Is Holloway doing a Kelly?

Since when has having people agree with you been a criteria for what should be aired in a fans forum?

Not once have I stated that you shouldn't post just because I and many others do not agree with you. I was just asking whether anyone had agreed with you in this thread on this topic.

The answer appears to be no but in fairness Ultra hasn't been on line yet today.

This forum would not be half as interesting if you didn't post.

Anyone listened to Ollie's interview on World today?

Certainly doesn't sound like Kelly on that - very positive from the fans point of view, maybe not so some of the players.

Thats got to be the best sig on this site lol:crylaugh:

As for IH, he is the type of character that I think will grow on the players. I can remember seeing some show at Plymouth where they followed him around and videoed the bloke and everyone at the club seemed to love him and when they went into town all the locals loved the bloke too.

I think in time, with a bit of cash to spend he can actually make some decent signings as he did at Plymouth. He bought some Hungarian lads like Halmosi (which may tempt big Marton to stay if we bring him here maybe?) so he knows a bit about the European market (something that MA has proven to know sod all about looking at the signings) and he has done OK with limited resources.

Lets back him and lets see if he can take us forward. I think he might well be.

That's very kind of you - and I did expect more of Ultra. :D

Been offline and then at work today so only just caught this thread,

The question is a valid one to ask based of what we've seen so far under the latest regime - a flying start followed by three negative results.

Ollie could make the point that injuries haven't helped him, but previous managers (including Kelly) have tried to hide behind that excuse and (quite rightly) not been allowed to do so.

I saw an interview on the BBC website today where the manager seemed very gung-ho and called upon us to give the team our full support on Saturday. I trust that, in return, he will pay us the courtesy of fielding a team of eleven fit players who will all be fired up and determined to BEAT the baggies, not just play for the draw.

If Cov can put four past the baggies than why can't we?

Have any of you listened to Ollie's interview on the BBC website.

Go and listen to it and I think he answers all the questions being asked here. He's assuring us fans that he'll bring quality players in in the January transfer window.

And he'll go back for all the players he signed at Plymouth and bring 'em here lol

He isn't too happy about what his chairman said during and the aftermath of his depature from Plymouth so he threatened him with taking all his players and bring them here.

You don't have to convince me what a great character he is. I could listen to him like I could listen to Martin Allen when it comes to entertainment...though we all know what happened to Allen.

But before we even get to January's transfer window there's the little matter of the seven games (including January 1) we have to play beforehand.

We need a steady flow of points from those but our failings against Southampton and that nine-defenders-day against Burnley were hardly confidence-boosters.

Holloway might well get all the new players he wants come January and on the other hand he might not. Last summer showed me that all the assurances, the competitive wages on offer and all the rumours you could muster didn't put signatures on contracts, at least not many that were headlined "Quality Footballer".

And if our team goes into freefall over the next seven matches - which it probably will if we try that nine defenders caper again - then Holloway might find that he hasn't got nearly as many footballing friends as he thinks when signings time comes.

Nor, come January, is it as simple as Holloway saying he'll bring quality signings. What we want is quality people who will make things happen in an attacking sense and will rectify our glaring weaknesses.

Fit, fast, clever, in-you-face footballers who can control a ball, pass a ball and do things that ensure we score some goals. People with character. People who lead.

Summer was a piss take. We acted more like autograph hunters than football connoisseurs when it came to selecting personnel.

We were like a blind man buying cheaply plated trinkets in the belief we were getting 24ct pure gold. I'd hope we know better now.

But I'm done with optimism. City are like itinerant landscape gardeners with false promises and grand assurances.

Holloway doesn't have to perform miracles. He calls himself a trier and all he has to do is try his best to win every game, home and away, for each one of the 90 minutes and stoppage time.

He won't do that with nine defenders in his line-up and we should know that by now considering our results/performances these last four years.

The basis of our problems is this. We have no serious personnel for some positions. And, while we defend as a team we don't habitually attack as a team and THAT is the difference between good sides and makeweights.

If Manchester United, with the players they've got, need to put between 8 and 10 players in the attacking half to score goals and 8-10 players in the defensive half to prevent goals then I'm damn sure we do.

The more Holloway succeeds in changing those problems the more successful he's likely to be.

Kelly was a nice man.

A very drab uninspiring BUt nice man.

Holloway is a nice man too.

But he has a personality.

I fell asleep listening to Kelly.

My head hurts.

Sacked for Non Footballing Reasons.... he was a bully....

Burnley isnt a great place to go and play especially for City.. We got a point out of it, in our current situation I would say thats a plus!!

Allen and Ollie are different Managers, I have no doubt that we will see the squad improve in January.. Allen with Milans cheque book was like a twat with a shotgun!!

Fit, fast, clever, in-you-face footballers who can control a ball, pass a ball and do things that ensure we score some goals.

As apposed to Fat, slow, stupid recluse footballers who dont know what a football is.... Yeah I'd agree with that

One thing has become clear about Ollie during his time with us - he has his "chosen men", just like Kelly and Levein did.
