I'm studying Astronautics and Space Engineering, but there are many aspects of it and general aerospace engineering that overlap.

Indeed I did know there would be stiff competition for the jobs in the relevant field, hence the applications to graduate jobs in many other fields. The space and aerospace engineering industry in the UK is actually one of the areas that's pretty recession proof right now so I figured that I'd at least have a decent shot, as well as the hope that just having a Masters degree (rather than a BSc that hasn't really gotten me anywhere thus far) would hopefully open doors for me in the general grad job field (it's a pretty 'solid' degree along with other types of engineering) if indeed the grad job market in this country was improving.

Seems I was wrong on both counts, and I've turned into a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none...can't get the aerospace jobs due to competition, can't get the other grad jobs due to lack of specialisation. Can't even get the school-leaver style jobs due to lack of experience. Like I said, I reckon I've applied for nearly a hundred jobs across a variety of fields and only got three interviews out of it. Surely the market isn't that saturated for someone qualified to Masters level?

Guess I misjudged the market back here after time away, and that may well lead to me heading back there again.

Same boat as you, now that I am resigned to not getting any jobs I am going to get work experience for 3 months and hopefully by the end of that period my CV will be attractive enough to get a job, I don't care if it £20,000 per year I want a f**king job!

That sucks. My first degree was largely a waste of time so I fairly recently did a conversion course into something more employable, which is working out well so far. Might you be able to convert to mech or electrical enhineering, where there is more jobs? Means more study of course but surely beats being on the dole.

That might be possible, but unless I can find a course that offers 'on the job' education it's going to cost dough I no longer have. I'm guessing there are such courses out there, though.

Yeah, I'm sure we're not the only grads, even at Masters level, in the same situation.

I took my daughter swimming earlier, first time I've taken her. It was fun, at 7 months old I was more worried she might do a chocolate log than anything else lol

You weren't that person on the Jeremy Vine show chucked out for breast feeding were you!

A bit surreal to put it mildly! Fiancée has always been told she is unable to have children, 3 different pregnancy tests later it looks like we may have got lucky! Had resigned myself to a life with no kids but nearly sh!t myself when she pulled the first 2 positive tests out to show me.

Good for you ! What a lovely story to post.

Interesting evening. Father in law and his much younger wife announced they are having a baby! My wife is 40 and our little man is 4 months. I'm in for a fun evening as they have just left!! Wish me luck.

Got back off holiday yesterday (where I lost my phone), ordered a new one at about 5pm with free delivery, and it turned up at 8am this morning! Ideal, got an iPhone 4, had a nokia my whole life so I'm in shock haha

Just spent the last 3 hours removing a virus from my computer, very irritating as i could have spent the time browsing foxestalk instead.

Just before the season started I put something away in the kitchen cupboard and when I brought my hand down, my fingers went inside my "Special Uncle" mug that I bought in Filey and knocked it off the counter causing it to smash on the floor. I went back to using my panoramic Walkers Stadium view mug, and we've been on an unbeaten run since.

I'm not sure that would have been less irritating

Kingfox mi ol buddy... There are services that exist for the carers of people with mental health problems.

They are based on the premise that carers themselves can burn-out due to stress etc.

Your GP SHOULD have knowledge of such services and be able to refer you to any of them if you feel you might need this. It's up to you of course, but it might be wise to have someone neutral to chat to.

I agree. Your doctor is the first step. He/she should have contact details for people that will help. If not I may be able to make discreet inquiries about organisations and groups that deal with this sort of thing on a daily basis. There is help out there. Some groups were set up by people in the same situation so they will understand the needs.

Had to call the housing office. after checking it turns out they counted my wages as weekly so reduced my benefits. Bloke checked and said oh yes itt says quite clearly that it is monthly. I knew what I was doing I'd hate to think what it is like for those with learning difficulties. And how will they cope when the UC comes in. It is supposed to be done on line and the ones who need help most will be the ones who do not have or are unable to use one.

I also mentioned that I got two letters in triplicate and he says oh yes we seem to do that a lot. More waste of money.

Met up with a few mates had a kick about in the park, nothing like a nice sunny day in the park! Been a good day until the lad next door keeps taking short cuts across my lawn, i've warned him politely in the past but he still does it. The family next door are right scum bags, if i catch that lad doing it again they'll see a different side of me. I'm not going to get violent or threaten him, just maybe that slight anger in my voice.
