Thracian Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007    Stay off the Boddington's during the afternoon Thracian. For one last time at what stage during his professional career has Porter shown he was even close to the standard required for where we want to be. He didn't even make the trip up here, he is not in the plans unless there is a bout of bubonic plague. If you think either Mattock or Newton are better attacking options than Porter it's you that's been on the heavy stuff - and I must admit a good malt is always tempting.
l444ry Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 It was only a poxy friendly. The result is as about as important as the previous poxy friendltes.

I don't think there is anything unimportant about friendlies - they are exactly the sort of games where you can see potential problems and perhaps do something about them in good time.

Agreed, but we don't know what Martin Allen was working on in this match - so it is quite pointless worrying about things we know little about.
General Smuts Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 He impressed you because you were with Thracian. Fact. There was the little fact that he was quite good in the last game i saw him play in - Hinckley that led me to be impressed by him actually. Thracian didn't actually even talk to me about Sheehan that much.
purpleronnie Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Is it only me who dosen't rate DJ Cambell at all?

STUHILL Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Is it only me who dosen't rate DJ Cambell at all? I prefer DJ to Carl 'sicknote' Cort! Im not too bothered about this result. I did however like the idea of winning all our pre-season games and this was the first proper footballing side we've played and we LOST. But sometimes you can learn a lot more from a loss than from a Win. I think more than anything, it will give MA and MM a kick up the backside (if needed) just to remind them that their work is far from complete and not to get complacent with the previous good results. If MM was 50-50 over splashing more cash on other targets for example, a loss like that could tip him in to spending again.
Raj Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Letting a goal in,in the first minute?? Sounds like the goalie must still have been in Ladbrokes putting his bet on!!!! Oh...Nielsen....erm....ok....sorry......
DB11 Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 What MA was true, at least they learnt about it know rather than against Blackpool!
Hawkers Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 HT: Kilmarnock 1-0 Leicester CityPosted on: Sat 28 Jul 2007 Killie took the lead with just 50 seconds on the clock - Gary Wales slotting home past Jimmy Nielsen in the City goal. City's first real effort on goal came with 15 minutes on the clock. DJ Campbell threaded a neat ball into the path of Iain Hume, but his shot from the edge of the area fall wide of the target. Allan Johnston made room for a shot on the edge of the City penalty area with 23 minutes on the clock, but Richard Stearman was on hand to make a strong block. James Chambers came close 10 minutes later, but his cross-cum-shot fell just wide of Combe's left-hand upright. Milky Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 No we didn't A game of football lasts 90 minutes, no more no less. The ball is actually only in play for about 50 minutes. Quite a remarkable stat when you first see it.

Thracian Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Independent assessment of the match from Granite Fox on Talking Balls:. Could not believe the boos at half time - it made me and my brother-in-lawe laugh it was that ridiculous. As Jeff said, it was the pisshed up brigade at the back the boos came from. I also sat next to a right moaner - I don't know why they bother to go. DJ was a complete waste of money, we were in another relegation battle and it was going to be a long and miserable winter as far as he was concerned - some people are not happy unless they are moaning. It was one of the worst games of footie I have seen in a long time, with neither team really threatening. Good finish from Wales in the first minute when we totally switched off from a free kick. Other than that I think they had one other shot in the first half that was blocked by Stearman and that was their last attempt on our goal from what I can remember. City were poor and disjointed, but much the better team in the second half and missed chances costs us. Hume (2), DJ (1) and N'Gotty (1) all had really good chances and missed by a long way. Chamber came the closest in the first half and not sure if it was a cross or a shot! Ratings for the players: Neilsen 5 Had nothing to do, but did nothing wrong the limited times he was called on Stearman 5 Was very vocal, did some good defensive work, but also made some mistakes Chambers 5 Looked poor at times at left back, but played better in the 2nd half (esp after switched to right back) N'Gotty 6 Thought he did well, but tired a bit towards the end and made some distribution errors and missed a great chance from a corner McAuley 7 Thought he had a very solid game (one crap shot though) Newton 3 Busy fool, lots of energy and lots of errors and poor decisions Mattock 5 Started really well, but got worse as the game went on Kish 7.5 Thought he was our best player - did the simple things very well. Clemence 5 Started very well, but went off the boil in the 2nd half and gave the ball away a lot Hume 6 Started very well and for once earned some of the over the top praise he gets from our fans. Missed two great chances though and faded a bit before he was taken off DJ 3 Didn't get much service and started fouling a lot. Had one great chance and put it well off target Subs: Sheehan 2 I would have liked to see more of him in the team, I thought we had good balance when he was playing (briefly) and looked dangerous down the left. He was subbed after getting booked for a very crude tackle on Sylla (ha ha) Weso 4 Very poor. Got knocked off the ball easily and the end product wasn't there Fryatt 5.5 Showed some nice touches occassionally and got no help from the ref (who was a homer and very poor) de Vries 5.5 Got some rough treatment, but held the ball up well when played to feet - no real chances though __________________
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Playing James Chambers at left back is a daft idea and the sooner Martin Allen relises that the better.

Ric Flair Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Am I right to be concerned that Weso played on the right wing after he came on? Strange choice. Anyone shed any light?Otherwise not much to worry about, as long as they're working hard. We didn't have any other right wingers in the squad and Wesolowski has played on the right for the academy for a few seasons. Sounds like he had a poor time out there on Saturday though.
