Master Fox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Cardiff shaded the midfield, and Whittingham was dangerous when he came on.We were too negative in the first half. Megson's habits will take time to dispel. But Holloway made some decent substitutions (it's been a while since I could say that about ANY City manager), and with a centre-forward of any quality, we would have clinched the points. Let's hope Cort or Campbell will be fit for Saturday. What did you think of the quality of the balls that were put into the box? Personally I haven't seen balss as good as the balls were tonight for ages!

Thought we just about shaded the game, although we did leave it rather late to get going! Little disappointed in Weso and Clem (not in terms of his effort, but in terms of quality), Newton was as expected (hot and cold) but everyone else I think did pretty well. Shocking ref, fairly decent atmosphere and on another day we would have walked away with three points. Holloway's already making his mark and he's only been here five days. Roll on Saturday. OLLIE'S BLUE AND WHITE ARMY!
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Sooooo frustrating. Second half was smashing, but it says something if we can't put it away from all of those opportunities.
Raj Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I thought, for a 0-0er it was a pretty decent game. a game which on another day we would have won. Dont know how Stearmans 1st half chance didnt go in? And even in the 2nd half we created a few good chances. We even looked decent from corners for a change. Thought Fryatt and Hume looked sharp but just lacked that killer instinct. Dont really wanna slag anyone off,as i thought they did a decent job,but we just need that extra 10-20% to propel us to a higher level of performances. sometimes some of the lads look abit lost and hence resort to hoof ball. Im sure Olli will look into it. P..S....Ello Berty!!!
dandannieldanok Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Shoot me down for being negative but I thought the first 60 minutes were similar to England Vs. Croatia without the goals. Cardiff looked more comfortable on the ball but with no end product. Fair play to the lads though, storming last 20 minutes, so unlucky not to get a winner.

The team played markedly better as the game progressed and the penny dropped that Holloway wants more movement with the ball passed better. Old habits kept surfacing in the first half as seemingly aimless balls were punted forwards to static strikers. The youngsters played and moved without fear and were inspired substitutions and important elements to the change that occured. If City had been able to make the ball stick better when played to a front man then surely they would have won. I'm really optimistic about things now, especially given that Holloway can now get the players on the training ground and as the all important confidence starts to return. Let the show begin!!
gosfox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I thought the first touches were pretty poor for a lot of the game but maybe that had something to do with the wet pitch.... but all in all a very encouraging performance. The kids showed the way forward for me.... I just hope Olli is allowed to develop them and is not forced to buy ageing ex prem players in a desperate attempt to reach the Premiership
Ric Flair Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I must have watched a different game to some last night, I thought Stearman was arguably our best player in the first half. Looked more composed on the ball, wasn't helped at all by McAuley's inept passing and I thought the hoofing from Stearz was kept down to a minimum. I'll hold my hands up when he's crap, but last night was one of his best performances for quite some time that i've seen. Showing the promise that he undoubtably has, whatever some may say.

Cardiff were reducing to crumbs for chances and it takes collective organisation to do that and, once more Stearman played his part. Some of his early interceptions and clearances were vital and he was always there in support as defender or attacker.
RowlattsFox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Clemence and Wesolowski doesnt work at home in my opinion, they are brilliant away from home but we dont create enough from open play and last night was no different. I wonder what a fit and motivated gareth Williams would be like in this team?? I think we missed Campbell last night, there was a few times when the ball was bobbling around the 6-yard box and if Campbell had played i think we would have scored. Hayes was dangerous because he occupied the right back, he kept his width, i would like to see more of him. Kisnorbo often gets abuse for his passing but he did one superb pass last night over the full back which Hayes controlled and then seemed to fall over or was fouled. Also did anyone see Ollie's little dance when we got a decision of the ref in second half

So long as he's fit you'll get a season of thoughtful football from King instead of just the odd few matches.

So long as he's fit you'll get a season of thoughtful football from King instead of just the odd few matches. Williams is a much more developed passer of the ball than Andy King, and a much better footballer, when he was Kings age he was tearing this division up. Unfortuantley he has since decided that he can't be ****ed and he's always injured. Taking that into consideration I'd rather have Andy King.

purpleronnie Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 First half was poor, much better in the 2nd. Great defensive record just need someone to start putting the chances away.

His passing is great, I told you that last December if you remember correctly. Gareth Williams however can pass the ball sublimley, he just never does and probabley never will again with the injuries he's had. While we was at Forest he was consider the best passer of the ball at the club and this is while Jenas Prutton etc were all there.

It was just that I never watched him in those days and it was so rare to see it at City.
MPH Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Never thought i would say this..... But we needed Cort in those last few minutes with all thsoe corners..
SamL Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Never thought i would say this..... But we needed Cort in those last few minutes with all thsoe corners.. I can see your point there but still, we have a fairly tall team. Yes Cort would offer us height, but not much else. Fryatts ball control is very good and he is probably our best finisher. Hume offers us hard work, fairly good set pieces and is a fairly good finisher. Chambers has got a hell of a jump on him, he won quite a bit in the air last night but doesn't seem that tall. We need to attack crosses and set pieces more instead of waiting for the ball to come to us.

John would take fryatts place as the natural finisher. Cort would of been good to come on from the bench for the last 15 or so minutes was what i was aiming for!

We all have our favourate and our least favourate players but my word some people are blinkered. Stearman had a pretty good game last night and was beginning to show something approaching what he really has to offer.

Strange match last night,I recorded it and watched the 2nd half when I got in,thought we looked better on the telly than we did at the Walker's...well wierd!

Fryatt's ball control is very good and he is probably our best finisher. Fryatt's ball control last night was dreadful. I lost count of the number of times we lost possession because he needed two touches and was invariably closed down by the Cardiff defence. Although he did find the target with the one real chance he had, I'd still have expected him to have scored from inside the six-yard box. Perhaps we should allow for the fact was playing twice in three days, but I've seen too many poor games from him in the last 18 months to be convinced that he'll ever be a part of a side that can challenge for the top six.

Manager Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 We were coming off a period of playing with a lack of confidence, fear, and unstable playing system(s) and it took the players a while to develop enough confidence to begin to believe. The introduction of 3 younger playes upset the rhythm midway through the second half (for a while) and then the greater hunger and belief that these players showed infected the whole team - as well as their undoubted ability. The last 20 mins showed what Holloway is trying to do - well done all around. . . and Sheehan should have gotten MOM (but I suppose the quality of his crosses ensured that Scheimcal was busy enough to be awarded - does that sound like Tracian logic??

So, if he's never really had the chance to show it? How do you know? First team level is a big step up from the Academy. He does look the part though, to be fair.
