its never been determind whether it was from the sutherland highlander team or from argyle terrace in plymouth where the club was formed.Come off it,the "foxes" could be some awful plastic american "sports franchise" name and dont give me crap about city not being boring as you were very close to changing it to Fosse or something a few years back and even lineker said it would give you an identity city didnt.

So, if we were called Leicester Fosse, you wouldn't be on here?

How daft do you look??? It actually says the history of your name on your own clubs website - that is where I got my information from - I was looking for your club honours but couldnt find any!!!

Some fans did want the name changing to Leicester Fosse are that was Leicester city origional name. It was decided to keep it as it is - so what? Does that make us more or less interesting??? No. I would be worried if I was you that the only thing you can think that makes your club seem interesting is its name, not what goes on on the pitch.

I like you, your arguements are completely pointless but still entertaining. Have you got anymore???

i have actually. If youre such a "big club",then why is this forum so much deader than our one?Theres no-one here,im the biggest contributor to it and i only found it 3 hours ago because someones hinting our manager would want to leave for your cr4p town and club.

I dont know - maybe our fans have jobs. If your forum is so great why are you on ours - oh sorry I forgot you are losing your manager to a bigger club :giggle:

Or are you trying to convince yourself that managers move to smaller clubs that pay more?? I suppose on that theory you could hope that Sir Alex will be your next manager!! Still in dreamland I see. I am going to bed, I'll be interested to read your reply in the morning - nothing wrong with starting the day with a smile on my face!!! :crylaugh::crylaugh:

To be fair, that's because you are spamming the forum with bollocks.

It's funny. There seems to be far less opposition to Holloway than there was when Levein left. Is that because he's suddenly become such a brilliant manager or because we're so damned desperate for someone to take us on.

Because back then he was with QPR who were playing awful football and in a thuggish manner which didn't appeal.

They were also festering around us in the league, hardly an inspiring choice for the battle against the drop.

Since then, he's gone to Plymouth and has done a decent job. They did reasonably well last year and look as if they might push on a little more this year. And if rumours are to be believed, they're not the awful, thuggish, anti-football side that QPR were deemed to be.

He's not become a brilliant manager, per se, but he's become less objectionable by leaving QPR and cleansing his record with a spell elsewhere. :)

the comments arent "childish",i was merely pointing out the truth that we have a far greater identity than you do and if i ever found myself supporting such a pointless, dull and middle of the road nothing club like leicester city,id probably have to blow my brains out, just an observation.

why are you even bothering to come on here looks like you've lost your manager :dunno:

How many fans on average do you get per home game???

About 11000 to our 22000(and that when we are playing pooly)

Twice the amount. We have never been outside the top 2 divisions, never while you have languished in those for most of your history.

As for slagging off the city of leicester, i thought this was a football forum??

Saying in the papers that Milans offered him a huge pay wise.

I hope he decides to stick with this one because all the money he would be spending to pay managers off could go on getting some quality players in.

nice!!!

i personally was in favour of that name change for that reason but there were exceptional circumstances as to why a name change was being suggested. it could have been appropriate given the club was basically reforming. it would not be appropriate now

got to say mate that plymouth is a lovely place. i have family down that neck off the woods and always look forward to a trip down to the barbican etc on a nice sunny day.

plymouth clearly has a pivotal role to play in the history of our nation for several reasosn as you know and this is something you should be proud of however.................................................,

leicester has its own traditions and history which go back as far as plymouth maybe even further. i'd suggest you read up on these and not just on wikipedia before jumping to conclusions about leicester and the kind of place it is and the links it has which are of massive national significance.

dont be fooled by the media

all the best

I will support Holloway should it eventually be him BUT......

I think its gonna be an Anti-Climax....

We all wanted and to a certain degree expected a top name coming in... Milan going for the likes of Tigana and Royle only fuelled the anticipation. Other names such as Pearce, Keegan, Souness were mentioned which again raised the hopes of us supporters. Even when the likes of Grayson were mentioned it was met with an air of hope and maybe nostaglia.... With Holloway we arnt getting any of that.

He isnt a top Name Manager and has no experiance of Promotion from the Championship, no experiance with top name Players and no experiance of managing a club with high expectations or a decent Transfer Kitty. He has been awsome at Plymouth doing a fantastic job on a limited budget and making them perform... Will he be the same with players that have played at a higher level than this and indeed himself?

I want Holloway now just to annoy this willy puller.

Also whats all this about souless midlands clubs :crylaugh: whos he talking about, Ex European Champions Aston Villa or Nottingham Forest prehaps, FA Cup winners Coventry City or Wolves? former top league Champions Derby County prehaps.

Plymouth, nothing club. This blokes arguement is based around them playing in green and having an odd name, if you think "Argyle" is an attractive name your wrong, it sound like something that grows in a fish tank.

Perhaps it was something to do with the fact that you were posting at 2:39am?

Just a thought like.

Just one thing to add to the discussion: attendances below 20,000 in the Premiership were actually a reflection of the blasé attitude we had towards being in the top tier of English football. There's no way you can compare that situation to one where a club who have been lower league their entire history get into the Premiership amid a flurry of excitement. We were frustrated at being spanked week in week out in that league after the most successful period in our history. If Plymouth City FC ever achieve enough to be complacent about their Premier League status in my lifetime (currently 23) then I will buy a hat made of pastry, strip naked and smear it all over my body on Plymouth Dockyard.

Obviously recent events would indicate that this would probably happen anyway if you invited me to Plymouth and gave me a bottle of whisky to drink.

If you've got a pastry fetish no reason it should stay subdued. Malt whisky is less likely to leave you with a headache. :D

The Jewry Wall

Leicester's Museum of Archaeology is placed in the wonderful setting of the remains of the Roman town's public baths. The Jewry Wall is one of Leicester's most famous landmarks. It is a rare example of Roman walling which has survived for nearly 2000 years. The Jewry Wall is the second largest piece of surviving Roman building in this country. Its two arched doorways formed the entrance to the Roman public bathhouse, the remains of which are laid out in front of the Wall.

The adjacent museum tells the story of Leicester from prehistory through to the end of the medieval period. The museum holds Leicestershire's archaeological collections ranging in date from 300,000 years ago to the end of the Middle Ages. The Roman collections are particularly exciting and include what experts describe as the finest Roman mosaic in this country and three very rare examples of magnificent Roman wall painting.

The Baths

The ruins between the Jewry Wall and the museum were excavated in the 1930s and preserved by the enlightened town council of the day for future generations to visit. Prior to the excavations it was thought that the Roman forum or marketplace was on this site. We now know that the forum is below St Nicholas' Circle. The remains of the Roman baths are from approximately 150 A.D.

PLYMOUTH IN THE MIDDLE AGES

Plymouth began as fishing village. It belonged to the Prior of Plymton. (A prior was the head of a priory or small abbey). In the early 13th century the prior turned the village into a town by starting a market there. In those days there were very few shops so if you wanted to buy or sell goods you had to go to a market. Once a market was up and running in Plymouth merchants and craftsmen would come to live and work there and it would grow into a town.

In 1254 Plymouth was given a charter. (A charter was a document granting the townspeople certain rights).

Holloway keen on Leicester talks

Holloway has been at Plymouth since June 2006

Plymouth boss Ian Holloway is keen to speak to Leicester City about their vacant manager's job, according to BBC Radio 5 Live.

Holloway is understood to be Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric's top target to take the reins following Gary Megson's departure for Bolton last month.

Megson left for the Premier League post after just six weeks in charge.

BBC Sport understands Holloway is interested in talks with Leicester but that he has not yet spoken to them.

Joe Royle, Graeme Souness and Peter Reid have been interviewed, but Mandaric has now turned to Holloway.

The 44-year-old became Plymouth manager in June 2006 after five years at QPR.

The Pilgrims have been in excellent form in the Championship and lie just outside the play-offs.

BBC Radio 5 Live correspondent Darren Fletcher said: "Ian Holloway would be Milan Mandaric's preferred choice providing Leicester have permission from Plymouth to speak to him and can settle a compensation package.

"Before the international break, he promised the Leicester fans he would have a new man in place by this Saturday's game at Bristol City.

"So if he's going to live up to that promise, he'll have to work fast."

Anyone else get a sneaking suspicion Holloway will snub Mandaric and make a hero's return to Plymouth? It's just all very murky at the moment. I wouldn't put that past Holloway. Wanting to talk to someone in his language possibly isn't the same as when Megson said it and we basically knew he was off.
