The Foxes have signed Stephen Clemence, but Campbell's proposed move to the East Midlands has stalled over the asking price. Leicester were prepared to pay around £1.75million for the duo, with Campbell rated at £1million, says the Birmingham Mail. But Blues are seeking at least another £1million on top of that sum for the striker.

Master Fox Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Interesting last sentence about maybe switching our attention to Fowler... WHo would you guys want, DJ or Fowler?? Both, Get rid of Fryatt

Mort Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Interesting last sentence about maybe switching our attention to Fowler... WHo would you guys want, DJ or Fowler?? I'd go with Campbell, I'm not convinced Fowler "has it" (what ever "it" is) anymore... Campbell (despite injuries) was pretty decent last season and would be a good signing, that said would be happy to see us go in for both, with Fowler on a short contract (maybe farm Fryatt out on loan for the season).
City Fan Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?k...172007309378731 Clemence set to clinch City deal by Bill Anderson Leicester City expect to seal Stephen Clemence's move from Birmingham City today. City faced competition for the 29-year-old Blues midfielder and had an earlier offer rejected. Terms are set to be agreed today but, while City are making no comment until everything is signed and sealed, St Andrew's boss Steve Bruce believes it will go through. And he praised Clemence for his contribution to Birmingham's promotion back to the Premiership. Bruce said: “It wouldn't surprise me if a deal was done by the end of the day. “It's a tough one for me with Clem. The one thing Clem wants to do is play football. He was the player of the year last year but I now cannot guarantee him that he will be my No.1 choice. So I have to be fair to him for what he has done the last past five years. “I will never get a better pro or a nicer person or a better lad, but they (City) can give him three or four years and I'm not going to deny him that opportunity.†City boss Martin Allen was waiting to hear how the negotiations were going for the player who could be set to be the new captain. Allen is concentrating on the on-field pre-season build-up and said: “I have delegated all that to other people and we are always trying to improve the strength of the squad with new players.†Whether Clemence, who would become Allen's 11th signing of the season, will arrive in time to take part in one or other of the two behind-closed-door friendlies arranged at the training ground for today, remains to be seen. City start with a clash against Kettering, then follow that up with a match against Rushden & Diamonds to give everybody a chance to show the new manager what they can do. That will include winger Kevin Lisbie, who has been released by Charlton and has accepted City's offer to take part in training. The same offer was made to Aston Villa's Lee Hendrie, but he has not yet taken City up on it, although the offer remains open. For the moment, though, Clemence is the one making the big move, with City's interest in Birmingham striker DJ Campbell still high, so another new arrival could soon be on the cards.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 July 2007 Author Posted 11 July 2007 I really hope this convinces a few more people how lucky we are to have Milan. One of the promoted teams' Player Of The Year for crying out loud. To even have enquired, never mind convinced Clemence to drop back into the Championship after promotion takes some real balls. One or two people seem to be a bit blasé about it because Bruce has said publicly he can't guarantee him regular first-team football but it'd still be a real coup. Fingers crossed he will be unveiled ASAP. Also, I've got a feeling that someone mentioned Clemence a couple of months ago and was roundly derided for suggesting a player out of our reach. :D

But we should all pat ourselves on the back becasue it is the fans that made him buy the club.
Blue Bob Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 2 Million for Dudley. **** no. I am with you on that one. £2 million is a Billy Sharp and 20+ goals a season. Not sure you would get the from DJ. Wouldnt say he has a massive record at this level though in fairness he started his career very late.

I'm not saying DJ is worth £2m or anything but to be fair to him he has a goalscoring record and a pretty good goals to minutes ratio in this league unlike Sharp who could still turn out to be a flop (although highly unlikely).

I agree, but my faer is most of that is at non-league level 83 goals in 109 appearences is excellent. But if he is so excellent why did he only get 15 starts at Birmingham the rest 17 as sub and then 9 goals. Not such a good ratio. I appreciate it is a lot tougher at this level but Brum bought him for £500k and after a season when he scored 9 goals he is worth £2 million??? Sorry but that is too much of a profit for the level of performance he has given.
Cheese Me Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Interesting last sentence about maybe switching our attention to Fowler... WHo would you guys want, DJ or Fowler?? Fowler like a shot. Can't believe anyone is questioning him. He would without a doubt be immense in this league. DJ seems very overpriced for what he's achieved. I'd prefer McLoud for the money being talked about.
Joe. Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 If Brum want £2 million for Campbell they can feck off to be quite honest. I'd definitely go for Fowler over him, and to be honest I don't think the choice would be hard to make at all in terms of ability. Fowler would be a top signing, a coup if you like, and would do very well for us I think should he get the service.

To be fair Brum had Vine, Bedtner, McSheffrey, Jerome and Forsell as well as DJ, so it shouldn’t suggest that Campbell is anything less than a very accomplished championship striker… his lack of starts was a combination of injury and the fact that Brum had an absolute wealth of strikers to choose from. Cant really compare it to the competition he’d get from a strike force of Cort, Fryatt and Hume.

Brum got promoted with that and we have nothing like that strike force!

DJ is a useful little player but I wouldnt have thought that he had a better all round game than that gypo. £750K is plenty for little DJ but I would rather have RF on a free to be honest.
sdb Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Is Clemence supposed to be announced today? seems to have gone ominously quiet. got a bad feeling he's gonna end up somewhere else -- charlton or the like then again a few formalities could just be underway ...what a pointless post!
