Wolves 1-1 post match

Good first half, average second half, we were just made to look poor by a fired-up Wolves side.

Kisnorbo looked solid all along apart from the goal - what was he doing?

Everybody else was average I guess, nothing bad but nothing special. Stearman impressed me, considering the slating he's had the past few weeks I was happy.

Good point.

Agreed.

Bearing in mind how low he must have felt about his own recent performances, he and Ollie have done well to get that showing from him tonight.

Today's game, and the first half in particular proved two things. That our players aren't all so shit they can't survive in this division and just what a good right back Stearman CAN be.

It was also nice to see us playing a system that suited our the players we had rather than the ones we perhaps wish we had.

quite, so why bollock them?

they did the best they could! they did the same against Chelsea and nowt was said so why today?

We know we need to improve we are 22nd thats why we are all looking to jan to make the improvements.

so yes i'm serious

I'm just saying that I can't see them "improving" with this personnel at Holloway's disposal. I'm not bollocking them, I'm just saying that our team is poor and we are where we are because we deserve to be :dunno:

It's still looking VERY dire. 23rd in the table.

1-0 up front and that AWAY. Still, it's the same old, same old. Once we're leading, we're giving the advantage away oh so often.

We don't have the quality to control a game and I guess we could've easily lost this one by a larger margin.

Sure, it's a point. But this season will be bloody TOUGH if we want to remain in the Championship.

Wednesday against the mighty Ipswich it is then.

I wonder how many other sides have gone to Wolves and given them a first half going over? The game could have been virtually over before McCarthy made his adjustments had John been more incisive.

Just though i'd add Wolves' wall and defence for our goal was shocking.

When Hume was lining up to take it I knew it would go in.

Not due to looking at their wall or defence but I just had a feeling it'd go in aswell.

EDIT:

But it was all due to Hume changing his boots according to Sky  that's all they kept going on about!

We weren't THAT good. We had 2 or 3 chances in the whole first half, and that's including Hume's goal. We just contained them and left the attacking to Fryatt, Hume and John. A good defense makes any opposing team in this division devoid of creativity (like Wolves) look ordinary.

We could and should have killed it off in the second half, though, I'll give you that.

I'd say the defense always needs time to gather and gel during a game, no matter how "big" those names are in the back four.

Or, differently articulated:

The risk of conceiving a goal is always higher in the beginning and/or dying stages of either half (time).

My villain is Fryatt, at least john got into the positions. Fryatt is one lazy git, out of the whole team he very rarely pressed the defenders when they had the ball. He just ran away from them so that john or hume were nearer and they had to close down.

Agree 100%. Although I thought John lack of real sharpness cost him a brace we could have done with.

It was a good away point, which we need to follow up with a win in at least one of the forthcoming home games.

Wolves were as dire in the first half as we were last week, except they had quality to bring on from the bench. After the way Keogh ripped us to shreds last season I was surprised McCarthy didn't start with him. He certainly turned the game for them when he finally came on.

Yes, Collins John should have scored one, perhaps two. But poor finishing has been a feature of our season right from the opening day. Holloway knows this and will bring in a proven finisher next month.

The spirit and commitment throughout the team was far better than what we've seen in recent weeks, but once again the midfield proved unable to keep the ball often enough. Clemence made important interventions in assisting what was often a SIX-man defence. However he created very little in the opposing half.

The team is still not firing on all cylinders, but showed enough during the game to suggest that if we can battle through the rest of the holiday fixtures, we may be able to pull away from the drop zone when the reinforcements arrive.

I guess you have to consider it in the context of our recent performances as well as all the stuff going on off the pitch.

With this in mind I find this result very encouraging especially going into a very busy period where we have to pick up more points.

Aye I was almost certain it was going in, I pictured it in my head as he was lining up and it happened almost exactly like I thought it would.

Two home games which we should win:

a) in order to get out of the relegation zone

b) because - at least by the looks of it - player motivation's back (to a certain extent)

c) we need to break the home jinx

d) the home supporters are in dire need of something to cheer about

Only downside to it:

We're playing

a) Ipswich (6th in the table)

b) Charlton (5th in the table)

Oh lord.

You might be right. Being abroad, I only get to see the games that are shown on Sky.

After witnessing the debarcle at Hull and the recent poor performances at home today was a big improvement.

It reminded me of Bristol City in a way the difference being then we got the 2nd whereas this evening, we didn't. And probably should have through John.

When they brought Keogh and to a lesser extent Eastwood on it changed the game and they actually looked a top 6 side and if I'm honest once they equalised I was always concerned they'd go on to win. Credit to the lads though they dug in and I still firmly believe we'll have no problems staying up.

Special mention to Stearman it was the best I've seen him in a long time.

I said this morning the only way we would win would be if we started Jarvis, Keogh and eastwood (which would have been unlikely). If we didnt then the i could only see a bore draw or a 1-0 Leicester win.

I was proved right. It was a poor game lacking any flair from either side. We looked alot better once Eastwood and Keogh came on but over the 90 mins i dont think we deserved anything from the game.

We have had a £3.5m bid for Joe Ledley turned down but are looking to sign Ashley Williams from Stockport. We need more than a few new players if we want to get promoted. A change in style from our stuborn manager is the only way we will have a chance this season.

I can't help coming home from the game absolutely gutted that we didn't take all three points. I went to the game expecting nothing but the Hume goal seemed to change the mind of a couple of people.

As soon as Keogh came on you could see the threat he caused with his pace. Whenever he got up one on one against McAuley I was worried because there was only ever going to be one winner, sure enough that was the avenue where the goal came on.

If John had scored just after they had there goal disallowed we'd of won the game without a doubt. Although Wolves had a lot of pressure they seemed to struggle with the final ball.

I'd like to see Hayes start a couple more games from now on, his pace and willingness to go and have a run at wing backs is something that we lacked throughout the match.

Stearman put in a much more solid performance today, better passing and looked a lot more committed which was good to see after his recent performances.

12 days of Ormondroyd also came out on quite a few occasions.

I think if you'd have started with Eastwood and Keogh you would've pissed all over us because our defence cannot deal with pace or playing on the deck those to offered both. Managers really are difficult to understand sometimes.

Ian Holloway was full of praise for his side following their 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.

The Foxes had gone into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Hull City last weekend - a result and performance that had clearly irked the Leicester boss.

But speaking after the televised clash, Holloway said he was a much happier man after watching his side give as good as they got against Mick McCarthy's men.

He said: "I am very proud of the performance that my boys gave me during the first half. We had so much enthusiasm. They were chasing and running and it almost looked as they were wearing Wolves shirts - because in fairness to Mick that is what he has got them doing here.

"We needed a second goal, but we didn't get it. But after they scored I did not see us fold. Our heads didn't drop.

"Sometimes you can be nice to people and sometimes you have got to tell them the truth. I certainly got a reaction from my players today.

"But in the end I thought that a draw was a fair result on the balance of play from both halves."

Iain Hume gave the Foxes the lead in just the fourth minute in spectacular fashion when he whipped a 25-yard free kick past Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal.

He added: "Humey's strike was something a bit special and he has been popping up with goals for me.

"But we are still bottom of the table when it comes to goals scored in this division. I know what we need to do in the transfer window - I need some wide men who can cross it and some centre forwards who can score. That will help out everyone else. It is so simple it is a joke.

"We have got a long way to climb but it is still onwards and upwards for me."

What was the atmosphere like Ched?

As good as you could of expected really. There was a section of about 50 of us standing closet to their South Bank. I moved seats after 5 minutes after some bloke behind me kept telling me to sit down. Fair enough if he doesn't want to stand but I wasn't going to let it ruin my day.

Quite a few of the old chants got started but never moved down to the rest of our fans who sat and did nothing all the match.

3 blokes got thrown out for been drunk which was a complete joke. The police had it in for them from the start. Really pisses me off that it took about 8 policemen to remove 3 blokes.

That would help us get out of this mess, yes. But we also desperately need some midfielders and a little flair wouldn't go amiss either, if we want to match Mandaric's ambition...
