Thracian Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Im going to say it how it is.At the back end of the season before last Matty got service and on the back of that Matty and Iain formed a partership that got goals (im sure our scoring rate for the last 8-10 matches was in line with the promotion pushing teams). Im not going to go into the shortfalls of last season and the reasons for that, but in summary we were unfit and all playing below par. When one is low in stamina and lacking physical strenhth one is more injury prone. With an improved level of fitness within the squad this season, coupled with decent service i think Matty Fryatt can be a valuable member of a succesfull squad/football club at this level. I am hoping he will be the elusive 6 yard box striker we will need to call on this season. No blood no thunder just be in the right place at the right time. Any striker will do better with the improved service of City's new team. What Fryatt has to do is show he has the strength and fitness to take advantage consistently. And to develop the wider range of abilities a top level striker needs. Whether he'll get the chance at City now remains to be seen.
MBK Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Bid Accepted Preston OSPosted on: Mon 23 Jul 2007 Manager Paul Simpson has revealed that the Club had a bid accepted for a player before heading out on their pre-season tour, but admitted it was unlikely to be finalised in time for the player to join them in the States. Speaking from the team's camp in Portland, the North End Gaffer also told the official website that talks with the player had already taken place and that he hoped a deal could be concluded when he is back in England. "We had a bid accepted the weekend before we came out here," said Simmo. "And we've already talked to the player. He is currently still training with his club back in England and thinking over the offer we have put to him. "I'm hopeful something can be sorted when we get back and that we can add him to our squad. We have put an excellent offer on the table to the Club and the player, the Club have accepted and hopefully the player will do the same." That's it then. Tata Fryatt.
Thracian Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 That's it then. Tata Fryatt. That's the way I read it. Fryatt is halfway through his contract and with Hume plus DJ Campbell already in place - and the club knowingly chasing at least one other striker - you cannot imagine Fryatt being a regular. He won't relish that and, while he could recover his scoring touch and stay fit, he doesn't necessarily seem like a Martin Allen player anyway. Strong, fast, aggressive and hard-working when we've lost the ball is more the Martin Allen mould than Fryatt's individualism. Put simply, when someone like Hume hits a scoring drought he still makes a valuable contribution to the team with his all-action endeavour. We've got alternative young players can do the Fryatt bit - people like Billy McKay and Eric Odhiambo who are perhaps better all-round team players anyway. But they're a bit young yet to be as combative and unsettling as Hume or even the much maligned DeVries and Hammond. Fryatt would be much more guaranteed the limelight he wants at Preston than Leicester and if he's more to their style he could do well. I'd be surprised to see him ever become a MA favourite so, to me, a move should be mutually beneficial - and should help further finance MA's own plans - though some fans will weep about what might have been whenever Fryatt finds the net.
breadandcheese Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 That's it then. Tata Fryatt. Sounds like it is, which is a shame. I don't know definitively whether it was more fitness than attitude that hindered Fryatt last season or vice versa. All I know is that a lot of players underperformed with Kelly in charge. Allen has a different style and seems a better motivater, so I would hope that we see a few marked improvements next season. Fryatt is one of these people in my book. He certainly has ability as he showed at home against Derby when he came on in the second half and scored. His run for the goal, his poise and finish (even digging the ball out from under his feet when the ball got stuck under his feet to create the chance). I don't think we have anyone else who could score a goal like that (obviously I've got to reserve judgement on whether DJ could score such a chance till he's played a number of games for us). If we sell Fryatt, I can see him banging goals away for Preston and I think he would be a decent replacement for Nugent at £1.5 mill. In fact, when we played against Preston, whilst Nugent is a better player than Fryatt, was he abundently more skillful and a better finisher in a different class to Fryatt ability-wise? Or was it more down to fitness and confidence? I'll be sad to see Fryatt go because I'd like to see him given till January, with a full pre-season and back to full fitness. It's a big call for Martin Allen. He has now had a good long look at Fryatt as well as having managed Mcleod, so if he decides to sell Fryatt and buy Mcleod at similar prices (if paper talk is to be believed), then it's a big call.

Haven't they had a bid accepted for darius henderson?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Haven't they had a bid accepted for darius henderson? Yeah, that's what I was thinking. No point jumping to conclusions on this one.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Darius Hendersen, theres another player whos better than DJ and we could of got for less.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Darius Hendersen, theres another player whos better than DJ and we could of got for less. I don't rate him. I bet DJ scores more than he does next season. Nailed on.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 I don't rate him. I bet DJ scores more than he does next season. Nailed on. Depends where Henderson is playing.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Depends where Henderson is playing. Even if he's playing up front/for Watford - whatever you meant - I bet DJ scores more goals.
Master Fox Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 I reckon Matty Fryatt’s favourite food is cheesy hot dogs, with extra cheese
Thracian Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Maybe we should email him and find out what's going onhttp://www.icons.com/fryatt/home.html He certainly doesn't seem ecstatic about the idea of remaining at Leicester judging by that. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if Saturday represented his last appearance.
Master Fox Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Fryatt's not leaving by the way. I heard he is leaving, and we're going to celebrate that fact.

I've heard that Preston aren't even that interested in him and that Martin Allen isn't looking to sell him. So you'll be surprised.

THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007  Don't know what to have for lunch, mexican chicken baguette with cheese and mixed peppers, sausage, bacon and egg breakfast baguette or a spud with chilli. Any thoughts? I know this is slightly off-topic but Fryatt reminded me of Fry-up - food - what to have for lunch!
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Everyone who wants him to go seems to have inside info that he's leaving. Then the peope who want him to stay seem to have inside info that he's not. , someone is telling alot of big fibs.

Time will tell but if MA gets the guy back to his best I won't be sorry. We need a minimum of four/five capable 15-20 goals a season strikers and if he sticks around to be one of them I'll have no complaints. In fact I couldn't iamgine MA keeping him around on any other basis.

Master Fox Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 I've heard from someone at Leicester that Fryatt won't be leaving as it stands. Someone in Leicester told me if stay’s he’ll be sitting in the stands all season.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 I must say I'll be surprised if someone forks out over £1million on him.
breadandcheese Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2609333,00.html Are Preston about to get Fryatt? In any case, a mystery club have accepted an offer from them for a mystery player!. Bit of a hyped up non-story at the moment.
