Craig Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Mattock Joins England SquadCity youngster Joe Mattock met up with his England under 17s team-mates on Sunday ahead of next month's European Championships in Belgium. The 16-year-old was part of the Leicester first team side that gained a 1-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday. Mattock has now made two senior starts for the Foxes, after he was handed his full debut in the 1-0 victory over Preston North End the week prior. And he will now be hoping to continue his recent run of form when the European tournament kicks off on May 2. England face Iceland in their opening Group B game on Wednesday, before taking on the hosts two days later. Their final group game is against Holland on May 7. The top two sides in each group - France, Spain, Germany and Ukraine make up Group A - will qualify for the Semi-Finals. Mattock's inclusion in the squad means he will not be available for Sunday's final Championship game of the season against Wolves. However, Danny Tiatto is available once again after serving a three-match suspension. England squad in full: Jonathan Franks - Middlesbrough Daniel Gosling - Plymouth Argyle Henri Lansbury - Arsenal Joseph Mattock - Leicester City Victor Moses - Crystal Palace Rhys Murphy - Arsenal Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi - Chelsea Krystian Pearce - Birmingham City Tristan Plummer - Bristol City Nathan Porritt - Middlesbrough Daniel Rose - Leeds United Tommy Smith - Ipswich Town Alex Smithies - Huddersfield Town Jordan Spence - West Ham United Jason Steele - Middlesbrough Tom Taiwo - Chelsea Daniel Welbeck - Manchester United Michael Woods - Chelsea From OS.

Bluefoxtim Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Bollocks will he, he's toilet. Who'd you suggest we play on the wing then? Hughes?
Mort Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Who'd you suggest we play on the wing then? Hughes? Danny Tiatto :w00t:
Thracian Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Bollocks will he, he's toilet. Here we go again. Such comments rank alongside others on the forum claiming the whole team is shit when in fact, while agreeing that the word is relative, the team, with the staff avalable, should easily be mid-table or a bit better. I'm going to be interested to see the effect a new attack-minded manager has on Porter and, indeed, others in the team including, perhaps, Fryatt because we really have blunted all our offensive arrows this season. Even accepting a cautious approach, our last two and a half matches has been like watching the flowers bloom in spring. Suddenly Logan, Stearman, Wesolwoski, Newton, Hughes and Cadamarterihave all started to blossom again. Mattock has been given his place in the garden and there've been signs that Gradel, Sheehan and the recovered Porter might be added to the display. Teams the fans are selecting are wearing a smile and the promise of some football. What a pity the season's ending and we can't see how great the further effect might be. Porter's not shit any more than some of the others I've listed.
The Reverend Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Porter can do a job, lets not forget that. Hopefully he comes in and has a good last game performance to go positively into pre-season. Shame for Mattock from our point of view, but good in his eyes. Good luck Joe!
London_Fox Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 I'm pleased for him. It's good experience and i'm sure it will give him a boost going into pre-season. Might mean that we see one of the other youngsters promoted or Cadders starting and playing with Hume and Fryatt.
mancunianfox Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Just hope he doesn't become a bigtime charlie and f**k off to a big club like Leeds.
Daggers Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Porter can do a job, lets not forget that. It depends if he has any GCSE's and a working alarm clock I guess

Joe. Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Fair enough to be honest. He'd be mad not to take the opportunity to play for his country up.

I've mentioned Mattock lots of times as have many others. I think it was around October/Novemeber I also mentioned that he was rated higher than Sheehan by some good judges within the club. I've also mentioned that he's on the fast track now.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Levi is fine by me. Needs nurturing and the right type of support but a good Leicester lad with a big heart. Lineker was pants when he first came into the City team. Give Levi a chance and he'll prove his worth.

Milky Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 The one time a young player actually comes through with potential, and he's missed the boat. Harsh.

Thracian Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 *Chuckle, yeah you've mentioned him, comments including that you'd rather play Sheehan and you don't believe his ready for first team football!! (Thracian selective memorey kicks in, prepare for denile) As you well know I've mentioned Mattock as an outstanding prospect on many occasions and it's been obvious he was heading for the first team for months. I did say he was probably not quite ready and that I'd rather play Sheehan (at left back) but Mattock wasn't selected at left-back and Sheehan was named as, presumably, the preferred left-back sub in an earlier game. Since that remark circumstances have changed dramatically and you can now be sure Mattock will continue to get opportunities. None of this combats what I've said at all. I have consistently been enthusiastic about him while pointing out that he's inclined to be volatile with his colleagues and one or two other areas he might improve. That he's not been selected as first choice in his proper position as left-back suggests the manager feels the same and has been pleased to introduce him in a slightly less vulnerable role. His response has been terrific and shows how determined he is to take his opportunities when they arrive. It shows the club has long had a perfectly good alternative left back - two in fact - and never once needed to play Maybury in that position as I also said on many, many occasions and actually named Mattock/Sheehan in my preferred choice of team at such times. And you talk about my selective memory!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt he make his debut against birmingham city unless i was watching his twin brother with the same name
