple. Does anyone know how many England fans are expected in the stadium? they are always our 12th man, but they never help on penalties Come on England, this is our year!
City_4_Life Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Cant wait for the game, i'm just watching it at home with a couple of mates. England to win 3 - 0. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!! :clap2:
Jon the Hat Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 If England score first, 3-0 to England, if they score first 2-1 to England. They will want to slow the game down, make it dull as **** and snatch on e on the break, so we need to keep the pace up, us that switch ball into Crouch dropping for Owen early on and make them play. COME ON ENGLAND!!! LOVE IT!
Bert Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 If anyone is watching the interview with Flintoff and Harmison . . .. How pi55ed is Flintoff?
Daggers Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 2-1 to England after Paraguay score first *quack quack oops*
Daggers Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 flintoff's pissed...........again he has issues... I wonder if he has the number of Gazzas clinic?
Libertine Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Well....that was quite dull in the second half, but we won...
MC Prussian Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Overall, a pretty poor match. Both teams can't score the way they're playing. Where was Owen? Where was Gerrard? Where was Lampard for most part of the game? Apart from a few good displays from Beckham in the first half and a few good shots from Lampard in the second, England somehow just wasn't there today. No game flow, no inspiration, no dedication (for most part), no teamwork. It's as if they were still somewhere else with their heads. You were lucky enough to win through an own goal by Paraguay, a team that failed to convince me for 60 minutes, before it finally started to show glimpses of hope. But they just don't have strikers that are good enough, just like England. Yes, the referee was crappy (and with his constant whistling partially responsible for the lack of speedy play). Yes, the yellow card against Crouch is debatable. But Crouch should finally stop using his hands and wave into other people's faces all the time. The worst match at the tournament so far.
Leicester Lass Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 The start we wanted with the win but again some very unusual tactics by Sven. Nice to see Leicester fans are there in numbers as well, I saw 4 or 5 flags
Thracian Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 I look forward to Manwell's defence of modern football methods. What a mess. A classic exercise in making a thoroughly ordinary side look passable. I've no idea why FIFA don't declare that tackling is completely banned. They are obviously trying to make football as pointless as basketball and what you get as a result is endless unnecessary stoppages. Modern coaches at least England's are boring, tactically predictable and an insult to the game as entertainment whenever the match has any importance and especially when they are leading. The only saving grace was that it took us three minutes to score otherwise we'd have had 89 minutes of sitting on our lead instead of 87. If that's the sort of shit that satisfies us I don't give a toss whether we win the World Cup or not. After match Ray Stubbs talked about a "great first half". Who the hell was he watching? Great? There was not one incident, move or aspect of that performance which was vaguelly great.

Then a dire second half where the midfield seems to go completely awol. Sometimes it seems neeither Gerrard nor Lampard have any trust in the defence so back they go. <_< 2.Inexplicable substitutions. Ref hardly helped the game. It's so dispointing after all the build up and positive talk from players about us going forward to kill off games. Oh well, I'm confident we will improve.
Ricey Posted 10 June 2006 Author Posted 10 June 2006 We played ok in first half but the second half summed up Sven's reign perfectly, sitting back on a 1-0 lead for 45 minutes and making bizzare subtitutions. We were VERY lucky that Svens tactics haven't let us down yet again! Why on earth he took off Owen god only knows, it totally isolated Crouch and left us with nothing upfront. Pleased we've won but worried about the performance.
Daggers Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Shite referee, shite manager, shite substitutions and shite tactics in the second half. Blaming a European summer for the performance is lame. If this is an indication of how Eriksson plans to defend first half leads then we're as focked as we were against Brazil last WC. Dire. Boy, I'm going to do some damage to the kitchen while cooking the kids teatime now! Grr

It worries me that its obvious to everyone that playing a long ball up to Crouch with no supporting striker isn't working, yet still players who are supposedly the best in the premiership carry on lumping the ball up to him.

It's the eternal problem with playing a beanpole striker. We had it at Leicester when Dublin or DeVries played. It's not the striker's fault of course. Look at Beckham. Wherever he was after the goal - at least until he was shut down completely by his oppponent - he attempted a 45-degree high ball even from the deepest positions instead of just retaining possession and working the ball forward down the flank or with passes to feet. Thoughtless.
davieG Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 Festival of football Crock of shite more like, not one redeeming feature. How can anyone say we were excellent in the first half

Thracian Posted 10 June 2006 Posted 10 June 2006 The free kick was good... It still went to an opponent who kindly did the scoring for us and virtually ended the afternoon's excitement.
