A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Posted on: Fri 31 Aug 2007

This has been an extremely difficult few days for the football club and our loyal supporters. For those of you that know me well I have always attempted to be transparent and open about every issue that directly affects the club on and off the field.

Obviously the events of Tuesday night at Nottingham Forest were distressing enough for all concerned when our first team player Clive Clarke collapsed in the dressing room at half-time and required emergency medical assistance to keep him alive.

I am somewhat relieved to report that Clive is making steady progress and I'm sure everyone connected with this football club wishes him well and a rapid recovery.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear those unfortunate circumstances bore no relation to the subsequent departure of Martin Allen and his coaching staff the following day.

As you may have noted on the club's website earlier today we have initiated legal proceedings against a national newspaper following a disgraceful and inaccurate article that attempted to tie the two incidents together.

Such reporting is an absolute disgrace. At no time did the reporter connected with the story attempt to clarify any of the accusations made in the article and if he had the report would never have been published.

I am not naive and are well aware that people read this and assume it has credibility when none exists.

Our medical team and the emergency services were heroic and undoubtedly saved Clive's life.

At no time did Martin Allen give the player mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Our physio Dave Rennie and fitness coach Damien Doyle administered that.

So to suggest I ruthlessly sacked a manger hours after he saved a players life is nothing short of a disgrace. In no way am I attempting to downplay people's involvement including Martin's.

I am indebted to them for the swift action they took, they are and will remain heroes in my book.

It puts the game of football in perspective when something like this happens. Life is an invaluable commodity and we should all cherish that.

Needless to say the two incidents involving Clive and Martin are unrelated. As you may be aware we have had to sign a confidentiality agreement with Martin.

It pains me to say that it protects both parties but at the same time prevents any kind of transparency.

I am well aware that as a result of this, speculation about Martin's departure has been rife. We have received letters of support at the club and letters of criticism.

The truth is we may never be in a position to elaborate on the reasons we felt it would be in the best interest of the club if both parties went there separate ways.

Legal issues prevent me from talking any further which prompted the club to issue a swift but brief statement on Wednesday night.

My only regret is that I didn't act before Wednesday. I gave serious thought to taking the decision on Sunday and with the benefit of hindsight I wish I had.

The most important thing is this football club and it's supporters. Chairman, managers, players and staff will come and go but the club and it's following will always remain.

I have maintained throughout my brief tenure at the club that unity and trust must prevail. Everything becomes pointless without it.

I will not refrain from taking difficult decisions if I believe it's in the best interest of the football club.

And if I have to part company with 20 mangers to ensure I bring top-flight football back to the Walkers Stadium you can rest assure I'll do it.

I have asked for one thing from the supporters, trust. And in trying and difficult times I implore you to back my judgment move on and get right behind the team.

Without prevailing unity this club cannot function so it's imperative we stand together and work toward our goal of promotion this season.

I close by making it clear that the search to find a new manager is under way. But contrary to claims there is no short-list or stand out candidate about to be appointed.

Obviously the media will speculate and continue to do so. But when we are in a position to make any formal announcement the supporters will be the first to know.

Interesting reading. Implies something serious happened between Sunday & Wednesday. I still stick with my theory of MA being a nasty so & so who bullied people at the club.

"I can't say anything at all...

...but what I will casually slip in is this..."

You can only admire his utter brassneck. A great, great player of the media.

I think we just need to try and trust him now, what's done is done.

I think you're probably right.

My guess is something cracked off on Saturday. MM said he thought about sacking him on Sunday and nearly did it.

As he said we may never know!!!

I think it has something to do with MA going onto the pitch before the match,it looked like a gesture of defiance to me! :dunno:

I'm still siding with Allen, but I suppose this is what I and others have been asking for, I was saying until Manadric justifies his reasons I will stick on Allen's side but we would never know because of the legal agreements, so without going into detail he has answered and spoke to media like I was asking.

All i'm saying now though is Milan has made his job alot harder now though because people will expect more from him this season now, and if it doesn't happen this season people will be saying what if he had have kept Allen, Allen seemed to be doing a good job, got a great win (aswell as a loss and draw fair enough) and got us playing some good stuff, it's an question we will never get answered but Milan can easily be blamed should our season be a failure now.

Hopefully this can all be a case of "remember when Milan sacked Allen" instead of "Milan fooked our season up by sacking Allen" come May 2008

I'm afraid for me it does nothing it just murkies the picture even more, the implication is that Allen did something on Saturday that was so dastardly that no one dare speak of it.

I can think of no football action that would be considered so unmentionable so he's left me with the feeling that Allen must have carried out something virtually illegal.

I'm left bemused and confused.

How predictable was that for a damage limitation exercise?

And the only reason he's needed to write it is because the weight of criticism has shocked him.

I notice he doesn't indicate how many letters of support compared with the letters of criticism.

But it doesn't matter. It would make no difference to him.

He still talks of having 20 managers.

Instead of the right one from the start.

Most chairman at least give the impression that stability is important.

Mandaric assumes he'll be walking on people from the off.

He reminds me of the sort of people who headed an American-run business conference I attended in Birmingham.

Everyone was like those high-pressure timeshare salesmen you come across.

Blinkered, driven and totally uncaring in their single minded quest for success.

I've come across the American way first hand and I don't like it one bit.

Self, self, self...sue, sue, sue.

I'm sure that must have been the final nail in the coffin, I didn't see the 'Jesus' Allen incident on saturday but from what a friend told me MA acted liked a berk.

He Started De Vries.

In most Leicester fans eyes thats a criminal offence.

Well it got the fans going and did nothing but good for the performance and atmosphere on Saturday.

I feel the same i dont know what to think now, do I side with Milan or Martin :dunno:

I've been wanting him to come out with something. It's hardly the definitive explanation I'd have wanted, but then I would guess that the clause had something to do with that. It sounds like we'll never know what went on, and theres absolutely nothing we can do about it. So we just need to draw a line under this now and get on with supporting the lads. After all that's happened, they're going to need it.

The only thing predictable was your drone of a response.

He didnt say he wanted to go through 20 new managers but confirmed that he is focused on getting it right at all costs. One of the thing that I think is wrong with this club is our pitter patter softly softly approach down the years and here we have a ruthless but ambitious man in charge who wants us to get to the promised land whilst people like you prefer to go the other way. I know, lets get Beaglehole in, recall all the kids out on loan and slowly build to success without trying to upset anyone as we want to keep our integrity.

I think its time that supporters like you developed a backbone and put your handbag down before scratch someone with it. The decision has been made so dust yourself down and get on with it.

I just like the way this article clearly suggests that Milan sacked him but the OS has already said it was mutual consent...good work.

You are trite at times.

If you want to be critical fine but what the hell has Beaglehole and the youngsters got to do with this issue?

Even without your invented add ons.

It was as if to say...

"Oi Milan watch this and see the reaction that I get from the fans...They love ME...MORE than YOU!"

Hopefully this cant have been the ONLY reason, but we WILL NEVER know unfortunately.

But Thracian in response to your comments, you hammer MM cos he HAS sent a message to the fans,if he had kept quiet you'd have hammmered him too!!!

And you don't really expect him to literally count how many letters of support he has had in relation to how many letters of critisism???

Think he has a few other jobs to do before counting letters!!!
