STUHILL Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Was very impressed last night, saw some real desire to win by the players and especially the manager. One of those nights where we just didn't get that bit of luck we needed. So apart from the 3 points, some real positive signs for the future. Bringing on Hayes, Chambers and King shows the manager has great confidence and at last isn't showing any fear. I think Holloway is a man that believes Attack is the best form of Defence, amen to that!!!! A good Christmas period, keeping us in touch with the top 6 and some smart signings in Jan and hey who knows, with the league being so tight, we may still have a shot at sneaking playoffs! Probably getting ahead of myself but hey these are exciting times, once again!!! Win against Southampton on Saturday and ppl will start to believe again.
Babylon Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Fryatt's ball control last night was dreadful. I lost count of the number of times we lost possession because he needed two touches and was invariably closed down by the Cardiff defence.Although he did find the target with the one real chance he had, I'd still have expected him to have scored from inside the six-yard box. Perhaps we should allow for the fact was playing twice in three days, but I've seen too many poor games from him in the last 18 months to be convinced that he'll ever be a part of a side that can challenge for the top six. Compared to most of the players last night fryatts touch was ok, it may have taken him two of them to control the ball, but at least he manged to. Which can't be said for bloody hume.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 If Fryatt didn't have a good first touch, he wouldn't be a professional footballer. His ball control may not have been spot on last night but he still took one or two long balls down with one touch in the first half and ran at defenders immediately... and at Bristol City his control and skill was breathtaking. You can slag him off for a lot of things but first touch and control... no chance.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I don't think there was much wrong with his first touch last night either. There were a couple of very nice lay offs and touches of skill, granted he gave the ball away a bit but so did most of the team for most of the night. May I also had on top of his touch and skill he normally hits the target when he shoots and at the age of 21 these are three very good attributes to work with.
morris1234 Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 yes hes not been here long but isnt it great to see passion over something like winning a throw in when he started dancing!! i just think this is what we need, somebody that can get the fans and players working. yes it wasnt the best performance in the first half but just to see the players and croud respond to him was more than enough! we all know we should of had the 3 points but it was just fantastic to hear from somebody that was outside the club and had a good set up (at plymouth) speak of the potential our club has! and well done to L1 you were a lot better than most parts of the KOP!!
Ultra Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Win against Southampton on Saturday and ppl will start to believe again. The game at Burnley next week will tell us more about the true quality of the squad. A win there, together with a decent performance. will show that a corner really has been turned.
Babylon Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I don't know if their defenders are really slow, but he seemed a yard quicker than usual in my eyes. I thought he played well.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I don't know if their defenders are really slow, but he seemed a yard quicker than usual in my eyes. I thought he played well. Loovens and Purse aren't the quickest but it's all relative, most Championship defenders aren't.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Not the greatest first half, though we were unlucky not to be ahead, but better second half and that's a very important ability to have in a manager - to see what needs changing, improving, and rallying the troops. Brave substitutions too. Much positivity to take from our new mananger.

Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Our fanbase is full of jeb-ends. I am slightly concearned about the number of people who now thing all is pink and rosey now after failing to beat 17th placed Cardiff at home, all based on 20 minutes of good football.

potter3 Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 If Fryatt didn't have a good first touch, he wouldn't be a professional footballer. Elvis Hammond Although Fryatt has got a good first touch, as he showed at Bristol.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 ....and the Bristol City performance, Manwell. Ok but still, two games, good start but as always our fans are too quick to react.

Not I, I was saying yesterday I'm quite gutted really. We had little invention 'til a 17 year old who can barely get a game came on and looked little better than average. We showed little goal threat, no strength up front, long periods of barely stringing passes together and missed out on a FANTASTIC opportunity to go into Ollie's first full week in charge in the top half of the table.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Elvis Hammond Although Fryatt has got a good first touch, as he showed at Bristol. I knew someone would pick me up on that. What I meant was that Fryatt is a footballer because of his touch and skill - he has no pace or strength or height to fall back on. i.e. if Elvis wasn't quick he wouldn't be a professional footballer.

That reflects the players' ability quite accurately. A new manager won't be able to get them passing and shooting like Barcelona but he can instil some optimism. Not everything is "pink and rosy" but it's better than the crowd booing every mistake.
Bert Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I've just seen Schmiechel's save from Stearman on the news. Absolutly amazing.

Agree although I thoroughly enjoyed the last 20 minutes if that game had finished on 70 it would have been no better than many others we'd seen this year with Cardiff being the dominate team for long periods. Not that I couldn't see some green shoots poking through the mediocrity, there was a change of emphasis but it just wasn't working, that's not a complaint just an observation because after 4 years of shit unadventurous static football ingrained through out the club it's going to take more than 90 minutes to eradicate it. If we can make the next game 30 minutes and then continue to build on that come Christmas we might have the pleasure of seeing 90 minutes of controlled entertaining, fluid yet fast attacking football match. I live in hope!

Totally, booing is stupid. But talk of play offs, talk of Holloway being the man to get us promoted, how wins at Southampton or even Bunrley will show we've "turned a corner" are even more stupid. You'd of think we'd of learnt after the Kelly fiasco but obviously not.
Finnegan Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 You don't need to be Ronaldinho to have confidence, move into space, receive a pass and play it on. You just need to get the ball down and play the simple game. I was watching Bournemouth play Hartlepool the other day on Sky and, while Danny Wilson's lot looked woeful hoof-ball no hopers, Bournemouth got the ball down and whipped it around nicely. It's just about the way you're coached and directed. Hume, Fryatt, Jimbo, Clem, King, they're all capable of passing the ball nicely they just need it beaten into them, and I hope Ollie'll do that. There's a fantastic Paisley quote Ollie comes out with in the program notes, something about it's not about playing the short ball or the long ball, but the right ball. Brilliant. Let's see the football we're playing after a few weeks of the new regime and then get critical. I'm not happy, things aren't rosey red, but there's positive signs.

We havent had much of a chance to take a glimpse upwards for the past few years!!! The optimists amoung us will believe anything is possible...... so come on......take a break from looking down that deep hole of despair join the roller coaster ride its all fun and sunshine from now on

I know what you're saying but the performance we put in yesterday was by far superior to any of the other games we haven't scored in, in recent times. Cardiff have also underperformed this season, they missed Darren Purse and it's taken them and him a while to get it back together but they will be one of the improved sides in the new year and may well be challenging us for a play-off place.
