Henderson has been given the Director of cricket role full time.

I think this could be a new low

So titch is genuinely just coming in to be a batting coach?

Bit of an odd move to go from an England selector to a batting coach at the worst team in the country.

I know he wants to be close to home but you'd think there would have been a job for him at trent bridge.

Hmmm.. I wonder if we are going to split the coaching? Also 'exciting' signings incoming :P

We’ve got some exciting signings coming in and we’re developing our coaching team, which will help to make us more competitive across all three formats.

For the next few hours i am going to dream that we have done a deal with a Netflix, Amazon Prime type and bring in someone like Virat Kohli in a 24 part series turning around our no hopers with  viewing figures of around 2 billion an episode (and we still fvck up)

Can you watch back last night's meeting on YouTube?

The whole first hour is about the ECB performance review and everybody agreeing with each other.  After that CH says red ball was disappointing/unacceptable, but positives from white ball. They are in talks with Mulder to come back. They will be announcing an exciting new signing in the next week (an experienced bowler below the age level of Chris Wright, with another county who isn't getting enough first team cricket), though if this is Salisbury, I wouldn't call that exciting. He talked about having 8 seamers contracted for next season, with Josh Hull from the Academy, making it 9. My take was that there would be 2 'local' player signings in total as CH called them, which would be announced shortly. Overseas signings would take longer to establish and announce. General chat about having more of a balance between experience and youth as current side is too young and inexperienced, with further mention of a hard winter's work for everyone (though they say this every year). Also said that he had cut the number of contracted players for budget reasons and so there is a pathway for Academy players through the second team and then to the first team. SJ said there was also some 'very exciting' news about the club which they would publicize soon - this could be anything as their interpretation of what is 'exciting' seems to differ from most.

Ryan Sidebottom has left Warks, 33 and had a bowling average of 31.08 but only played 20 FC matches.

I'd be dubious about him. Good enough but always crocked.

I have a certain amount of insight. Not ridiculous amounts but certain nudges and winks etc etc.

I really wouldn't get too excited guys. In my view we start the season weaker in the 4 day game than we did this year. When we finished bottom.

50 over/ 20 over.... argument we are stronger.

Can't really complain too much about the ECB messing with the red ball format when we have zero interest in actually competing in it

Great.

Could pick up Adam Blake from Kent, Mckerr from Surrey,  Michael Cohen from Derby or Liam Hurt of Lancs all available.

Even Ian Cockbain on White ball to replace Lilley.

I mean we won't do this but look at their records

Don't want Liam Hurt played for the 2nds for a couple of years very average bowler Just been reading about a cricketer called Adrian Shanker who played about 10 years ago Nico would have given him a 3 year contract

At least.

I remember him now you say. Doesn't bring his arm over properly?

Mckerr be a good bet.

Do we conclude that someone else is leaving then? Maybe no Chris Wright next season?

Starting the red ball season in a worse state than the one just gone is an unpleasant thought. I think if you compare our signing/releases so far:

Budinger for Azad seems to me to be a pretty clear downgrade in red ball and upgrade in white ball. Though Azad averaged about 28 this season so Budinger should be aiming to better that.

Finan at an early viewing looks superior to Mike when it comes to his red ball bowling and whilst Mike was capable of some useful rearguard batting displays he was hardly a regular contributor of runs. Finan is though an unknown quantity in white ball where Mike was much improved last season. Finan obviously still pretty unproven but Mike's bowling was often so hideously expensive that I'll be optimistic and say he's an upgrade.

So overall I think I'd put us about level in that I feel Azad is a loss but Finan hopefully a real find.

Sakande, Evans, Bates, Bowley, Griffiths and Rhodes are sadly no real loss at all and if anything is there anyone left who would be a waste of a pick the way Rhodes was at 3 for our first few games? So his going should strengthen us!

Much depends on the overseas signings, realistically despite Hendricks form in the one day cup he was abysmal in the Championship so we'd need to go some to not upgrade there.

Mulder batted very well but again underwhelming with the ball in the four day games. Would welcome him back though for another crack!

If Taylor is half as good a batting coach as he was a batter then we'll surely see better returns from a young batting lineup including some combination of Steel, Welch, Patel, Kimber, Swindells, Scriven and Evans who have all batted well at one point or another. Ackermann and Hill remain solid contributors.

Ah the optimism of the close season is upon me already, I think we could even draw half a dozen games next season.
