DJ Campbell to come?

FFS why can't they be satisfied with Todorov, M Bent, Varney and Iwelumo. Piss off Pardew.

i think signing Dj might mean the exit door for Fryatt.

i dont think its a case of us wanting to sell him but him wanting to leave. Kind of like the irish eeejit who went to charlton

just speculation. no evidence for this.

I think you'll find with McCarthy, we effectively moved him out the club. Yes, the management would have been happy for him to stay and offered him a new contract, but they were not bothered about him leaving.

Dont forget that DJ played under MA at Brentford and that we have signed two of his former team mates in N`Gotty and Clemence so that may tip any deal in our favour and not Charltons. Im not sure we need another little man upfront having got Hume already and Fryatt as his replacement if injured or suspended. I`d much rather we spent the money on a big forward and maybe grabbed Fowler on that free as another small striker.

Can't see this posted anywhere but delete if it has been.

Birmingham striker DJ Campbell is “very close†to becoming Leicester City's 12th signing of the summer, according to manager Martin Allen.

As City finally put the finishing touches yesterday to the drawn-out £750,000 deal for their 11th signing, Stephen Clemence, Allen revealed that Campbell could soon be following his Birmingham City team-mate to the Walkers Stadium.

The 29-year-old Clemence went through medical checks yesterday and was being unveiled this morning by Allen, who said his main emotion was one of relief.

He said: “It has taken a long time and I feel relief more than anything that it has finally happened.

“It was around three weeks ago that the club began negotiations and it just seemed to drag on and on. But now I am delighted Stephen has joined us.

“He is a good, experienced player who is ambitious to do well for us. He was the captain and player of the year in a side which won promotion and I am sure he will be a big asset to the squad.

“There are some young players in the squad who will benefit from his experience.â€

Clemence himself is looking forward to the challenge, the same one he faced at the Blues - helping a side towards promotion back into the top flight.

And, echoing his manager's sentiments, Clemence said: “I am glad it has been done at last.â€

Allen would not confirm that Clemence would be City's new skipper, remarking only that he would be “a candidate for the captaincyâ€.

Clemence is eager to join up with his new colleagues - and also echoed his manager's feelings about the deal finally being completed.

Clemence said: “It has been dragging on over the last few days, but I am here now and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“This is a big club. Obviously I have played against them many times and they are very well supported.

“A new manager has come in, backed by the chairman, and you can see they are going to have a real go this year.â€

Clemence joins up with his former Blues team-mate Bruno N'Gotty, who was in the first batch of new signings alongside Danish keeper Jimmy Nielsen at the start of last month, and the ex-Birmingham contingent could increase to three soon.

If the move for Campbell comes off, the total transfer fee for him and Clemence is sure to be through the seven-figure barrier, with the Birmingham Post reporting it at being £1.75million.

That thought has crossed my mind.

And I think this might add some credence to the thought.

"Hello - this is my first post on TB - I hope you treat me kindly ! I have regularly posted on Foxest**k - but their recent policy of not reporting on 'rumours' - even well substantiated ones - means I won't be putting any news out through them for the future !

I am a freelance sports journalist, based in Bedfordsire and have good contacts with all the League clubs in the area - but particularly Luton & MK Dons. I was (I think) the first to post on a City fans site, that Martin Allen was in talks with Mandaric about taking the City job (I must admit though, it was me who said Mike Newell had been lined up by MM in January - but he had, honest !). The story below is one I passed onto the Express last night - and formed part of their article this morning.

Anyway, the word from MK Dons last night (Paul Ince's Assistant, no less) was that Leicester have provisionally agreed an initial fee of £1.2m (rising to £1.5m with appearances and caps), for Izale McLeod, IF THEY SELL MATTY FRYATT. I immediately made a few calls to journo colleagues around the country - and a contact at the Bolton Evening News told me that he had heard that Preston have had a bid of £1m turned down for Matty 2 days ago - and are now considering 'upping' that to £1.2m (apparently Rob Kelly has persuaded Simpson of the wisdom of the deal). We await developments !

In the minority on this one but it's a yes from me. I think Izale's physicality will suit the style Allen will play much better than Fryatt.

I find it hard to believe Kelly has recommended Fryatt though after last season. Fryatt hardly looked like he wanted to play for Kelly.

oh wow. so do you think we will be signing dj AND mcleod? it seems the dj deal is as good as done.... to get mcleod as well will be very interesting. our team ( obviously) will have a completly new look to it... and with Hume buzzing around we will have a lot of pace in it.. very direct and i can just see hume feeding these guys all day long.. I think Hume will thrive too because you have to admit there were some games when it all seemed to be on what hume can do and what could he create...

im starting to get excited... can you tell? lol:thumbup:

True but he did see what he did the season before under him and he feels Simpson could get the best out of him

mcleod is growing on me too. you can see exactly the sort of team we are assembling and i think he will fit in to it well..

Am i right by saying that Mcleod has pace? I feel this will be more of an essential asset to us this season as Fryatt lacks that. I can see the big target man for a flick on to a quick striker being employed, thats why he has signed Cort and Sappleton, also Allen has been impressed with DeVries and could also come into contention.

I would be happy with either DJ or Mcleod but wouldn't want both. They seem similar players to me, big quick forwards who lack a little bit of skill and neat touch. I wouldn't want to see them playing upfront together.

Fryatt is frustrating because he has the ability. His goal against Derby at the Walkers showed what he can do, the question is why it didn't happen last season, whether it was down to injury or motivation. If he is fit and motivated, there is no doubt that he offers something different to the other strikers we currently have.

oh wow. cort, sappleton, de vries, fryatt, dj ( counting him in the team already. i know. dangerous of me)

one of them has to go if we want mcleod... and of course it will only be de fries or fryatt going

I don't think that having a big squad will affect team morale at all. I could see most of our new signings (kishishev, Clemence, Kaabi, Nielsen, N'Gotty, Chambers in particular) gaining first team experience most weeks. Just because we have signed alot of players, it doesn't mean that they all want first team football. I doubt that Johnny Hayes will get sucicidal if he isn't an ever-present this season. Also, bearing in mind that we are bound to get a few injured players, we need a decent backup for every position.

As for Campbell, I think the arrival of two ex-Birmingham teammates, and the fact that Allen managed him at Brentford, will give up the edge over that nob-ed Pardew.

Neither of them are that tall. Campbell is 5 ft 10 and McLeod is 5 ft 11. I'm surprised actually, I thought Izale was taller and DJ was shorter. lol

He was on the money with the appointment of Allen. The Mail said that DJC is our man with the clubs just haggling over money. He was withdrawn from their friendly this week along with Clemence - make of that what you will...Birmingham Mail - not Daily Mail.If I ever read the Daily Mail someone can castrate me and feed me my cock in a bap for supper.

Really?!!! I've always thought of them as taller, 6 foot plus.

In that case, we can't have two short a*ses playing upfront together

i'd rather have a big squad than 16 pro's on the books. We'll have 2 teams this year and players are really going to have to perform to keep there places. If their not happy with a bit of competion they can f**k off.

It is not a matter of whether we can tell them to f**k off or not. And who said anything about 16 pro's?

Disgruntled players can soon have an adverse effect on team morale and that can cost points. I am not, at this stage, saying that will happen but I'm beginning to be concerned about the potential for it.

TPH doesn't think we've got a big squad. But it's starting to read that way to me. It's already bigger than last season in terms of realistic contenders and there are still one or two remaining weaknesses.

I see no merit to a squad that is bigger than what we need to do the job properly.

The re-installed reserves team gives a little leeway but I would still like to hear if the more senior players who are not in the first team are going to be keeping match fit in the reserves or whether the team will continue to be overwhelmingly used for youth development.
